The cheaper version you can use is hulled millet. Very similar nutrients (in fact it's being used on space flights for the macros). Can be porridge or rice substitute depending on how long (and mushy) you cook it. Can also grind it into a flower for baking. Also a plus, it's gluten free. It's been a middle east staple for thousands of years. Mostly as a bread or breakfast porridge.
@@sherril.562 I'm not sure about the usage of the word 'millet,' but botanically, millet is a grain or cereal that comes exclusively from the grass family. Quinoa, on the other hand, is a pseudocereal belonging to the amaranth family, just like spinach.
Love the quinoa idea! I’ve been making a mixed grain porridge/oatmeal with oats, red lentils, amaranth and buckwheat groats. Quinoa can join the mix ☺️
Well done on showing how plant based can be tasty AND healthy Every person living with the ‘wests’ diet thats been made to believe healthy food is bland and tasteless when in reality, it’s pure taste and the most important thing… it’s nourishing
Thank you Mark. I just ordered the body pod with your discount code. I get a lot out of your videos and am encouraged too. Your quinoa portage reminds me of cream of wheat I had as a kid. Loved the cocoa wheats version. So I might make this as a chocolate version
Wow, thank you!!! I just watched the video and started making this. Quinoa still cooking and I added a pinch of nutmeg as well, but it was super simple to make! 😊
I really appreciate these videos a lot. I’ve been trying to take care of my health and eat more fruit, veggies and fiber-related things. I have a lot of food-trauma that I won’t get into too much, but your videos help make me feel safer about trying new things in ways i hadn’t thought of before. I even tried some quinoa mixed with white rice! I didn’t like it very much, and I’ll have to adjust the ratio, but the point is that I tried it, when I probably wouldn’t have before. Thank you for helping me eat better as a stranger on the internet in a place where my mother failed me and actively tried to harm me.
I approve of this very much. Oats make me tired, they ok in the middle of the day. But morning should be an intact super grain like sorghum quinoa millet or buckwheat. Berries up the polyphenols and even more fiber. Fenugreek and amla help. The super intact grains set your appetite for the whole day and stop your cravings at 4 o'clock. It changes everything.
Oh yes oats make me tired too. I end up eating a lot feeling so full and sometimes not even satisfied. Even if I don't eat a lot of oats at one time I still feel tired.
I like the fruit jelly, I would make this. I like to mix oatmeal and quinoa for a creamier texture. One tip, get the ball jar funnel. It makes them so much easier fill and keep everything cleaner.
Quinoa for breakfast sounds great. I'm going to try it. One note - cooking strawberries causes them to lost most of their Vitamin C. Still tasty though!
The downside of eating quinoa and chia seeds every day is that they're high in phytic acid which prevents your body from absorbing the nutrients you'd otherwise be getting pretty significantly. For that reason it's best to soak the quinoa or chia seeds overnight before cooking which will remove most of the phytic acid content making it much healthier for you.
It looks good but I have to say I think I'd still prefer my multigrain porridge (hulled barley, rye, steel cut oats, red lentils, millet-I'm a Dr. Greger fan) but I try the quinoa. I just prefer the varied texture. Thanks for the suggestion. Bell jar? Not like any bell jar I've ever used-am I missing something?
Mark! Would love to see you do a soy milk recipe, fancy-style to mimic storebought soy milk. Been having fun making it at home recently but I really want to replicate the storebought Silk stuff, I feel like you'd nail it!
Would be curious to know the macros on those recipes. I can handle having the same overnight oats every day but on some rainy days I'd love to have something that's more sweet AND has similarly good macros. :)
I’ve been wanting to use Ball jars for storing things in the fridge. For those who use them that way, do you use the canning lids and rings, or is there a better maybe airtight lid for them?

Millet is excellent, but quinoa and sorghum actually are types of millets. They all heal your ravenous appetite fast, if eaten at breakfast.

For chia seeds in the jelly, if you don't want any of the grainy texture you can blitz them in a grinder and make a super nice vegan jelly powder

Those are ball jars, not bell jars. 🤣 But, Sylvia Plath for the win! :)
You're right! haha
Mason Jars. Ball is just a brand name of them
Good idea with the dates. I made a plant based "egg" nog once with dates. They made for a very good sweetener!

Thank you! I LOVE quinoa!
OK hi im making this - I love doing like an apple pie version but I absolutely need to add dates to my overnight oats game
Okay I am convinced I will be trying this out!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Thank you for the recommendations, I've been wondering about this for some time

I haven't watched this yet but I'm guessing it involves one can of chickpeas lol
Hahaha no chickpeas
It’s just chickpeas

Me too as far as variety and bite. Dr.Gregor is a great resource. I do love the chia jam and love the nice hit of lemon!🎉
@@jencollier8306 Yes, the jam was lovely.
Definitely going to make that berry puree 🙌 I haven't tried quinoa as a breakfast but it just sounds good🙌

Quinoa has more protein than most other grains so should be more filling.
what about adding banana when cooking porridge? or better after?
Im new to quinoa - is there any taste or nutritional difference to the different colors of quinoa??

I use those and Amazon has a one piece lid so you just unscrew it and go.
nom nom nom, thanks for another informative and entertaining video. *high-fives-like-whoa*
Yummmmmmmooo!!!!!!
Do you have an alternative for Coconut Milk?
Also wondering.
Generally, unsweetened soy milk with (or without) coconut extract is a good substitute for coconut milk.
@ thank you.
@ that sounds great thanks
During COVID-19, I tried to make chocolate pudding with chia seeds. It was lumpy from the chia seeds. What did I do wrong?
Are dates diabetic friendly?
They've got a fair amount of fiber so it's a more diabetic friendly sweetener than most.
Can u make Vegan Red Lobster Biscuits?
It seems that he doesn't make Monika any food anymore 😢
Excellent, now when ppl ask what are you eating now you weird-0? I can say quinoa porage and REALLY get 'em 👍👍
Bell jar= mason jar
waiting for the video "why I quit oats"
Yay. I'm tired of oatmeal.
Looks DELICIOUS!! 🤤
When you cook food high in vitamin C, you lose most of the vitamin C in the cooking of it.
