They actually made me care more about the character due to how much I like the figure. Hopefully you will have a better experience with XTBs version.
I'm fine with my Fanstoys version since I got the reissue a few months back for my birthday. The X-transbots version looks good but it's not worth swapping out my Koot. But it's good to have options for newcomers though so that's a plus.
They both look amazing!! I think it a tie! But I think the Xtransbots has as an Abcrunch..so that maybe the tie breaker. Personally IMO the biggest difference is the color. Eventhough I have the Fanstoys am still getting the Xtransbots. As always great video Mike! 🌟
Do you still feel the same now that it's turned out you need a SECOND trailer to complete Fanstoys Menasor, a full FT Menasor will cost you about 1500 bucks, and it's 2024 and we still don't have a complete team of Stunticons, let alone a full Menasor? I went with the FT Stunticons myself because I think the figures look gorgeous, but (although I hate Motormaster's transformation and find his lack of articulation really disappointing for such an expensive figure), but I can't say there haven't been moments where I really regretted this decision.
Man... I been thinking this over ever since I got the email about this X-transbots Kup.... I already have the Fanstoys one, and I really love it. But I do really like the colors and look of this new one... the price is a bit high, but it is intriguing. I could have one to keep in truck mode and one in robot mode I guess... Especially considering I have transformed Koot maybe once (I think...) because he is way complicated... Awesome vid as always!
Koot's splitted chest is a problem! Also for the faction symbol in alt mode. Also, an MP back should also be toon accurate! XTB clearly wins in sculpt.
I had the FT version. Ended up selling it. The transformation was miserable and the chest split was just too ugly of a design choice. I'll pick this XTB version up. It seems to do everything as well or better and isn't overpriced for a Kup figure.
They need to get that Gosh Damn Trailer OUT before ANY of this other stuff! Feel like I got a con job done on me for their Menasaur..Freaking Rediculous Mike..smh

As a G1 head from day 1, I always like the backpacks on my warriors. It made them more believable as functional soldiers. As long as it wasn’t too big or distracting. As for the bot comparison, I like Xtransbots body better and Fanstoys head sculpt.

I think the added target master was a attempt to show value for the price. Of course we know better. Just like you have said before if your coming in late you need to be perfect. I’ll be keeping my Koot I think.
Ehh. Whoever got the Hasbro version of MP09 Rodimus Prime got what amounted to a glorified Targetmaster Hot Rod; the "Offshoot" figure wound up with a different paint job and a minor retool of the gun handle for robot mode when Takara did the real MP40 Targetmaster Hot Rod. On the flip side, I think it's pretty true that not that many folks went in on buying that one.
hey Mike! just placed my order at showZ! with the issue of "reference material" coming up every now and then, perhaps it might be time to settle it once and for all with a video! (and survey).... as for myself, I've always considered the G1 movie the "end all, be all" when it came to G1 accuracy...though I'll be more forgiving with the dinobots, (just me personal bias) and it's Locke over Koot all day long, paint is a wash (no pun intended), i just love Xtransbots' sculpt much more
It's absolutely NOT FAIR that they released those pics of the "poorly painted prototype" because as you said as a result a figure I was really excited about I completely wrote off; I bought an FT-22 as a result of those prototype photos and while I do truly love him I feel kind of robbed as I really really like this XTB Locke and that he comes with 2 headmasters and a Sharkticon tail. I payed 250 AUD for my FT-22 (not sure of the conversion rate to USD) which was a great deal but I kinda think 160 USD might be a better price point and Locke looks AMAZING
At an insane price... I'm in on the FT Menasor but if they are gonna pull sh*t like this then I'm going to sell off the whole team and just concentrate on individual characters.
I really like this Locke and will likely buy him but i hate that XTB has been increasing prices so much lately. Dr. Egg was the harbinger of wallet doom, Locke is more expensive and now it looks like Virtus is even going to have a drastic jump in price soon too. When i first PO'd Virtus he was ~$123 at ShowZ and now they no longer list the price so a change is coming. It's all very disappointing. It's getting hard to keep up. I started collecting at the worst damn time. 😭
Okay, bitching about prices aside. I think Locke is every bit as good as Koot. Locke has the better face sculpt(s) than Koot, better backpack and accessories. Koot has the color i more associate with Kup and his midsection is cleaner but everything else is basically a push. They're both strong in different ways and IMO you can't go wrong either way. I have Koot already and will gladly add Locke next to him, despite the price.
I do wonder how ShowZ will handle the price increase as I prepaid mine on a huge sale that required full payment which is the only reason I paid in advance in full. Yes Dr. Egg was the harbinger of wallet doom!

