Really cool thing you missed is that Sequoia received support for new joysticks: * Wired Xbox 360 * Nintendo Switch N64 Controller * Nintendo JoyCon Grip * Wired Xbox ONE
I think the really hopeful answer to why Blizzard is working on an Apple Silicon native version of Diablo 3 and not Diablo 4 is because Diablo 3 is, at this point, the last game in the franchise to be native to macOS. The hopefulness is that this will be testing grounds for how popular this version of Diablo 3 will be, how complicated or easy the port will end up being, and if it will be worth it to make a Mac native version of Diablo 4.
I am a Mac Fan and I bought a M3 Air with 16 GB in June because I read about the „big Future“ of Mac Gaming. Now it seems there is not much left of those great words. Sold it now for 1200,- € and bought a Tuf A15 for 799,- € This runs nearly every Game with 80 FPS in Silent Mode ! probably makes more sense to buy a cheap mac as a laptop and build a pc so that you get the best of both worlds. more power and upgradability than laptop also. still some games can be played on mac but it is really good for productivity and as a laptop.
I play the game Project Zomboid and thanks to macOS 15.0 the game is finally running again. With about 370 mods activated, nothing worked at all. The game ran with 0 FPS. Now with 15.0 and 370 mods enabled, it runs almost smoothly. I think with 100 mods less, it will run smoothly.
Thanks Andrew. This is really helpful for me to see a summary instead of multiple smaller videos. Personally I would prefer you speak slower like in your other videos, I’ve been told that those that wish other to speak quicker would just do a 2x on RUclips themselves! Anyways… best wishes!
thanks for the overview and your great inside into the scene. since I don't have the time to keep up with discussions and news on discord I greatly enjoyed your news feed and would be happy to see those around in the future.
We probably won’t unless developers add support for it. Even with Proton for ARM they will still need to add support. Games like Call of Duty and Fortnite for that reason don’t work on Proton for Linux.
Apple has not only to increase the base specs, but also decrease the cost of upgrading RAM and SSD. It doesn't matter having 16GB/512GB minimum if they'll cost 400 bucks more. And I bet they'll do. Same thing happened when they last released a "cheap" 13" MacBook Pro to replace the one with the touchbar. It wasn't any cheaper, they simply halved RAM and SSD...
I hope the Resident Evil 4 situation can be fixed with either getting rid of the requirement all together or if they absolutely must verify it was purchased that App Store bought games can be listed in a cache that is accessible without internet. As far as anti-piracy it’s not the worst as it doesn’t bug down the game performance but is inconvenient for those who want to game on the go.. hence why it’s on a MacBook not a Mac mini or iMac
Thanks for the news. 🙌🏻 I was actually quite taken aback by Natbro's departure from GPTK developement, but when it's almost 2 month old information and meanwhile the GPTK 2.0b3 came out which improved performance quite well, so I wouldn't be that worried about GPTK future. 👍🏻
Valve should absolutely make Proton for ARM because the future of handheld gaming is ARM chips. In a better timeline we have Steam with Proton on an M4 Handheld.
Having to be online to start a game is a feature that almost killed the Xbox One. The license key should be saved on the device the app is on and it should only check for the key when doing updates.
Hi Andrew, I've been waiting for a long time for you to make videos like this. I really like videos like this, I hope you bring more news in this way 😃👍
Should've also mentinoed that apparently GTA 5 Online no longer works on Linux and macOS because Rockstar has started to use BattleEye anti-cheat. But on the positive side there are rumors that Microsoft is pushing to move away from having components like anti-cheat in the kernel for better security, which could have huge and positive implications for getting multiplayer games that use kernel-level anti-cheat to work on Linux and Apple Silicon hardware. From what I understand, kernel-level anti-cheat should never be necessary for having strong enough measures against cheating in multiplayer games anyway, and that it mostly reflects on the developers' lack of talent and/or effort when the anti-cheat has a kernel-level component. As we move forward hopefully game developers start taking more different and sensical measures against cheating that don't affect compatibility with different operating systems, as it certainly looks possible.
They are probably doing it for Diablo 3 because its a more stable platform to work with in comparison to their current live services. Once they perfect translating D3 they can implement it across more of their catalog
still waiting for the big intelx64/metal games to get native arm64/metal ports to squeeze the last 25-35% performance out of them. FERAL/ASPYR go for it!
The way Apple handles projects, it is little surprise it was described as a Sisyphus attempt. Apple will build up a bunch of hype, then leave just as quickly when the next piece of glitter catches their eye, as if none of it ever mattered.
ofc for external hard drive u cant select a ntfs drive that u have mounted via third party support UGHHH (i have ntfs for most compatability with windows linux and mac)
Do we know what changed that Intel allowed Apple to use AVX license? Because my initial knowledge was. Apple could emulate AVX but Intel had the license and was preventing them from doing so.
The license is from the x86 Instruction set (of which AVX2 is a part) as far as I know. I assume that the reason why the translation to the corresponding ARM instruction took so long is because it either was very inefficient or there were edge cases which would be not translated properly.
People need to make up their mind. Either is Apple buying ports or Apple is not giving a damn. Both can’t be true. Unfortunately Apple hasn’t paid for any of these ports. They have provided technical assistance however. I truly wish they had paid, because it would prove they give a crap.
Really cool thing you missed is that Sequoia received support for new joysticks:

Yeah I like the idea but maybe make it look a little different? Comes across ripoff-y

Yes, do it regularly. Great overview for those of us who don't have time to follow stuff daily.
They are using Diablo III as a testbed for other possible ports.

USB Xbox one controllers on iOS iPadOS and macOS is awesome!🎉
I really hope we get Overwatch 2 one day. I could play it on PlayStation but I can't stand using a controller for FPS games.

I‘m currently playing d4 via GeForce now and it just works perfectly, just crazy. I would appreciate a native version though

does Counter Strike 2 run better on Crossover or Asahi Linux?
