    I can’t wait to see him talk about Tears of the Kingdom. I was late in getting BotW just due to not being able to save enough for a Switch, but finally with the money from my first serious job I had enough to buy a switch and this game. It sounds silly but getting this game was a goal of mine for awhile. I had wanted it since seeing the trailers and this sounds extremely silly but I cried when I came home from work and saw my brother had unpacked my switch to charge it for me so I could play it with full battery when I got home.

  • @chrislin2663

    I feel like Zelda is secretly an Immersive Sim like Deus Ex, Thief and Dishonored. They don't really limit your abilities and your skills but give you a set of tools for you to solve problems. Calling up a doppelganger and chain her with enemies in Dishonored 2, shooting wooden ropes to hide on the ceiling in Thief, etc. These games really push you to explore, not only physically, but also mentally, to create new ways to reach your goals.
    I love them with a passion.

      Notice how those games are stealth games? Good stealth games operate on and are designed fundamentally to be "here's a problem, here's a giant toolbox, solve that shit" type of games.
      Most open world games today pretty much became scripted "This is how you must exactly do this mission or you'll fail." Rockstar is a huge culprit of this.
      With the only ones that I can name off other than BotW being HZD, Far Cry 5, and AC Odyssey and even then your only freedom is limited to killing enemies in how you see fit.

    Got me a good BOTW story...
    I got a friend of mine into games about 6 years ago through the 3DS. They loved some Mario and such but didn't try Zelda.
    They then got a WiiU but didn't play a whooole lot on that.
    But then came the Switch and holy crap, did he become a BOTW addict.
    He did everything. Even collected all those fucking korok seeds, knowing you got almost nothing for it.
    He must have a few thousand hours in total and even these days spends an hour or two a night just roaming Hyrule. It is really amazing the affect this game has had on him.

    Theres one thing that nobody told me when i started: once you finish the game, you dont get that feeling of exploration ever again. The feeling of being so small and staring at all the other towers in the world waiting to be unlocked by you. That feeling was the best and i get sad everytime i look at the game cause i know I'll never feel that again. No other game has given me this feeling and everytime i look at it i wish i didnt play it so that i could go in blind again and get that feeling. I hope theres someone out there who can relate to this.

    One of my favorite experiences in breath of the wild is when I started hunting Lynels. I've always been afraid of big bosses and battles in video games, but in this zelda i became so confident. I would prep cold resistant meals, put on the savage set and head for the tundra to hunt the scariest of beasts in breath of the wild, and it was freaking intense, my my hands would get sweaty and my body would begin to shake. But in the end, I had conquered the Lynels and I felt so good about myself. :)

    Honestly the best moment of this game for me was sneaking into Hyrule Castle when I had like 5 hearts and stumbling into the room with the giant skeleton.
    I died a couple times, but after using every item I had on me I barely managed to kill the boss. Then I go to the chest and BOOM there's the HYLEAN SHIELD BABY.
    Was a great little moment that while not using the mechanics creatively like you said, gave me a sense of actually discovering something in the world.

  • @shearman360
    @shearman360 5 лет назад +4

    I remember when I was low on hearts in a thunderstorm so I dropped a ton of apples on the ground and put a metal shield next to them in hopes that the lightning would cook the food.
    The lightning blasted in different directions across the map and I ended up dying shortly after due to my lack of health but it was still a fun discovery nonetheless.
    Great game 10/10

    Breath of The Wild was my first real video game. Really the only other thing I played up to that point was lego Star Wars on the wii at a friend’s house. I actually remember saving up enough money for the Wii U. I went to target with 300 dollars cash only to find out it got discounted for the switch that was releasing in a month or so. I bought the switch on release date with BoTW. I had zero idea what the game was, I went in completely blind. Probably my best gaming memory was on the plateau, going through the shrines. I can’t believe it’s been over 4 years since then. Definitely one of my favorite games.

    Rewatching after tears of the kingdom and i hope you’re enjoying totk as much as i am, elden ring was a masterpiece but there is a magical feeling about zelda that just makes it feel a lot more like reconnecting with an old friend which i think just makes the game feel like coming home after many years of college which is what im experiencing in life right now so for me totk is that game that just released at the perfect time and has really helped me with the “costco family pack” of issues im dealing with rn. Also your videos are so good man, like you probably here this a lot but just watching any of your videos gets me inspired to make art of my own. As a long time fan of yours i really appreciate you man like youre helping me out and much like from software the shit you create helps me escape and confide in someone i don’t even know lol. But i dont comment much but i just hope you’re doing good man like life is fucking dark souls on level one so i can imagine that even as someone who is influentialn to someone like me ik shit gets rough and i just wish you the best man, youre videos have brought me so much enjoyment and has helped me a lot with just being more observant and helped me focus on why these games that i love mean so much to me so i just wanted to say thank you dude like thank you so much man if anything youve helped me on my journey and i value that even if you’re a RUclipsr who will never see me or meet me i felt it necessary to dick ride you rn for how much youve helped me out dude. Keep on doin ur thing man ur newest videos are still just as quality as ur old ones. Dog bledd

