Anyone who decides that crucifixion was a purely Jesus incident apparently hasn’t heard of the 100,000-150,000 people crucified by the Roman Empire, including the 6,000 some slaves crucified in a day after Spartacus.
It was a very real punishment, and one can be “socially crucified” without being equated to Jesus.
He probably meant Jesus, crown of thorns in the beginning and all, but I’m not going to accuse him of it if he doesn’t walk around referring to himself as the second coming.
I mean Ronnie hates religion, so yeah this is 100% a jab at Christianity
@@nikoraasu6929 interesting that he only jabs at Christianity, there are a lot of other religions, but he consistently only uses Christian motifs.
I'm Christian and I don't take it too seriously. There's a lot of symbolism baked in there that is personally relevant to him. Christianity as an institution deserves a lot of criticism because they no longer resemble the foundation they were supposed to be built on Christ. Huge amount of abuse happens within Christianity that gets hidden, when we are commanded by Jesus to expose evil and defend the defenseless. Anyone getting offended by someone calling that out, is part of the problem. He just needs to be careful not to go too far into proclaiming himself a savior figure.
It's the same as people thinking upside down cross is the devil that was all Hollywood. The real upside down cross started with Peter requesting to be crucified upside down, as he felt unworthy to die in the same manner as Christ.
To your point, they also gave him the crown of thorns to mock and humiliate him, so could very well be symbolic for how he’s mocked and people are constantly trying to humiliate him. Jesus was also killed as a blasphemer, and people hate how confident Ronnie is…so even if it is referencing Jesus it’s still just imagery/hyperbolic/metaphorical

I'm Catholic, married in the church, still go and love the Mass. This video didn't offend me - its a freedom of expression and Ronnie is vehemently anti-religious to all religions, so its not really a shock to me. I love the music, I like most of the lyrics and if I don't agree with it, that's fine. Love the content Metalbirb and what a banger of a song and video.
Honestly my favorite video, there's soooo much symbolism. I think people will have a knee-jerk reaction to the crusifiction scene but I don't think he's saying he's Jesus it's all symbolism that's telling a story. There's a lot of little things to see in the video and I had to watch it few times to really get them all. Overall it's fire and I agree with him 100%

This is actually the first one. There's about 6 of them, I think, at this point, that are all tied together by their music videos. I don't remember their order, but it's Popular Monster, Ronald, Voices in my Head, Watch the World Burn, Last Resort (reimagined) and now this one. It would be really cool if their music video order went in the same order as the track list on the album.

Yeah the rapping part was probably the best part of the song. His screaming isn't good even for a rock perspective but he's never done that well. Not bad. The video is insane. Love it.
Idk, I feel a little cringy about the whole "cinematic universe" by R.R. this one is too.. I mean I can't connect in my head this singing style, futuristic world, hommage on J.C. or whatever and total black tattooed Ronnie.
