Can we appreciate for one second that those of us who don’t live with our parents or have our spouse pay the bills- a drop in price is a welcomed “problem”. Game stores had set 1 packs for 10+ dollars at a certain point! Who does this entice other than beardos living in their parents basements? (Lol alright all trolling aside…) I enjoy the price drop and think it’s good for the game. I don’t really care if certain ppl aren’t making as much money. It’s a game, for god sake. It would be nice if we could play it rather than exploit it. That’s my two cents, anyways. Love to hear what someone else thinks.
I see this as a market correction. A new TCG cannot survive long if new casual players cannot get access to staple cards. FFG really messed up when they made Luke, Vader and Bobba legendary. My friends are big Star Wars fans but they are not willing to spend $300 for a set of Vaders or $200 for a set of Bobbas. If the game wants to have a wide player base rather than just milk the whales, the cards need to be widely available and this means that the price of singles has to drop. I still think than the prices of Twilight are too high. With the set 1 reprint prices of set 1 legendary cards need to drop to about $10 for the game to recover in many areas.
Crazy that it fell even further. I got a case at $500. Super accessible which is nice, but with the singles market also in steep decline it kind of even takes away some of the fun of opening packs knowing not much is truly a great hit when a bunch of legendary cards are even below $3.
really? i havent seen a showcase since set 1, which i think had the most. i got 3 in the first 3 boxes of set one i bought. none in the plentiful amount of set 2/3 i got.
My favorite set yet! I paid $510 for my case (preorder) and don't feel bad at all about the price drop. Definitely the most fun we've had drafting the game. However certainly concerning for stores.
Yeah I only got the starter sets before cause they were cheap enough to just have some fun but given how good some sales are right now I might swing at 1 box of each set lol.
Just some insights If you support the game… the game will support you. All those sellers with “100” boxes dumping these on TCG player probably thought “ oh look the next SWU set that can get me free tendies like the first two sets not knowing FFG fulfilled allocation for this set as oppose to the last 2 sets. Anyone remember then Shadows came out? Extremely allocated on first run. Now it’s available but everyone is looking to twilight For all you SWCCG guys… was A New Hope worse or better than premiere? Just expected with all new games set 2 is always worse/less sought after than set 1 Lastly this game is only 7 months in… they’ve taken care of print runs (maybe those stores holding 100 boxes should idk runs events like draft and sealed like the game was intended to do from the jump), fixed gameplay and actually listening to the players and we’re still upset about $70 booster boxes?!?! Really?
I got 2 boxes from my LGS, they gave a 30% discount on top of the pre order price. Also 1 of my boxes 4 copys of the same legendary. 3 regular and 1 foil.
The other thing is, I don't want the best cards in the game to be hard to come by. If they want to make sealed product have more value without gatekeeping powerful cards behind rarity, they should utilize more alt arts and card treatments. Bandai does it brilliantly with One Piece.
Great video, cost is $427. I just got a restock of set 1 today. We shall see if it’s going to tank below cost also. It has been a real bummer the volatility of the pricing of this game. I agree, I think set 4 will have an over correction and go back to a pretty high price of stuff. Assuming it's not a trash set. I also want to mention that they just banned the most expensive card in the game, the Boba Fett leader, which the showcase had hit close to $800, and after the ban people were selling them for $300-$350.
I personally want to have access to boxes and cards. Sure perhaps we need slightly less printing but not by much. Cards should be accessible and have the show case be what collectors hunt
Wow! This is crazy. OK, so I can rip packs for cheap of this third set. Am I gonna have to buy lots of cards that are probably still expensive from the 1st and 2nd sets to play the game?
The second set is also dirt cheap. Almost all rares are under $1. Most legendaries are under $6, with a few high end at $13 and $20 price points. The first set has held its value a little better, but there's supposedly another print run hitting at any time which will probably tank values.
I don't disagree that over printing is an issue. However, it is up to the LGS to determine their own local market for how much allocation they should order. Nobody should be demonizing FFG in this situation completely or the print run. They listened to feedback. While feedback doesn't necessarily need to be followed all the time, they did need more print as compared to set 1. Did they over print? Maybe. But don't blame this exclusively on the print run. LGS should also be trying to push their local community. Do drafts, offer box prize tournaments, etc. The only people who should be freaking out about this are the stores that bought in without a local community and collectors who are just salty they can't flip. I have no sympathy for them. There are no bailouts in hobby investments, and you made that decision yourself. People should look at the positives. 1, the product is selling. 2, officially run competitive tournaments are starting to pick up in consistency and with more event types, don't forget we do only have store showdowns and a handful of PQ's this year. But next year we should start seeing Sector Qualifiers, Regionals and Galactic even for Vegas. All of that should influence the secondary market and drive some box prices back up for set 3 because it will still be in rotation. If there is anything FFG is lacking rn, it's a tighter release schedule. I think 4 months between sets is a long time and can kill some hype sometimes. If they moved to 4 sets a year with 3 months between, I think they will keep the hype established a bit more consistently. So I'm going to disagree with your opinion on 3 sets a year. In today's age, waiting is a hype killer when you have so much immediate satisfaction.
I hit a showcase Mace Windu and a Hyper General Grievous and only bought 3 packs. My guess is that the chase cards are so rare that buying booster boxes doesn't guarantee a hit. So you have to play the single packs game. Had each box guaranteed a showcase hits than that would be different.
They 100% need to rethink how they do packs, because the value is not there and there are also too many cards people do not want. Hyperspace and Hyperfoils look by far the best (although they need to adjust the art for foiling better), no one wants regular foils. Showcases are too rare that buying sealed product to chase them is truly a waste, especially as we see their values drops. Also, not having the option for foiled leaders and foiled starter cards in OP packs was a silly decision. The collectors packs of next set I think are just doing to drive sealed product prices even lower. This game doesn't have the following yet to need a collector style product. It hasn't proven itself a real contender in the market. SWU is likely my favorite TCG of all time mechanically and has an incredible limited format, but I am very concerned about its future.
Enjoy the game... it's not an investment. FFG will tank the game in 3 years max, just look at their track record. Not joking at all. I think the game, mechanically, is way better and more fun than Magic, but it's hard to build a player base when people are zombies for MTG
No one ever learning from FFG's history is insane to me. They make trash that fails. Over and over and over and over and over.... Stop supporting them with your $.
The main problem is FFG just doesnt support their product when it comes to competitive scene. A few weekly promos isnt supporting shit. Everything is made to be done by locals. People shouldnt be doing that. FFG needs reps like Decipher of old doing it. And the ambassadors is fine too, but they dont even support that.
One of my LGS told me 2 months before release of set one when I asked if they would carry it that there was no chance in hell they would carry it because they knew that FFG was going to F up and they didnt want to get f'ed by them again. I kind of brushed aside because I did not know about FFG but in retrospect I get it now.
@@le_med It's like they try and make people leave the hobby for ever. From Netrunner to X-Wing to Star Wars Destiny and every Star Wars Armada in between. They kill this hobby.
They don't make trash. They make arguably some of the best games mechanically and thematically of all time. Many of their games have huge, passionate fans. The bigger issue is their poor development process and lack of ability in the organized play area.
While I agree the art is bad, this game is extremely good and has the best mechanics sans the CCG from decipher. It definitely beats the TCG and Destiny.
People complain about over printing. Complain about under printing. People just complain basically.
haha, so true.