    -Turn off the HUD, I regret not having done that when playing it for the first time and then I did it while playing hard mode and it was so much better.
    -Don't use fast travel, once you unlock many teleportation points you don't get the feeling of adventure anymore, it becomes tidious instead of amazing. Go on foot or by horse.
    -Use your horse and build a relationship with him, seriously, it might sound dumb but when playing I nearly never used my horse because I'd teleport everywhere and climb up shit like a madman. Don't do that, consider your horse as your partner and you'll have an incredible experience of friendship with him and it might become your best adventure ever.
    -Disable objective markers, trust me, it will make the discoveries much better and you never really need them to complete the quests, most of the time they give you enough infos to know what to do.
    -Don't try to spare as much you weapons. They will break eventually so don't end up with a billion fire sword in your inventory, just use them.
    Try not to open your map too often, use your brain, indications on the signs, listen to the villagers that give you infos on where you are. It will help you immerse yourself into the game more.
    That's pretty much it, if you've already finished the game, go buy the DLC and start the hard mode with these tips, they will give you a whole new perspective on this beautiful game.

    Jake what would you personally rate this game? in my opinion besides it's few small flaws it is still one of the finest open world experiences you can play, so it gets a 10 for me.

    • @NakeyJakey
      @NakeyJakey  7 лет назад +24

      i think and hope it's one of those games that (for a good cause) will hopefully be looked back at and be criticized because of how much BETTER new open world games were after it, because of how damn innovative it was. so right now, solid 9.8/10 for me and it gives me butterflies in my belly. but I hope in the future it just gets destroyed because the next Zelda is even crazier.

    Jakey, when you said there are spoilers, I paused the video, downloaded CEMU (WiiU emulator) and the game, I struggled to make it work for an hour and then started playing with my 5 dollar Walmart controller. Here I am, 2 weeks and 50 hours of BotW later and having defeated Ganon, I feel like this was the best game I ever played in my life. No single PC game can come close to the refinedness of this game. So, thanks for the disclaimer.

    You know your artists Are good when they manage to make a game on lets be honest not the strongest machinery, look more besutiful than any other game, 4k, photorealistic or any other shit. It shows that graphics and videogane art is more than framerate and edge smoothing. I enjoyed every minute of breath of the Wild, thank you for that Nintendo. But still waitin for knack 3 BABYY

    Serious question here: I have a PC for most of my gaming needs, but I am really interested in buying Switch or PS4 for exclusives. Switch got me interested because of this amazing Zelda and I was always interested in all the mario games, but was unable to play them. Should i go for the Switch, or PS4? Because PS4 has Uncharted series and Read Dead Redemption 2 coming up. Help me make up my mind please

    • @NakeyJakey
      @NakeyJakey  7 лет назад +11

      Honestly, I would say PS4/PS4 Pro. Between Bloodborne, The Last of Us 1 (and eventually Part 2), Uncharted games, RDR2 at launch and all the other exclusives, you'll get way more bang for your buck with a PS4. That isn't to say that getting a Switch down the road would be bad either, but as of now if the only thing drawing you to one is Zelda, then wait. Once CEMU (Wii U emulator) is working perfect on PC (assuming you have a decent graphics card) you can just play Breath of the Wild ON PC @ whatever resolution you want. But if you do that, make sure to BUY a Wii U copy of the game and don't pirate it! Trust me, it's worth every penny.
      TL:DR - Get a PS4 because you'll be able to play Zelda on PC very soon, but don't pirate it because that's not cool!

      Wow , I didn't expect a reply from the host himself, thank you very much for the detailed answer. I was watching a lot of your , dunkey and final bossman videos recently, and you guys talk a lot about Nintendo games in a positive, warm way. Its hard to explain, feels like Im missing out on a lot of different, good old fashion games, that you can only play on Nintendo systems. Anyways, looks like both systems can offer a lot of fun. Thanks again, and I just wanted to add that finding your channel was like the best thing ever, keep up the good stuff

      @@lalaikas I'm way late but if you have a decent PC, just play the Nintendo games on emulator. Both the WiiU and Switch have amazing emulators already.

      @@NakeyJakey Jake I hope you did play this on Cemu in 4k60fps with a sick graphics pack on that hot 1070 you have... it honestly makes the WiiU version look like a total injustice to the developers of the game. Cemu is the way BOTW was meant to be played.

    • @lalaikas

      With the new reply I thought I would share the latest developments with this story: so during summer 2017 I bought the switch and played Zelda, Mario kart, Mario Odyssey . They were all amazing , especially Zelda BoTW witch I consider best game of all time for me. But anyway, since I finished almost everything including DLC, and no new exclusives seemed to the horizon I went out and sold the Switch to buy a PS4 in December! I got the bundle with RDR2 because I just cannot miss out on Rockstar games, and at first it was really amazing but later on the fun kind of went out of it (repetitive missions, no freedom) and ur review also kinda opened my eyes (damn u). But anyway, still no regrets, gonna finish the game and Uncharted, Spiderman,TLOU, GOW are next in line. Thank you all for great suggestions, its strange how much happened since that comment lol

    Glad I found this channel right as I'm getting into BOTW a year and a half late. I could've gotten it way back when, but I wanted to experience it on the switch so I wouldn't have to do the kind of crazy setting up I'm sure you had to to play the game on WiiU while flying around between different states
