      I have been sober 6 years, and been off my psychiatric medications for over a year. It can take your brain around two years to level out from addiction. Also, addressing my chaotic past by doing several free 12 step programs (A.A.,ACA, and EA), has truly helped me find inner peace and freedom for my past, and I actually love myself now! I spent 5 of those years Sober, working NO program, and was miserable and my mental health was the worse it had ever been! It only took 6 months in 12 step programs for my life to start changing! It’s been 1.5 years, and I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for who I have become!
      Recovery is possible, and We do have a Choice!
      Acceptance ❤

    I have been off all my psychiatric medication’s for over a year, on top of being clean from alcohol for over 6 years. I had to face my past, and learn how to process it, manage my emotions, use coping skills, build a strong support system with diverse 12 step programs, and build a connection to myself and The Universe in order to improve my mental health. Also came from growing up in dysfunctional abusive environment, therefore I had to face that and learn about the dysfunction, and overcome my trauma!
    Mental illness is a sign that something is going on unaddressed within ourselves! Face that, process that, learn from it, accept it, and let it go! Healing is a Choice, and reprogramming the brain is possible! ❤

      I think this is a dangerous recommendation that assumes all depressive conditions are mild and lingering. If someone's in a deeper crisis that's built up relatively quickly and they're not used to dealing with it, or even if it's just rapidly got worse due to some trigger after being mere dysthymia for years, you do not want to mess around trying to exclude things that could be solved over the course of a month with vitamin supplements, without immediately guarding them against the possibility of greater danger of causing harm to themselves.
      That doesn't however mean you don't monitor their response and maybe check for other causes if there's no improvement, or use it as an excuse to not refer them for therapy as well, etc. Just throwing a script at them and packing them out of the door and out of your hair is just as bad.

    Thanks for this - all great advice. I write down 20 things to be grateful for every night before I go to bed. Often I'm repeating many of the same things each night, but it doesn't matter. Takes a while to change your mindset and I'm not immune to down days, but it's made a big difference to my mood in general.

    Actually as I'm a self motivator when I isolate myself I'm at my best. When I'm depressed I isolate myself and I watch myself. I will pray and try to meditate then all the miracles happen. I start to realise many things, the reason behind things etc. But before I have become like this I have gone through hell. The practice and discipline etc are important but faith is the magic. With the magic comes gratitude, uplift of frequency and everything changes.

      This is from Dr. Amen's book titled (Magnificent mind at any age).
      "Once people believe that they are defeated, that they cannot do things to change their situation, they stop trying and give up, never to try again. Even if success or happiness is within their grasp, they are unable to reach out and grab it. If you have lost your voice, know that it is possible to find it."
      I have read and reread many passages in this book. Dr. Amen has many books to his credit. Since I could never afford therapy, books and videos such as this are an alternative for me.
      He is a clinical neuroscientist, psychiatrist, brain-imaging expert.
      When every day you have to make a choice between throwing in the towel
      or fighting like hell to keep trying instead of giving up, you need to find whatever works for that goal.

    • @backwardsbandit8094
      @backwardsbandit8094 23 дня назад

      The reason it works for some people is because they have a shortage of serotonin. Not everyone who's depressed has a shortage of serotonin however, so what it does is deplete their sense of motivation, because serotonin is the hormone that is responsible for being content. If you're content with things around you, you'll have no desire to do anything, which can lead to people feeling flat and demotivated.
      Antidepressants making you "lose your mind" are almost entirely because the patient isn't taking it as prescribed though lol. If you don't take it at the same time every day in the morning or night, exactly as instructed, you will have a shit time. Don't take antidepressants if you struggle to stay on top of it.

      i had one summer where I was super sick depression and anxiety at teh same time, being grateful had nothing to do with it, it was a physical problem, depression is a symptom not a cause and it is not because you think wrongly. when you did not do that beforehand. a friend of mine commited suicide he suffered severe depression and it was not because he was ungrateful, he was sick. you cannot think yourself out of depression you have to change your diet and exercise routine I was miserable that summer but over time it seem to gradually lift adn I did nothing, it did it on its own.

    When I started having severe panic attacks and became extremely depressed, I was never really checked out by any of the doctors I went to. They just handed my antidepressant after antidepressant, I literally got prescribed 5 different meds. I only ever tried one of them (low dose of sertraline), which made me suddenly suicidal and hallucinating after just two days. It took 9 months of highly debilitating 24/7 anxiety and panic for anyone to bother to run some basic tests to figure out if it could be a medical condition. I just got the standard labs every time I ended up in the ER, which were all good enough. Turns out, my hormones are all wonky and I am getting a diagnosis for a genetic disorder that affects my adrenal glands.
    Through all of this, I have come face to face with how isolated I am, and can 100000% confirm that isolation will make your depression SO MUCH WORSE. If you have ANYBODY, reach out and nourish that relationship like both of your lives depend on it.

    lol the more i listened the more i had to wonder "have YOU ever been depressed doc?" He's so cavalier saying "dont' do this, don't do that", but it's like saying "don't let depression inform your decision making, even though you're making decisions specifically to escape the depression." It's like a catch-22. Way more useful to look into emotional repression and work on the trauma causing the depression in the first place