It was still listed as $123 in my PO list and i figured it was worth a shot to pay it off now to avoid the higher price. I'm also wondering if they will try to demand more money because i'm guessing they are going to go full Dr. Egg pricing on him at $175. I hope ShowZ honors the price for those of us who paid early.
Cant wait for a comparison when this figure is finally out. It looks nice. Vehicle mode is cool too,doesnt have the feet sticking out like Koot. I feel Xtransbots should have been at this point like two years ago with Kup and their Omnibots.Its awkward in a way that they are the only real competition to FT.

With the stronger head sculpt and better proportions (except for the chest) I’ll stay with Koot. Xtb might have compelled me to get another if they could have kept the price down but I’m feeling the burn on Dr. Egg and I only paid $150 for him. Though I hope xtb will be able to compete at fanstoys level, I feel like they are still a cut below and to win me over their prices need to reflect that. Otherwise I have no reason to choose them over fanstoys. Still waiting for Virtus! Hope he’s superior and can be my first xtb to replace a fanstoys.
I picked up the 1st issue of koot for around $80, so I'm good. I will say though, that if I didn't already have FansToys then this XTB version definitely looks pretty good. And it would be hard to pass on. If the materials are great, and the transformation isn't a bear; the XTB Kup might be arguably better.
Hmm..kinda splitting hairs between these two. Comes down to flavor if you ask me, FT is a more statuesque/old styled character. XTB seems more spry/dynamic interpretation of the character.
I have koot but I will definitely be copping xtransbots offering. I especially like the colours and the backpack. The only thing I don't like is the addition of side windows in his alt mode... they just don't look right. I'm not surprised about the price hike at all - this hobby is getting ridiculously expensive. Lmao I may have to take a second mortgage on my home in order to complete my collection
I prefer the fanstoys but I would get the xtransbots but they just priced themselves out wonder if there taking advantage since koot is so high in secondary market 🤔
If they could release him without the target masters and replace the tail with the energon chewing gum box thing for around $100, I'd be more than down for this.
I'm with you, just send out the Springer (aka Virtus) instead of announcing and working on these other figures. It's been 3years! I'm still keeping my koot, and would maybe give the xtransbots a chance if it doesn't take as long to receive as it has been with others, and the colors were more toon 'accurate' as Koot is.
I prefer face swap to head swap. There's a chance a different face can be stowed somewhere in the figure so I don't have to dig through all the accessory boxes.
@@tydiriumhanger1320 MP Sunstreaker: tuck them in the backpack near the license plate or put them in the back of the car. Thomas: put it in the arm in bot mode or under his face in alt modes. Sovereign: his matrix and face can fit in the chest in bot mode and a leg in alt mode. Many of them have it if you look hard enough!
People complaining about the price.. do a price check on Koot right now, new.. he's out of stock everywhere, the stores that do have him, have him at $179, on the secondary market he's hitting even higher, yes, he was a lot cheaper when he was released. So those that have him, sure, I get it you don't want to buy the same character for like 70 bucks more. But for those that don't have a Kup figure, I see no issue with the price. It's probably comparable to whatever Takara would charge for one of theirs. XTB figure seems a lot cleaner, less of a backpack, and isn't the colour of seaweed lol
I have the fans toys kup and I actually think it’s fans toys best figure they’ve ever put out. But I’m still buying the xtransbots one because I think the xtransbots looks good also. I’ll have two lips on a shelf. I’m definitely not a collector that needs only one representation of a character. I have 4 springers and three arcee and sixshots. So the more the merrier.
I think X-trans will make a good product; I'm leaning towards them; for me price, transformation and overall looks are very important; most important "transformation" I hope X-trans is more enjoyable.
After X-Transbots basically proved themselves as liars by releasing a 230 trailer and instead of including accessories as they promised and decided to sell them separately for 75 bucks its all Fans Toys for me from here on out. The price of the trailer doesn't bother me. Its being strung along with promises they probably never were going to keep that sucks.
Man, I was so in on Locke. I had my FT that I would have sold in the aftermarket to make a few bucks and buy the lesser priced, or what I thought would have been the lesser priced Kup. But 160? The official has not even gone that nuts yet with a carbot. And I was in on the Quintessons too. But 175, F that. for essentially a statue with a few low grade electronics. Like literally, what are we paying for with that one with the NO engineering that went into it.
Might sell Koot. I prefer only one version of anything in my collection. The 2’s that I have include, cliffjumper, Mirage, Blurr, Megs, and Breakdown(3). They were all just to much to my liking. 🙂
Everytime I see Takara's Hot Rod, my eyes hurt. How did they fuck up that mold so much? Easily the most flawed official MP....until they went and fucked up even more with Arcee. I hope Locke scales well with Hoodlum and Rogue. But really Xtransbots should make their own season 3 cast, instead of trying to build off of Takara's.
No dog in this race here, but I think I like Koot more. Much better head sculpt and I like the color more. Locke is still a nice looking figure though, can't go wrong either way,.
I always go with the original movie look when i picture kup.......im still waitin for x transbots to release this guy......i pre paid for him when it was first offered for pre order......i dont know how your dealing with waithing for springer this long.....
I don't have a Kup other than my chug for my chug. I like the xtransbot but not the colors. Would I buy it no, it doesn't look the price asked? no. If they ask for 80 to 90 I could consider but still no I wouldn't. Would I buy fans toys for less? No, I'm not a kup fan and since no design amazes me I find it easier to just wait on Takara. Pretty sure it will be like the Sunstreaker case where Takara goes all out beating the competition. By then I would have saved enough instead of spending on everything just to fill a void. Arcee on the other hand is a fail by Takara, there is still room for a better version outside of Takara.
To me it's the 86 movie that is the definitive Kup, both versions look very good but I've gotta give it to XTB for better accuracy IMHO. FT does have the better head though
Both of them are very good, X-Transbots seems to have more articulation points but, in my opinion, Fans Toys looks a bit better. I have the Fans Toys one and since they are so close I wont trade it for the X-Transbots one.
Disappointing- I was hoping that you would compare him to movie stills as the movie animation is of a higher standard and because it's usually where the love for these later characters began for many of us. Oh well- I'll have to do it myself. I held off on fanstoys because I want the best version and this one had potential. Gonna wait for more videos but so far I'll probably get locke mainly because he doesn't look fresh and new like the fanstoys version. Guys meant to be old and worn
Considering how much Kup reminds me of Kryten from Red Dwarf having spare faces is disappointing. I would display him with sparehead 1 sparehead 2 and sparehead 3 sitting behind him heckling him as he fought off the sweeps.
Let’s to get more reality, Ft came out years before XTB, that’s makes XTB suppose to be a better version since they can study about Ft version and to make improvements based on it. And this is very usual in 3p companies: whoever have the later version will able to make a better version, not always but often. But with the quality issues of the XTB version, that’s a fail

