Still not ready to jump onto a foldable yet, but maybe by the time I'm due for an upgrade they'll have ironed out most of the caveats. Glad to see some strong competition for Samsung though.

      They could have absolutely disrupted the market and taken a huge share by pricing aggressively, nearer to 1000 (which is a very realistic price, common in the Chinese market). Instead they seem to be blindly following other much more recognised brands, expecting to do equally well even though they're not so well known or trusted.
      How are they expecting people to choose them over the established players? They don't even provide the Samsung specs, like wireless charging, IP rating, stylus support, DEX, etc nor do they offer Google's photography quality or the more usable wide/landscape form factor.

They would be the only solid foldable at that price apart from techno's phone which wasn't even that good at 800 usd(?). The OnePlus selling point was top specs at undercutting prices. This time they got the specs mostly right, but not the low price.
      If they want to charge similar to Samsung, they need to provide the missing features like DEX / stylus support / wireless charging etc, or at least excel in some other department enough that other brands can't compete - for instance if the charging speed was 200w, it would attract a portion of buyers like busy parents or executives who would otherwise not consider it.
      Samsung has their whole ecosystem built over the years, apart from DEX/stylus etc, so a lot of people stick to it. Google does photography really well, and it has a unique form factor that suits productivity as well as videos (extra-wide front screen & landscape orientation when opened). What unique points does OnePlus have?

    I've been a big OnePlus fan/user up to the OnePlus 7 Pro (recently moved to Pixel 8 Pro). OnePlus has lost my attention since the 7 Pro, but this foldable looks top tier in the foldable market. I don't mind the back, Dave2D. Well done, OnePlus!

    • @aliasgharkhoyee9501
      @aliasgharkhoyee9501 7 месяцев назад

      Some of the specs are great, but overall is it really top-tier? No stylus support, no IP rating, no wireless charging, no DEX equivalent, not significantly lower weight (some foldables are closer to 200g), not much slimmer (some foldables are under 10mm, like the Honor Magic V2), etc. It would have been great to see some features no competition comes close to, such as 150w-200w charging like on some of their other phones, or at least aggressive pricing till then - something like 1000 that most foldables sell for in China.

    I had to have looked at at least 10 different youtubers' reviews for the OnePlus Open. I was already convinced that I was upgrading to this phone instead of the Fold5 next month in January when I can afford it (I'm still using and currently typing on a Fold2 so its finally time to upgrade and I've been saving to do so) after the first 3 or 4 reviews. The other 6 or 7 I just keep watching because I'm just so excited to get it, I can't wait! After having used the Fold2 for the last 3 years and loving the hell out of it; I haven't felt like I've been missing anything in the foldable market really until I saw the HONOR Magic V2 and the OnePlus Open. I would honestly get the Magic V2 in a heartbeat but there's no set release date for the global launch of that phone, but the Open is just as appealing to me. I fell in love with foldables ever since I first laid eyes on the Fold2 and now being able to have one with AN OUTER DISPLAY THAT ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE A REGULAR PHONE is the biggest gamechanger to me and what I'm most excited for. The great software, really good camera for a foldable, the current gen panel tech, the IR blaster, etc are all great bonuses, but I swear the biggest perk to me is gonna be the outer display that I can actually use like a standard phone. Typing on the Z Fold's outer screen is so bad lmao

    Figured out why Samsung has a tall display when folded; it's done that way so that when you unfold, you get a "main" display that's roughly 4:3 aspect ratio.
    For the OnePlus Open, the unfolded display is 2440 X 2268 - that's pretty much a square display
