@@TheTravelingSwiss - I am doing my trip from Zermatt to St. Moritz some time between Aug 26-30th of this year. Planned stay at Thun as a base for 10 days to cover all attractions in the area.. Looking at seat reservations now. I hope the weather is fine and cooperative. I am dreading the crowd since its prime season.
Hi. Good Informational Vlog. We r using Thun as a Base for our 2 week trip to Switzerland in Aug of this year. One of our goals is to do the Glacier Express from Zermatt all the way to St. Moritz and back to Thun the same late at night through the regular trains. 1. which section of the journey can be skipped to save time and not miss the best scenic views. 2. When reserving the seats ahead, i like to book the window seats. When traveling from Zermatt to St. Moritz, on the seating map, which side is better to pick for views- those on the top / bottom of the seat map. Thanks!
Sooo Helpful and nice to watch your posts! Can you book 1st class from St. Moritz just to Chur? then switch to a normal SBB train to Zurich? My guess is yes, but i don't want to find out otherwise the hard way when I get there :)
Hello!! we are planning to visit Swiss next year, we are about to buy tickets but, we want to know, which month was this video recorded? we want to visit on February, but we are not sure about the weather, thanks in advance for your answer!! we love your videos, are clear and open the eyes of the spectators (like us) to see closer this beautiful country! thanks for doing it!
I was on this trip in September. Such a beautiful way to see Switzerland! I’ll be honest- I was terrified going over the Landwasser viaduct. Also scared in tunnels and along steep precipices. Yes I’m a baby. 😂 I really wish I had known about the traditional Swiss music on channel 7! I’m going to have to do it again just so I can listen to yodeling while riding through the mountains. One crazy thing that happened was that a waiter carrying a bunch of dessert plates tripped over something and fell with a huge crash. He broke his knee, and we stopped at the next station for about 45 minutes and waited for an ambulance to come get him. Those wait staff have a really tough job. The food was absolutely amazing though. I loved all of it!!
I am planning this trip in 3rd week of August. Since you did your trip in September did you get to see snow capped spots at all? When booking seats which side do you pick for the best viewing. On the seating map, ones at the top / bottom - travelling from Zermatt to St. Moritz. Thanks.
@@cookmaster3626 Due to the damage to the railroad system in the Mattertal valley, the continuous line between Visp and Täsch below Zermatt remains closed until at least August 25. All Glacier Express trains will run exclusively between St. Moritz and Brig until the line is opened. On the route between St. Moritz and Brig the normal services are available and the departure and arrival times for all stops will remain as per the timetable. For Glacier Express travelers from/to Zermatt, an appropriate alternative transport service is in operation in an extra train from Zermatt to Täsch and separate buses between Täsch and Brig. Guests affected will be informed directly by Railservice Glacier Express as soon as possible. For departures from Zermatt, we recommend that you arrive at Zermatt station half an hour before the regular departure time. Our staff will then meet you there. Optionally, you can also board the train directly in Brig. Please refer to the timetable for departure times. If you have already booked for the time in question and decide not to take the Glacier Express journey as planned please contact our customer service directly.
@@petermetz9022 - I would love to buy a small Condo and live in Switzerland, but the home purchase laws are very strict or impossible for non EU citizens. Are there any cantons that allow easy path to buying property in Switzerland for US Citizens?
Hello, How you do to reserve a seat on the 1st classe?! I try today for the 1st classe 94/93 days before; 0:00am not open, 2:00am not open; 4:00am only one seat, and of course it is the worst!!!
You don't have to. If you want to, you will have to stay overnight at the destination and catch the same train next day. This means have to reserve a seat again subject to availability etc. The entire journey end to end is about 8 hrs. There are only 2 trains that run each way the full distance and they are in the AM only before around 10 AM.
@@cookmaster3626 Thank for reply. Is it, by any option, possible to do part journey of this train from Luzerne and return to Lucerne by scheduled train. So that I can save my one day and also enjoy the ride of this train.
@@Vicky-Baba Go to the website for Glacier Exp. YT doesn't allow me to put the link. It has all the info you need- like route map, stops, time table, reservation of seats (A MUST) etc. There are only 3 trains that run from both ends (Zermatt and St. Moritz), and start at 8, 9 & 10 AM approx. the full journey is about 8 hours. Seat reservation is highly recommended. Since you want to start from Lucerne your options are minimal to do in a day. My best guess on a quick review is you start the journey from Andermatt and decide how far you want to go to be back to Lucerne by other trains to finish off same day. I will be staying in Thun near the train station and take the 9.52 AM train from Zermatt make the full journey and leave St Moritz for Thun (my base a 4hr plus journey and return at 11 PM. A very long day of 14 hour train only journey.
Have some good news for you. I did some more research. From Lucern you take the 1st train leaving at 6.00 AM to Zermatt. It reaches Zermatt at 9.14 AM. Then take the Glacier xpress train at 9.52 AM, go all the way to St. Moritz- full trip. You reach St Moritz at 5:37 Pm. Take a train @ 6.02 pm from St. Moritz and reach Lucern at 10.25 pm. In one long day you do the full trip and get the value for your money. Hope it helps!

Can we use the saver day pass ticket for the glacier express. for the upcoming October trip? Seat reservation already done. Just need to buy tickets.
Going there next year April 30… wonder if there will be some snows around that time😊
Usually all year
hi does this depart from Zermatt GGB station?
is it possible just take a shorter trip and not go all the way to st. moritz ?
Thank you for this can you share your thoughts on places to visit where kids can play or best sightseeing with kids
Lauterbrenan area. Mannlichen gondola big playground. Forgive spelling errors.
what about internet service on train and using it internationally do u have to pay aboard?
is there a wifi on board?
Where do you stay before you leave?
We stayed (loved!) in hotel walther in Pontresina
Can we see good amount of snow on this route in June 2nd week? We want to go on this train only if the view has snow covered views on the way.
Usually through Switzerland you'll be guaranteed this.
Still beautiful ride. To bad seat reservations are doubled last few years. Price 2nd class in 2018 23 francs today 49 francs.
49 francs for one way? How much is a two-way (return) ticket?
Perhaps i was driving😂
Love your videos. Is it ok to travel solo on these trains? thanks
Yes indeed
Which month was this train journey in?
First week of February
