The pie doesn't become floppy by sitting in the box for a minute bud. It is either floppy or not. This garbo new york style is all about being massive floppy thin pizzas. I have been trying to figure out for years why Florida pizza is impossibly bad. After trying Abeetz (8.2 from D.P.) in Delray with mixed results, I have it nailed down: The humidity is so overwhelming in South Florida (85%+ on most days) that as soon as that pizza comes out of the oven, you have about 5 minutes, TOPS, to get that beautiful hot mozzarella magma down your gullet. Every moment that fresh pie is exposed to that type of moisture in the air (whether in the box, or on a tray), the crisp vanishes and the quality starts to plummet. Great redemption here, and can't wait to give the Frank Pepe's in Delray Beach a try soon!
I didn't think of the humidity, that makes sense. I still think that oven there isn't hot enough though - it gets humid up here too in the summer and pizza gets a better crisp than this had.
@@paulsetti9484could be they may not be hot enough, but abeetz has a coal fire oven that’s blistering hot. It’s crisp for about 2minutes then starts to soften quickly. Happy eating!!!!

Honestly nobody is that of a snob to tell the difference. Usually a 7 can be an 8 for someone else and an 8 can also be a 7. At the end of the day you just want a good pizza pie that will wreck your gut for the evening.

Jumping from 7.2 to 8.1 for a redemption score is crazy. Almost feels like Dave got hate for scoring that low and had to bounce back after calling it “disappointing” everyone knows the Rules 🍕

Dave and I have very different taste in pizza. Frank Pepe's is a 7 at best and for me that's average. And I also just had a Joanie's and hour ago and it to is a 7, nothing special. Waited a month to try Joanies and it wasn't worth the wait, but the two females up front were friendly.
I still have to try it, for "research purposes." I live 1 hour away and next time going by it's on my list. Did you try Jack's Coal Fired in Burlington? I did and it was a 7.1 for me. No crisp, really, and I ordered it well done.
