Why were they heading to Windsor castle a different way
During Easter Court, they go via the gates at the top of castle hill and conduct the guard change in the quadrangle. I’ve never known the full tradition behind why they do it in the quadrangle but there’s a period of a week or even 2 weeks where they do it in the quadrangle, + it’s every day!

Why is there always a guard without an instrument in the band?
That is the Band Master or director of music. They carry a music baton to conduct the band when they are in the castle.