Set 3 had the highest print numbers and the meta "bombs" are still decently priced, showcases waaaay higher percentage as well on pull rates
really? i havent seen a showcase since set 1, which i think had the most. i got 3 in the first 3 boxes of set one i bought. none in the plentiful amount of set 2/3 i got.

With set 4 introducing collector booster boxes ( like Magic has) it will be really interesting to see how the print runs will be.
I was mildly intrigued by this game and then the prices skyrocketed, so hey, maybe it’s affordable again and worth picking up a couple boxes!
It’s worth checking out, especially at this kind of price point. Pretty low risk on a booster boxer for *checks notes* $60…? Insane.
If you play competitive especially!!!!
Yes it’s affordable now! Jump in and start playing you will love it!!!
Yeah I only got the starter sets before cause they were cheap enough to just have some fun but given how good some sales are right now I might swing at 1 box of each set lol.
Paid 600 supported the local store don't feel bad at all
This is the way.
Just some insights

Well said!!!

Excellent way to do it. I bought a box and did the prerelease at my LGS
The other thing is, I don't want the best cards in the game to be hard to come by. If they want to make sealed product have more value without gatekeeping powerful cards behind rarity, they should utilize more alt arts and card treatments. Bandai does it brilliantly with One Piece.

Interesting the influence of banning the most popular leader might have had in the confidence of the game
Coming off the set 1 sellout and speculation is rough for the game, but thankfully the playerbbase still seems strong.
I personally want to have access to boxes and cards. Sure perhaps we need slightly less printing but not by much. Cards should be accessible and have the show case be what collectors hunt
All of those anakin showcase cards "sold" on the same day, 5 quantity, so wild.
It’s a bit fishy… I would absolutely hold off on all showcase purchases until things settle a bit.

Definitely think u should start buying packs and join the fun!

@madquest8 you're not wrong on people's obsession with Magic. Complain constantly and still keep buying it.
I appreciate accesible prices. If no store carries it then I buy directly from supplier
☕
We can get cards for super affordable price! Let's complain!
SWU is already dead, move along
well set 3 only has few good cards

The art was terrible. Banning a card is now a thing. Values are dropping like a rock. Dying.
While I agree the art is bad, this game is extremely good and has the best mechanics sans the CCG from decipher. It definitely beats the TCG and Destiny.
Ya I'm fun and feels like if it's affordable more ppl will play
