Hey all - hope you enjoy! And don't forget to check out the full in-depth review here, answers tons of questions as well that I couldn't cover in the video without making it even crazy longer: www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/08/garmin-edge-1030-in-depth-review.html/
Hey Rainmaker, when will be a show about the turn by turn real navigation? or maybe is the same that the edge 1000...i dont know... thanks for the video!
way more thorough than the BikeRadar vid i just watched!! they mentioned the longer battery, which seemed to be the only highlight for me. but after watching yours... i see lots more features that appeal to me /make me want to upgrade from my 1000
So like the 1000 but clearer fonts/ updated and clearer UI. Better battery life. Basically what the 1000 should have been to start 600usd for 15hr battery life...
Hello, I have both edge 1030, and the 935. Is there anyway to have my training session synchronized in both devices? I use 1030 for cycling , and 935 for swimming and running, but I cannot see overall activities accumulated in one place, so recovery readings etc are not true...any idea how to resolve it? Thank you!
Thanks for the video. I have a Garmin 1000 and the weather function leaves a lot to be desired. With the 1030 it grabs the weather off of your phone? That would be much more accurate.
I have had an edge 800, 810, 820 and now 1030. (As well forerunner 600, 620). I cycle tour, I'm a roadie, but also enjoy MB'g. Question - does the edge 1030 support/integrate with Trail Forks? On recent MB trips (Sedona Arizona & Moab) I see Trail Forks rides I would like to be able to display on Edge 1030 as a route. Any suggestions? Thanks for your ongoing videos/advice... Big fan for many years.
Does it have new CPU regarding garmin 1000? With many tracks, segments, maps, the garmin 1000 is very slow. The 1030 menus look like they also have some lag and it's not very "agile" on screen changes ...: / How it works?
In 2017, how a big company like garmin can build a $600 laggy bike computer. Use to have a 510 and the GUI & usability hasnt improve a bit, in spite of all the tech improvements and hardware available.
Mine arrived the red a little washed out as Pink, is this right, effects heard grapgh, blues and greens are very light pastel shades, looks off or is this normal???/ Thanks
What is the life cycle length? I can see where you reviewed this two years ago. Does that mean a replacement model is on deck? Not sure how long Garmin keeps a model around?
Question based strictly on accuracy of gps mileage and tracking. Which is better; Edge 1030 or Fenix 5x? I have them both and throw out/delete one ever ride when primary works.
Generally speaking most people get slightly better accuracy out of the Edge 1030 than a Fenix 5 in terms of GPS-accuracy, but there's no hard and fast rule.
Hi DCR, thanks for the video. Do you know if there is maximum number of live Strava segments that you can download to the 1030 ? I have around 400 starred segments on my Strava yet only around 100 download to my device. It could be that t's the oldest segments that get downloaded first as it seems to be some of my more recent favourites that are missing. Thanks !
That's a good question, and I'm not sure. I believe it's more than 100 though, because people used to complain about Wahoo's limit which I think was roughly 100 a while back, and then it charged. It's probably a good question for the Garmin Forums, as some of the Edge team members follow there.
Great video but I wasn't upgrading. The 1030 is my first Garmin so #1 you talked too fast and #2 instead of explaining some features you reference the older unit which didn't help me. But anyway it was very useful, thanks very much!
I've got a 520 and thinking of getting this for the upgraded navigation. My misgiving is will sweat drops act like button presses? This happened to me with iPhone mounted on my stem more than once
I appreciate your effort and interest to make the video. Though for me, unfortunately, you speak too fast and the information presented as an overall tutorial is too convoluted. One has to be IMO a very savvy experienced Garmin Edge user, (I use an Edge 1000 but just for basic real-time info during a ride), to get a functional grasp of your video review. My criticism aside, kudos for taking the time to make the video.
Please please help me just brought the Garmin 1030 no matter what i do i can’t the screen bright its at 100% and dull i am pulling my hair out and about to throw it into the river HELP
Yeah, this is nice and all, but I have had two Garmin units crap out on me ever since I have used them about 6 years ago, and not even long after I purchased them. After doing a hard reset, still didn't work correctly. Called them to send unit back to them, hoping they could reset it or look at it, and was told I had to buy a refurbed unit. Never again. Overpriced, and don't last. They won't get another penny out of me. I'll stick with a Wahoo ELEMNT
kinda looks like the old navigation systems in 2008. Can't they put in some smartphone chip to speed that up? especially while scrolling its so goddamn slow.
in a few days i will be in my hands the new Karoo! i think that is better than this 1030, the screen is awesome, fast like an smartphone, the maps i think that hibrid real image from the sky, not a standard map, and so cheap!
I refer you to the Oxford Dictionary definition 1.1: "Problems or difficulties, especially with a service or facility. ‘a small number of users are experiencing connectivity issues’".
Issues are magazines, newspapers, and topics of discussion. When a earthquake happens, it's a problem, not an issue. Not debatable. A bad connection is a problem. Why it happened could be multiple issues.

