Rod Stewart had his children [then 7-year-old Sean and 8-year-old Kimberly] in mind when he co-authored “Forever Young” (1988) along with guitarist Jim Cregan and keyboardist Kevin Savigar.
Dixit the British rocker : “I love ‘Forever Young’ because that was A REAL HEARTFELT SONG ABOUT MY KIDS. I suddenly realized I’d missed a good five years of Sean and Kimberly’s life because I was so busy touring all the time.”
INTERESTINGLY… In 1974, BOB DYLAN released a piece with the exact same title. It has a similar sentiment… so similar that Stewart agreed to give Dylan half of the publishing royalties‼️ 💙🎶💜

This song I wish to dedicate to my precious son Corey. He was my 22nd birthday gift from father God. I was given the responsibility to raise this little baby boy the best I could with whatever knowledge I had from living a very sheltered life myself. I screwed up majorly so many times, some I can’t seem to forgive myself for. But I love him with all of my heart and I’d like to believe that he knows this despite my shortcomings as his mom. And so this song is everything I pray for his future. He’s a 27 yr old man now but in my heart he’ll always stay… Forever Young. Please forgive me ❤🙏

Thank you Rod Teward for composing this beautiful song to your child, in your loving words you speak for so many living and gone. I heard for the first time this song, as for the first time I really put attention to it and as I was listening I felt my mother who passed away a few years back speaking to me through this song. I realized the true values my mother lived for and how she always intended the best for me even though as I was growing up I wast not be able to see it and appreciate it. This song is a blessing in my life. It has brought me what I waited to hear from my mother clearly my entire life. I finally see it was always there. My mother's love for me was always there in all forms. Now I see I was a very loved child by my mother and her sacrifice to raise me hurt her more for not be able to be there as she really wanted. I feel in peace with my mother y better yet I feel her love. ❤❤❤❤ I love you too my beautiful mother. You will be in my heart for ever young too.❤
Loved this song as a teenager but it really hitted me when becoming a father, my boy is a teen now, but always a baby in my heart, it' s comforting someone turned to lyrics such a wonderful feeling.

at one point this music was considered embarrassing and trite; sung by a man well past his prime. an obvious ode to chart success by someone who was at that time _well_ taken for granted.
and look at it now. even without comparing it to recent music (some of which i DO really like), it's a _gorgeous_ ballad sung with grace and conviction by one of the best singers to ever sing music like this.
this song's like a really entertaining Steven Spielberg movie - totally taken for granted, _completely_ underrated when it comes out.
