After all those years of watching Dakota as a child star it was a bit confronting seeing her play this role... but she made it her own. Cherie herself was understandably proud.

I’ve been a fan of The Runaways since I was 7, two years before this movie came out. I was totally blown away. the cast was great. I do wished they showed some of what went down after Cherie and Jackie left. Waiting For The Night is an amazing record. I’m 18 now and still think they’re great.

They could definitely just make a second movie, the cast now has the perfect age for it as well.

I wonder if a lot of that might have been due to copyright, they covered the first two albums which were done via Mercury records, the other two were done with a different company. Also it would have been difficult to do Waiting for the Night and "Now the Runaways?"

How was that a comparison, all they really showed was Dakota doing cherrie curry, even when Kristen was playing the guitar. Dakota did an excerpt replica of curry though, spot on!

In the original video in Japan they almost only film cherrie. In the movie they tried repeating the original video + giving it an atmosphere + showing the others girls in more detail and more expression shots. The movie was co-directed by Joan Jett and coached by cherrie curry. I think to date this is the most interesting and spot on movies about someone's life while still making it interesting for all of us. Yes cutting and pasting things together happens to give the movie clarity or else it wouldve been a confusing mess. And to not get into drama about the basist's life they mixed all the girls in to one girl "Jackie the brainy brainiac playing thunder on the base." as it wasn't their storie to tell
Thanks for this! I love this comparison, as many times as I've seen both footage, I never saw the extreme similarity. I appreciate Dakota's portrayal of Cherie much more now. I know Cherie personally and she's a fierce woman definitely!

@@igorjajic6898 you are insane Joan Jett herself Co directed this movie. She famously gave them all the hardest Time as she only wanted perfection. Cherrie curry herself coached dakota fanning trough filming and gave her original clothing as well. Same goes for Kristen. Kristen Stewart memorized and could perfectly play each and every song from the songs they played in the movie and even some more that eventually didn't make the movie. Dokota fanning has a higher voice than cherrie but her mannerisms and look was 100% cherrie. If you dislike the movie, don't watch videos on RUclips about them. Simple as that

Joan and Cherie both helped the cast record their own versions of the songs which truly is pretty remarkable nonetheless. They did great for their own versions, probably the best covers out there. But you are correct, the originals are much more superior.
It was probably done to make it seem more natural for the actors which is understandable.

Ofcorse but isn't that the message of this movie. Joan and cherrie were both kids that didn't got any parent figures. Joan was left by her dad and her mom was never home. Cherrie had an alcoholic father and a mother who was never home and eventually moved to Indonesia leaving her kids with their elderly aunt and grandmother. And every person who was supposed to take care of them gave them drugs to cope with whatever. Eventually because of drugs and alcohol abuse cherrie sold her body to the media because she was encouraged to do so by grown up men. They were strong, sexy, amazing musicians but also terribly underaged.

Kristen Stewart looks more like Cherie Currie than Joan Jett but I guess her personality (or lack thereof) didn't fit with Cherie's.