    • @AmenClinic

      Thank you for the comment. 😊
      It is not uncommon for depression to be misdiagnosed for other mood disorder, such as bipolar disorder, or for other conditions like ADD/ADHD or even dementia. Getting the wrong diagnosis and the wrong treatment can make your symptoms worse and keep you in a downward spiral. Our brain imaging work allows us to distinguish depression from other conditions and to identify any co-existing issues that also need to be treated. Brain imaging has taught us that depression is not a single or simple disorder, and that giving everyone who’s depressed the same medication will never work. Based on your brain scans, we can better determine how you will respond to treatment so you can feel better faster.
      You can read more about Choosing Amen Clinics here: www.amenclinics.com/conditions/depression/

    • @tahrey
      @tahrey 3 месяца назад +1

      @@AmenClinicsounds good but i bet that's pricey, hence why basically nowhere does that kind of scanning, even though I'd much appreciate having it done just to see what's what.
      It's not like depression stands alone from all those other things though, it's often a fellow passenger and caused by non/denied recognition or non/mistreatment of them and the depressing effects they have on your life. And the treatments for them are kind of slow and long term if not lifelong. So you may need a bit of a chemical sticking plaster in the moment. And if people can't get the medical grade stuff they need to get by, then they are, one way or another, going to find as good an alternative as they can informally... Legal stimulants (caffiene, nicotine etc), alcohol, cannabis where legal, a whole load of illegal substances, gambling, or other quick dopamine fixes, etc.

      Yes, I could not keep from scoffing, and asking the same things. It was like a satire, of the most deluded neurotypical, in existence, who is completely unaware how fragile his little self-assured illusion is. Depression differs, in severity. I'd be interested in how he presumes he'll enact this approach, once his brain stops performing his executive functions, correctly? 😂 This guy's got jokes. 🙄 Honestly, thinking people with severe or comorbid severe MDD aren't aware that those are better choices? Next, I feel like he's going to tell me that exercise will help, when I'm physically paralyzed, in the bed, catatonic and disassociated, literally UNABLE to reach for my water, that's on my nightstand, less than one foot away. "Once you get up," 😂😂😂 cute, but that doesn't even happen, during my depressive episodes. This poor guy wouldn't last, one day, with my depression. If his brain went on the offensive, he would snap like a toothpick, and probably never make it back. And mushrooms are great, for med resistant depression. They help reset pathways for developing new neuroplasticity, although I may not be exactly explaining the process, word for word, but it's close.

    Top tier advice. With the going back to bed it’s like you get opportunities for active decision when you’re depressed but you might get used to a pattern of the norm and so let it pass and then feel crap about it and then try to make 10 or even 100 decisions in thought and about feelings.
    I would say depression is introverted because if it’s just about others for example then you would be frustrated at others alone, the longer circumstances go on for the easier it is to internalise it and some people internalise more as a part of their way straight off the bat.

These are great advice if your depression is minor or you are coming out of a really bad place but many of us don’t have the luxury of feeling well enough to even shower, let alone go out and be around people, eat healthy cuz sometimes bad food is better than no food. And ironically research is showing that shrooms, just like ketamine, can reduce depression in those of us with treatment resistant depression

  • @My_thoughts_20
    @My_thoughts_20 Месяц назад

    It’s challenging not to get isolated as the behavior/ sadness will impact people around. Perhaps it would be recommended to say to the person „hey I want to see you but just so you know I’m sad or lacking excitement and hope it won’t impact your mood”. Any thoughts? I think it’s one of the reasons for isolations, so others don’t have to watch the person in that state.

      One thing that has really helped me recently is just surrendering to the depression like this therapist, advises and accepting that I have a problem and that doesn’t make me a bad person or any less human being.
      I now understand that I cannot control my emotions and that committing to getting a daily morning walk regardless of what time I wake up at, understanding that even though I may not feel like being social that spending time with human beings in person is making me feel better and lastly getting sleep seem to help with the depression triggers
      I think the hardest part about the depression is the lies that your thoughts tell you and the constant feeling of exhaustion and harmful thoughts which make life unbearable

    Something terrible happened to me, at the end of 2017 I was in a nightlife I had left my joint on the table and was gone for a while, after I came back I lit one up what happened next was indescribable some one changed my joint I felt something coming to my head and I felt a electric shock that caused my breathing to increase and my vision to blur and I had to walk compulsively, I lost all control. To this day we don't know what or who it was. It remained restless for weeks, months, years. I suddenly had severe anxiety, I couldn't sleep, I had to move, and I had breathing problems, namely a slowdown, I also suffer from tremors, vibrations and tingling. I also experience the world differently. These symptoms are different somewhere. to be linked to a substance? I am extremely tired and I notice that my electrical activity is not going well despite an EEG scan that looks normal.
    Do you perhaps have an idea what could cause this and what research can reveal more about the function of the brain, since an MRI only shows
    small non-specific white matter lesion right
    And an eeg shows allso nothing could HBOT help to restore the brain function like mitchondrieen, neurotransmission because i am really suffering
