    Making references to simple stuff that most people understand to explain some complex stuff is the best way of teaching. So good job 👍

    I came here to learn about explosions and what I got was so much more; I'm actually extremely interested in physics now just because of that last part. I've been taught in school yet I never understood it this clearly. Its such a logical and interesting theory, thanks for the video man :D

    Well I guess my mother has both a lot of potential energy and need little activation energy.
    I really enjoyed this video man! The music was a nice touch and didn't choke your own voice, which was great. You had some little mic issues though.
    I hope you had a great Christmas and I wish you a Happy New Year man!

      Haha good one. And tell me about the mic issues...turns out Audacity for Linux (which is all I have on my laptop) is somewhat different from Windows (what I normally work in), so I had a few struggles with that unfortunately.
      Thank you for the kind wishes! I hope the same for you.

    ''since the ball wants to get rid of this potecial energy any way it can, it will end up... (explodes). Literally what I thought was gonna happen.

    • @zapphysics
      @zapphysics  4 года назад

      @Natalia Lewandowsk I'm glad you enjoyed it! Just to clarify, which last question? Why the idea of minimizing potential energy explains why particles have mass?

    • @natalialewandowska5199
      @natalialewandowska5199 4 года назад

      @@zapphysics yes I had exactly this question in mind.

    • @zapphysics
      @zapphysics  4 года назад +2

      @Nataliea Lewandowska this is a great question and honestly, this could be a video in itself (and I may make one on this!). The idea comes from quantum field theory which essentially says that particles that we measure are fluctuations in fields that stretch all through time and space. These fields have some "potential energy" associated with them that depends on how likely it is to find a particle spontaneously appear from the vacuum, called a vacuum expectation value, or VEV. The "true vacuum" or the stable vacuum (the state where there are no fluctuations) is determined by the value of this VEV which minimizes the potential. Now, this VEV doesn't have to be zero, as is the case with the field corresponding to the Higgs boson. So, if I have some particle that can interact with the Higgs boson that is massless, as this particle travels along through space, there is a chance that Higgses will pop out of the vacuum and interact with the massless particle. The effect of this is similar to shooting a bullet through water: the particle that was travelling at the speed of light (since it was massless) is basically "slowed down" by all of these interactions which effectively gives it a mass!

    Any thing in motion has potential energy?

    • @nellvincervantes6233
      @nellvincervantes6233 2 года назад

      If there is force field like gravity, electric field, magnetic field acting on object even it is moving, then yes. But we can arbitrarily let potential energy = 0 at some point of the field like the ground we can set the potential energy here is zero.
