I failed mirrabooka because the guy took me to the intersection at 7:47 (after the school zone signs), and i wasn't aware it was a school zone since there was nothing really showing that it was. So i was going 49 in a 40 zone, and failed. In that situation what should i have done (assuming i don't know the area), because im sure if i went to another area i wasnt familiar with and i turned into the middle of a school zone, i would go 50 instead of 40.

According to the notes, it appears that a candidate could have proceeded as there was no one to give way to but failed to observe early enough to make a better judgement. They don't want you to stop and look if there's clearly no vehicles to give way to. Check "Give way" intersections on approach. It's best to discuss these matters with the assessor per completion of the assessment. Best regards!
