    Vibration is always an issue especially on high reving racing engines. I admire the way Shane didn't pretend he already knew that the part was worn when he spotted it ! . It's a clear sign that the guy isn't full of shit. Shane is giving out information that would take a mechanic years of experience to learn

      Thanks Shane for the fast resonse. Have you ever tested or had experience with CV carburetor modification kits like the CV performance tuners kit or Dynojet kits? I am trying to get better throttle response from my 40mm CV and don't want to swap it for a Mikuni 42 if I can avoid it. I have concerns about drilling the slide and going to a lighter spring.

    • @How2Wrench
      @How2Wrench  8 лет назад

      Love Dynojet and other too....BUT the 42 MIKUNI is AWESOME...I have a 42 but need a 45 on my chopper...107 CU IN

    • @jordantserghanos2604
      @jordantserghanos2604 8 лет назад

      Thanks again Shane for the response. I haven't had any luck with the standard dynojet kit. I had the slide drilled as instructed in the kit but the slide became irratic. I have since done back to stock parts.
      I am strongly considering the Mikuni HSR 42 because I have heard good things about it like tuneability and throttle response. My 40 mm CV is working ok a tad rich but ok. In your opinion is the Mikuni worth the money and effort? I have a chance to get a new one at a good price. I am on the fence

    Right on. I have been adjusting the carb so much trying to get everything right. I was adjusting the throttle needle and it helped but was still bogging out in the mid range. Good bottom end and top end but if I'm just cruising it's got a nice sputter to it and it has been fouling plugs too. Time to take a look at the float. Thank your for your brain and sharing it with me.

    The tip your referring to, is it made of Viton? I fly Bing 54 carbs on 2-cycle ultralight aircraft. We refer to these as Viton tips. Is Viton less susceptible to gas & oil exposure & vibration? Thank you for a great presentation! Well done!

      Needle valve would not stop the gas entering the float bowl. It would fill up your carb and either flow out the overflow or (more likely) flow up the main jet assembly into intake and then into your engine. ( If you have gas in engine don't run it until you change your oil ) Happened to me. Posted up there ^ somewhere.

    Again, an absolutely amazing video and I appreciate the information! I have a question that maybe you can answer. I'm working on a Bayou 250. Mikuni carb. It's running very rich at mid / high rpm. Why would someone of drilled the seat bottom /reverse side of where needle rests? I had cleaned carb with spray cleaner and compressed air with no luck. I finally took everything off carb....that's when I noticed someone has either drilled the hole or made a small, rough "countersink" on the back/bottom side of the seat. I am about positive that's why I can't get the engine to run correctly. I just tried a similar test to what you demonstrated in video....with float and needle installed, carb upside-down, I blew threw a fuel line connected to carb with carb under water and me pushing down on the button on needle. I had bubbles. If there is a way to show you a pic of seat, let me know how. I think the drilling or whatever someone did opened up the hole in seat more. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    I heard you shouldn't replace the rubber-tipped float thingees because the new parts are inferior to the original factory part. Idk. I read that somewhere and it makes sense.

      Let me try and see I can catch Shane to answer quick. He is currently at an extended stay in Japan training students this winter. We are just the social media team.
      Due to his limited bandwidth on time and demand for help, we had to choose to forward any requests from members first and it is only $1.99 a month to join. All member tech questions like this get directly forwarded to him every day! Be mindful and honest that this is for "quick questions" that would serve you answers that can clearly be addressed. If it's a diagnosis need you'll need to use the one-on-one service.
      Here is how to get in!

      Marty, same problem. I fly Paramotors. Cranking it one day while facing it, it ran away, went over the top of my head. Doing so, it slaughtered my left shoulder & face. The propeller I mean, at 6,000 rpm. Bled like stuck pig. Still trying to figure out what happened. Throttle & throttle slide were at idle.

    my carb was leaking from the overflow tube. i cleaned carb and replaced all jets (repair kit). Now when i test the new needle valve, it does NOT pass air. when using an air compressor (fuel inlet) it does BUT it blows out of the whole valve from sit. My question is, does the small pin in the valve suppose to pass the air and stop when compressed?

      @@How2Wrench My specific question is about the spring clip that binds the float with the float valve. Is it suppose to hole the float tab tight on the valve pin (without compressing it of course) or dingle freely with gap? I had the concept that he valve regulate the fuel flow so when the float compress the valve pin it stops the flow OR the float lifts the whole valve UP and by so allowing the fuel to flow (which in this case, the spring pin on the valve is just to dampen the vibration?

    At 10:40 you're talking about potential for a rich fuel condition. How does 1/2mm or 1 mm variance in float level have anything to do with air fuel mixture when it's a fact jets are what control A/F? The float is constantly bouncing around while the vehicle is moving which in turn is going to affect float level to some extent. With your theory the carburetor never has the proper air fuel ratio because the float is always moving. I'm curious how you came up with this theory.

    my motorcycle carbs have non replaceable seats (pressed in brass cylinder) and so i followed instructions online on cleaning them and polishing them, but they still leak when i hook them up to a fuel tank, yet seemed not to with 5 psi of air, is there something i am doing wrong? i bought brand new needles, are the floats supposed to just press on the spring pin or should they apply force to the needle itself before they hit the carb case

    I like his methods, but why spring straight for replacement? don't be a lazy shit, pull the needle and seat and inspect/clean first. ya gotta get it out anyways. there's a good chance there's just some shit from modern gas that got lodged in there. most of these small cycles don't run fuel filters.

      Keep in mind there are many variables. Labor can be intense to remove an replace parts. If a bike is old or high mileage that must be taken into account. One must also consider labor time versus parts cost.