I have Koot, I think Koot is better, but I am thinking about buying this one too and keep both. Only the price is way too high, I mean it is more than what I paid for Koot, and more than a lot of official masterpieces. Then I saw the new trailer for menasor, and I was like OK... I can do that, but then I saw they have an accessory pack for 75 dollars, but it always look liked they would include that with one package, so now I have to pay 300 dollars for everything. That is called screwing with your fanbase. (Letting us buy all the figures and than asking 300 dollars extra to complete menasor)
Funny how neither FT nor XTB got the color right. SMH. I guess we can just say our monitor color is off and whichever one got it right. I like the XTB color better but when I think of Kup I think of greenish blue more than blue. Neither one of them got the tone of the arms right either: both make Kup look like a small armed guy when the animation gives him larger arms.
@@christopherransom9290 looks like XTB and FT are going to be price gouging the "fans" they're catering to. I can see this fandom reaching into the stratosphere with prices going out of control. That clear FT Phoenix is already testing the market with it's half a grand price for one figure. This is only going to get worse and I don't know if us little people can afford these going forward. I don't know how some people are able to afford everything that comes out unless they make six figures and can live comfortably.
Sticking with Koot. If I did not have either of these two and looking to add a Kup to my collection...I would pay the EBay tax and get Koot. X-Transbots is probably my least favorite company.
After seeing the new photos of this guy he looks far better than the initial images showed. But, for me, I don't see him as a replacement for Kup, not even close. The first thing that I noticed, is that he has the same feature that some of the other XT Bots use, and that's a folded panel that sits atop the shoulders attaching to the base of his neck. It doesn't look natural and really throws off his appearance. Additionally, the transformation of his torso looks especially messy. His legs and hips actually look pretty good, but the torso / abdomen area looks like a folded mess of panels with severe panel gaps. See the close up a 5:00 and compare that to Kup. Don't get me wrong he's a decent figure, but to say he's better than Kup, is more than a stretch.
I'm just going to say it: Kup's alt mode has always been pretty lame. Love the character and all he represents, but that truck always had an unfinished vibe to me.
I hear you. That's the exact reason I haven't transformed my Koot (yet). His alt mode has always felt uninspired to me. Same with Galvatron; love the character, can't care for the altmode.
Kup is absolutely my favorite of all the transformers..I don't like the x-transbot kup to me it doesn't match the movie kup..fantoys, to me nail kup..in the front and especially the face..not to much in the back but I really don't pay much attention to the back..but in mp-44 the winner goes to te-01 he to me is much better in the back..I am not going to get x-transbot kup..his face and front and legs are terrible to me..x-transbot springer and fantoys blitzwing is what I am waiting for..fantoys kup is the winner to me..
I would have like to see the comparison with movie pictures of Kup, maybe that's what the two companies were going for? Maybe? Great... Now I have to pull out the movie..... Gives me an excuse to watch it again to wifey😏

