Carefree RV Awning Operation & Maintenance - 2 Positions & Tips

- In this video, Ronda demonstrates Carefree RV awning operation. This includes how to open and close the manual awning in 2 different positions; the normal position and carport position. She also provides tips on how to maintain a RV awning and fix issues that can occur during operation. A special thanks to everyone who has shared information on the Escape Forum and Facebook page, from which some of these tips were taken.
Our Escape Travel Trailer has a Carefree of Colorado manual awning. Once you learn the simple steps to open and close it, it can be nearly as fast as an automatic awning to deploy.
As full time RVers for the past two years, we have used our Escape Trailer 21's awning for shade and as a dry area outside when it rains. The great thing about the manual awning is that it has a lot of flexibility in positions and you don't have to worry about a motor breaking down!

You were great and so was the camera person. You being a cutie didn't hurt none.
You explained it very well! Most guys are vague and skip important details
Madam,
This is by far the best RV~Camper awning information video I have come across🖖😎
Wow, thank you!!!
Excellent! Slow, clear, can hear your voice. Very helpfull!!
Great video and tips. I didn't know about the carport position, I suppose because I've never seen anybody using it. So I'm glad to know about the choice, and how to do it. Thanks Ronda.
Thanks a lot. I always Make a boo-boo somewhere down the line but thanks
Thanks for watching! Trust us, it's easy to make boo boos!
Thank you! Superb presentation!!!
Thanks so much for watching Barbara!
Excellent video, thank you for the information.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you very much I love the way you explaine things A+ TEACHER
Great Job, I just bought a used RV and tried following the manual for an hour with no joy. Your detailed video allowed me to see that my " remote lock" lever was not working, so the roller would not release. Since you had no such lever on your awning, I could see how to easily bypass my faulty "remote unlock" feature using your technic. The "closing'" part of your video was invaluable as it helped me understand what the manual could not get through my thick skull about the dangers of letting the roller retract uncontrollably . Thanks a million!
You are awesome!!
I'm bout to open mine, and I've seen other videos, but when it comes time to do it, I tend to forget the steps, or it seems more complicated , but you have made it much clearer and also your really great at demonstrating and explaining , so keep making more videos !
Exactly what I needed to see thank you so much helped me out tremendously
Thank you for this video! We have a manual awning on our new house and the previous owner forgot to show me how to open and close it.
I purchased a new to me rv with a carefree awning and I had no ldea how to operate it thanks to you and your great video now I know , I also like the fact that you showed how to put it back.
Thank you so much 🙂
Thanks so much Jeff!! Glad it helped you out!
Great informative video. I am going with the manual awning in my new rv so this is perfect. Rhonda, when you want to move you are fast! I could hardly keep up when you went from one end of the awning to the other!
I think you'll be glad you did go with the manual with the weather we have here. Yep, she's fast!! LOL
THANK YOU! I wish to rider a new RV but they will ONLY put an electric awning on! I want a manual one! Any thoughts PLEASE! ☺
Very well done you’re an excellent teacher thanks for the video be blessed
Thanks for watching Dominic!
Excellent presentation ! Thank you .
Thank you for making this video. It was super helpful.
Great video. I definitely learned some things as well. Thanks for doing this!
Excellent manual awning instructions! Well done, Rhonda! Back when we had a manual awning, I really liked the carport position if we were camping with others. Non-Escape campers were not used to ducking around the support arms so the carport position reduced head knocking. The other nice thing about carport position is that we could run a line between the arms to dry our towels. We didn't do that with the regular position as we did not want to put wet towel weight on the components. But in carport position the weight of the wet towels is transferred directly to the ground so is not an issue.
Ronda says thanks!! That carport position is pretty nice even though we rarely use it. Good idea about the towel drying!
Thanks for the information. The video was well done!
Thanks for watching Carl and glad it helped!
Love your videos-great as usual. :)
Thanks so much Renee!!
Excellent video. Only thing I will add is that the black knobs can most likely be tightened right after the rafters are raised up and latched (this is certainly true on an A&E 8500) and saves you having to reach so high to reach the black knob.
Just what I needed!
Glad it was of help, thanks for the comment.
Good video explaining this awning operation and cleaning tips.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching David!
I love the little sound effects. Makes it look like she is doing some Kung Fu stuff. I also love seeing Rhonda do speed walking in parts of the video😜
We had to add a little something or it would have been a little dry. LOL. Thanks for watching Johnny!!
Fantastic!! Thanks
Thanks so much!
You're welcome and thanks for watching!!
Thank you! ❤
You're welcome 😊
Good job 👍
Thanks 👍
Good job! Learned I should be cleaning more 😀
We should be cleaning more too! LOL Thanks for watching!
Great Job!! Thank You for making me understand...
Where do you store the wand? We are picking up our 21NE the first week of September. I really love your videos and learn a lot from them. Thank you two! 😊
Thanks so much for watching Kathy and for the comment! We store the wand in the front storage box
Great job, had this owning in my old e15, this video reminded me why I went with the electric version in my e19, it's far from perfect but I find that I use it a lot more.
Thanks for watching! I can also see why some people would want the electric. It really depends on how you use it and the type of weather conditions!
@@AdventuresInNoMadness We've had both types (power and manual) on rentals.
We prefer the manual... you can adjust the angle for rain/sun and it doesn't need power.
3M dry silicone lubricant on all sliding parts and roller?
yes
What if when rolling it back up, the black strap doesn’t get returned to the middle.
The top half of my rear awning arm got slightly bent due to a gust of high wind, so that the bottom half wont slide all the way up inside it. Any ideas on how to straighten it?
What if the car port leg doesn’t want to go back up ?
After I open the lever (arm latch) and attempt to to slide up the upper arm channel , it doesn't move. I tried to hammer a block of wood against the channel, but it won't budge. Does anyone have solution?
Sorry I haven't responded yet! We didn't have very good connectivity while driving down from Alaska through Canada. It's hard to say what's wrong with it without looking at it. I wonder if it got bent and won't move now.
Mine did that too trying to fix it . what did you do fix it ?
Btw this video was amazing 😊
I hate my manual awning...so much rather have an electric
Thanks for watching! There's pros and cons to both types for sure!
so annoying to use i just skip it.
