    I took a chance on a gjs Freestyle in the early 80s. Was a tank. This video brought me back to great memories of building mine. Sold it for money for my first apartment .

    Such a cool story! About the bike and and even more so about Sergio and his family. From a color scheme perspective I think the black z rims would look great on that bike. And I don’t want to grow up either! ❤

    The black wheels would look best in my opinion....but the peregrine wheelset would be more freestyle friendly. Tough choice!

    Had a gjs in 82. The front headset had good control but also seemed low for bmx. Rode like a quad angle, kind of like mongoose or pk ripper.. The bacl looks like the Haro freestyle frame from 1984.

    GJS!!! Holy cow, I haven’t heard that name in such a long time! This is absolute BMX gold right here! And those parts???? Oh man, I look forward to seeing this bike in person at the Austin show! This will be worth the trip from Hawaii to check it out! As for the rims, I’m gonna suggest the Z rims….love the look of those things! Thanks for sharing this!

    This is a gem!. I can't wait to see this at the BMX show in Austin. I'll bring three of my rare bird original pink 1985 haro master and orange 1985 cw California freestyle mike buff limited edition and 1988 woody iston strike zone.

    Watching from the UK . I remember seeing the GJS freestyle bikes in the magazines we could get from the USA back in the 80's . If it were me but it isn't I'd put the Z rims on the bike they just look the business . Good luck with the build guys . I just know it'll be rad what ever parts you decide to use .

      @@bmx_dreaming Hi mate . I've been looking and asking around but haven't found anyone in the UK with one so if they are here people are keeping them hidden very well . I found some on BMX museum . There's maybe 15 -20 freestylers but only 5 maybe 6 have the square chain stay .

    I raced a GJS and raced it till I got a Co-Factory ride with Panda on a Pro-Am. Good geometry on the GJS. Wish I still had it.

      I wanted a Haro back then. I took it back to my friend that gave me the GJS. We lived in Saginaw Michigan back then, I do not know what he has done with it since. Haven't spoken to or seen him since 1989.

    I had the ACS stem the flight cranks , dia comp brakes and z rims on a 86 redline 20ii . I loved that bike I am still mad at myself for selling it. I sold it on eBay in 2003 for 600 bucks ! It’s probably worth six thousand now lol

    Its very cool for sure, however not as rare as one may think. GJS did make more of these, I have seen one or two of them at bike shows. I think Surgar Cayne also has a BMX show that he had videoed as well, but non the less a very cool bike,

    Id probably say the Elf Freestyle frame or the first powerlite freestyle frames are a bit more rare than the GJS. Still an awesome and rare whip though.

    it’s a prototype!!!!! > they never even made a real bike with it! SO it has NO PLACE in our memories & arguably no place in BMX history! Not to take away from the story, but its only special because it’s sentimental to one family! & good for them! Also, i don’t see how its Special for BMX, especially if there was only less than 10 other models in Europe & NOT EVEN IN THE US, when BMX was BORN IN USA!

    I sold mine to a guy in Australia 😢 years ago.....what were the actual production numbers? And I heard that Jeff Utterback did all of the welding on those himself? Is that true?

    I own a g js I believe it's somewhere from an 83 to an 84 it has a lot of square tubing built-in peg extensions it was originally pink and purple but was stolen later recovered and repainted the only other identifying mark on the is the serial number f 350 if anyone out there has any information it would be

    Idk if it's a common thing you do or not. But cutting out 1 or 2 sec pauses in people speaking slow to shorten the run time is not a good idea. It's making the video look broken and skipping, and even realizing it's not, viewers won't be able to prevent having that reaction. It's not worth the number of cuts just to save 2 or 3 mins. I honestly don't know if I'll get through the whole 18 minutes if it all the way thru.

    Hate to say this guy’s, but there’s a rarer bike than this. THE rarest Bmx freestyle bike ever made that was featured in magazines and everything. The Uni Crossfire Bmx complete bike. Same company that did the “ Turbo” seats “ G’Nades” grips ,Crossfire wheel covers,& crossfire plates. Plus the big fat Uni pegs.

      @@bmx_dreaming the way it was described to me is a graphite composite frame molded over lightweight metal subframe made of thin metal rods. It’s been since the early 80s since I read the article so I can’t remember the specific details.

      Yeah I think his “dayglow pink NOS GT “87” team model is a better looking bike. But then again you have every production color of 87-88 GT’s and may others you tend to collect for uniqueness 🙌🏽😎 Go my video of the “Texas round up ATX” you’ll see this was built up 🥇

    I had to sell my entire collection of fifty-two, 70s-80s BMX bikes to pay my mortgage after losing my job to an injury 😢.
    I can't shake the need for rebuilding my collection.
    In my sale, I lost my original childhood GT Dyno compe in pink. 😮
    I have nightmares of being in garages filled with old skool bikes and then I wake up!!
