Onions don't even need soil to grow. Growing onions in water is a project the kids will love because they can see the roots growing through the sides of the glass. If you place a sprouted onion with the roots down in a glass of water, it will continue to grow on the top with new shoots.

Thank you! I grow and dehydrate for long term and freshness, and get a continuous supply, vs one time with the onion itself. Some people will just complain about anything they dont understand, and obviously not into real cooking..

I watched in some videos where the grown onions with leaves would have several cloves each that could be separated manually and replanted to grow until they again produce cloves. Repeating this cycle several times over a 1year period would multiply greatly the number of onions.

Plz tell if watering is done with normal water or some fertilizer/rooting chemical etc is to be added.
Water spray once a day or two-three times a week!

bad idea. Those shoots taste nasty , I've tried it. Cuz they grew out of rotten onion. Plant micro onions or seeds in soil

Don't try this. The leaves taste nasty since they are getting nutrition from an old rottening onion. Needs soil for good taste.

You just plant for the leaves. I thought it will.multiply or give you another onions. Or maybe to preserve those onions not to.rot. But anyway it is still a good job. More power Theo. I like your mustard growing. 🙂

O don't think this to grow onions. This is just to use the chives (leaves) in saĺads/stir fry etc. Grow in full sun and water as the water is used up. Excellent idea thanks! Regards from South Africa 🇿🇦 😀

Te falto explicar que POR CADA. brote al separarlos y ponerlos en tierra tendrás una nueva cebolla. Y al trasplantar cortas el brote a10 centímetros y esperar que la cebolla cresca
Y en cuanto tiempo habrá nuevas cebollitas?
Creo que no es un buen sistema. Cuando nacen las raízes se deberia transplantar (en tierra) cada cebollita daria flores, consequentemente, semillas. Ahí sí compensa, porque a partir de una cebolla tienes muchas semillas y te produce muchas cebollas. Con este sitema, una cebolla de genera una cebolla, nada rentable.
