Some of us get stuck at the point of entry in the hobby or stuck at the point of success. Either the first reptile we’ve seen reach maturity or a first clutch etc, and we tie that sense of pride to everything, including the methods used to achieve that ‘first.’ Being defensive about new tech is an emotional response that protects those feelings of pride. And in some of our cases, we don’t want to throw out $90 lamps that we’re supposed to be the last ones we ever needed.
Turtle at the Train station, cheap Chinese lamp, you know the one, Ticket lady pretty much said "It's a rescue so I ain't spending much" was in a UK pond before, in many ways a better situation, at least it had Sunlight.
Really good video and subject, thank you for providing us all these datas and test, you truly help this hobby . As I have noticed, a lot of snakes keeping are done with ceramic, heat tapes or deep heat. These do not provide IRA but mostly B and C. Do we know if its harmless for them? In the wild they will sometimes bask but some species are thermoconformist as they stay in an environment with the same stable temperature
@@auroraominae thanks for your feedback and comment :) This is really valid. Unnaturally disproportionate levels of IRB are very likely to cause drying of the skin, so aren’t the best. And providing a full spectrum is about more than what we consider to be basking, light does much more than the “direct” effect of inducing basking. I’d also wonder how much of the heat a thermoconfirmist snake (aka hiding in a burrow) is actually from conduction rather than radiation - which means it’s not IRA, B, or C at all.
@@ryanmayes-vn1bh Hi, this is a really good question. And the only answer I can really give based on the information you’ve provided is “a setup that replicates sunlight as best as possible”. I have some information on replicating sunlight on the website, and you’re welcome to pop an email over too :)
Great video Thomas!
Thomas you look like you’ve lost weight youre looking good! I loved the video as always!

Ok I have a 4foot lace monitor
what lighting heating setup should I use please
I think you missed an important part of the video where he says that he can't provide proper advises without knowing how your setup is built 😊