I currently don’t have a Kup. I’m all in on XTransbots Locke. I love that he comes with a targetmaster for MP-28, of which I have not purchased yet.

Got Locke ordered and coming in in a couple of weeks
Both look great and I own Koot but this is probably the first XTB figure I've seen that personally catches my interest.
I have been in on XTB for some time now since Apollyon but they are hit and miss. I hope these days are all hits!

Hmm..kinda splitting hairs between these two. Comes down to flavor if you ask me, FT is a more statuesque/old styled character. XTB seems more spry/dynamic interpretation of the character.
I agree, I think I like the broader, more heroic chest and shoulder proportions on the FT.
I have the Ft. For me to make a switch it has to be light years better. Xtb though looks great! Is it 50 to 80% better then Ft no.

I have koot but I will definitely be copping xtransbots offering. I especially like the colours and the backpack. The only thing I don't like is the addition of side windows in his alt mode... they just don't look right. I'm not surprised about the price hike at all - this hobby is getting ridiculously expensive. Lmao I may have to take a second mortgage on my home in order to complete my collection
Well I thought XTB would have at least matched Koot for the reissue price of $130! Sadly no.
I prefer the fanstoys but I would get the xtransbots but they just priced themselves out wonder if there taking advantage since koot is so high in secondary market 🤔
If they could release him without the target masters and replace the tail with the energon chewing gum box thing for around $100, I'd be more than down for this.
Koot is cool. If I didn’t have a version of Kup I would choose the XTB version.
I'm with you, just send out the Springer (aka Virtus) instead of announcing and working on these other figures. It's been 3years! I'm still keeping my koot, and would maybe give the xtransbots a chance if it doesn't take as long to receive as it has been with others, and the colors were more toon 'accurate' as Koot is.
I prefer face swap to head swap. There's a chance a different face can be stowed somewhere in the figure so I don't have to dig through all the accessory boxes.
Face storage would be awesome!

Thomas: put it in the arm in bot mode or under his face in alt modes.
Sovereign: his matrix and face can fit in the chest in bot mode and a leg in alt mode.

People complaining about the price.. do a price check on Koot right now, new.. he's out of stock everywhere, the stores that do have him, have him at $179, on the secondary market he's hitting even higher, yes, he was a lot cheaper when he was released. So those that have him, sure, I get it you don't want to buy the same character for like 70 bucks more. But for those that don't have a Kup figure, I see no issue with the price. It's probably comparable to whatever Takara would charge for one of theirs. XTB figure seems a lot cleaner, less of a backpack, and isn't the colour of seaweed lol
I have the fans toys kup and I actually think it’s fans toys best figure they’ve ever put out. But I’m still buying the xtransbots one because I think the xtransbots looks good also. I’ll have two lips on a shelf. I’m definitely not a collector that needs only one representation of a character. I have 4 springers and three arcee and sixshots. So the more the merrier.
I think X-trans will make a good product; I'm leaning towards them; for me price, transformation and overall looks are very important; most important "transformation" I hope X-trans is more enjoyable.
Even if we want FT Koot, it's near impossible to get, at least here in Asia. Or any Fans Toys stuff, for that matter...
They both are great figures. If I didn't have Koot, I'd definitely get the X-transbots version!