Thanks for showing me how to use. Only had mine a few days, you’ve made it easier for me.

Looks great I can’t wait to get it
Waiting for your Vector 3 review 👍👌🏼
Check out my preview post!

Thanks good tutorial, make some on creating routes and downloading
No reason in 2017 to have a screen with this much lag.

I got a garmin 1030 plus but I'm not getting my gear ratio an gear combo to connect.

Since you spilled the beans and also garmin just came out with a teaser video, when are you reviewing the vector 3's? :) Keep up the good reviews

Typically 2-3 years.
@@Dcrainmaker Thank you! A new model is close at hand then!

Are the graphical data fields new? Not available on my edge 520
can you hike with this device like with for example etrex touch 35?

The 1030 has no Bike Alarm is that correct?
I mean, the map and UI looks way nicer than the edge 1000 but how did they manage to keep the sluggishness is beyond me

un compteur 1030 et pour une mise jour non terminée , il s'est planté, prière je cherche le moyen de le débloquer et merci d'avance .
Touch screen does seem to lag - !
They need to change the firmware on the 1000, this looks a lot better

I agree. Speaking fast is a new odd trend on youtube. Please speak normally.
how to cancel sleep mode ?
Please please help me just brought the Garmin 1030 no matter what i do i can’t the screen bright its at 100% and dull i am pulling my hair out and about to throw it into the river HELP
Ray did this video just to show off his FTP 😛
Hi dc...I`m a fan of your work, but ....for all we" not english talkers...would you please slow down your speach?
Turn on captions to help
You can also use the RUclips option to slow it down.

The Garmin 1030 just doesnt feel like Garmins best foot forward

I have Garmin 1000, worst purchase ever. Garmin, never again. I just hope (and wait) Strava for Apple watch will include live segments and routes.
imagine hitting a bump and it flys off or crashing and the screen cracks ikes!
Their UI is still as slow as a bloat infested porn filled laptop.
Chris Sigh...Haters gonna hate.
i'd say it's justified, the 820 was that slow and it came out a year ago now? they surely could have made it change faster?
kinda looks like the old navigation systems in 2008. Can't they put in some smartphone chip to speed that up? especially while scrolling its so goddamn slow.
haha truee!!!
Hammerhead Karoo or Garmin 1030. 😏😏😏 decisions decisions
+ Wahoo ELEMNT.

ACDChardr0ck A few days? I pre-order mine(Karoo) and they said October. :(
Yes 30 days, also preorder and yes a ''few days'' compared with 3 years waiting for this SHIT of Garmin, men...
What is the excuse for this lag, Garmin? $40 Chinese Android phones are more responsive. I'm done with them until they develope these a lot more.
Garmin wants $600 for bike computer with dull and laggy screen? GTFOH!
It seems you cover everything except how to set up language.
Yikes, $780
slow down you are hard to hear...
Talks far too fast and goes through the features far too quickly to follow.
"Problems", not "Issues". Please stop misusing the word