After X-Transbots basically proved themselves as liars by releasing a 230 trailer and instead of including accessories as they promised and decided to sell them separately for 75 bucks its all Fans Toys for me from here on out. The price of the trailer doesn't bother me. Its being strung along with promises they probably never were going to keep that sucks.

Man, I was so in on Locke. I had my FT that I would have sold in the aftermarket to make a few bucks and buy the lesser priced, or what I thought would have been the lesser priced Kup. But 160? The official has not even gone that nuts yet with a carbot. And I was in on the Quintessons too. But 175, F that. for essentially a statue with a few low grade electronics. Like literally, what are we paying for with that one with the NO engineering that went into it.
Might sell Koot. I prefer only one version of anything in my collection. The 2’s that I have include, cliffjumper, Mirage, Blurr, Megs, and Breakdown(3). They were all just to much to my liking. 🙂

I have Fantoys and have no need for another Kup. Mine is just fine.
Everytime I see Takara's Hot Rod, my eyes hurt. How did they fuck up that mold so much? Easily the most flawed official MP....until they went and fucked up even more with Arcee.
I hope Locke scales well with Hoodlum and Rogue. But really Xtransbots should make their own season 3 cast, instead of trying to build off of Takara's.
No dog in this race here, but I think I like Koot more. Much better head sculpt and I like the color more. Locke is still a nice looking figure though, can't go wrong either way,.

I always go with the original movie look when i picture kup.......im still waitin for x transbots to release this guy......i pre paid for him when it was first offered for pre order......i dont know how your dealing with waithing for springer this long.....
The long wait for Springer is not too bad as I have Fanstoys and the Open play version
I don't have a Kup other than my chug for my chug. I like the xtransbot but not the colors. Would I buy it no, it doesn't look the price asked? no. If they ask for 80 to 90 I could consider but still no I wouldn't. Would I buy fans toys for less? No, I'm not a kup fan and since no design amazes me I find it easier to just wait on Takara. Pretty sure it will be like the Sunstreaker case where Takara goes all out beating the competition. By then I would have saved enough instead of spending on everything just to fill a void. Arcee on the other hand is a fail by Takara, there is still room for a better version outside of Takara.

To me it's the 86 movie that is the definitive Kup, both versions look very good but I've gotta give it to XTB for better accuracy IMHO. FT does have the better head though
Both of them are very good, X-Transbots seems to have more articulation points but, in my opinion, Fans Toys looks a bit better. I have the Fans Toys one and since they are so close I wont trade it for the X-Transbots one.

Disappointing- I was hoping that you would compare him to movie stills as the movie animation is of a higher standard and because it's usually where the love for these later characters began for many of us. Oh well- I'll have to do it myself. I held off on fanstoys because I want the best version and this one had potential. Gonna wait for more videos but so far I'll probably get locke mainly because he doesn't look fresh and new like the fanstoys version. Guys meant to be old and worn
Considering how much Kup reminds me of Kryten from Red Dwarf having spare faces is disappointing. I would display him with sparehead 1 sparehead 2 and sparehead 3 sitting behind him heckling him as he fought off the sweeps.
I think I will stick with Fantoys but xtransbots looks pretty good. I love the color and the vehicle mode.
I have had Fanstoys so long it shifted my belief of what the character should look like. Had to go back to the toon to re-calibrate.

Let’s to get more reality, Ft came out years before XTB, that’s makes XTB suppose to be a better version since they can study about Ft version and to make improvements based on it. And this is very usual in 3p companies: whoever have the later version will able to make a better version, not always but often. But with the quality issues of the XTB version, that’s a fail
I was going to get Locke but at that price I will pass, same with their non-quintesson. Locke looks good but XTB ain't worth FT price. I already have Koot and think he is awesome looking.
I have Koot, I think Koot is better, but I am thinking about buying this one too and keep both. Only the price is way too high, I mean it is more than what I paid for Koot, and more than a lot of official masterpieces. Then I saw the new trailer for menasor, and I was like OK... I can do that, but then I saw they have an accessory pack for 75 dollars, but it always look liked they would include that with one package, so now I have to pay 300 dollars for everything. That is called screwing with your fanbase.
(Letting us buy all the figures and than asking 300 dollars extra to complete menasor)
Funny how neither FT nor XTB got the color right. SMH. I guess we can just say our monitor color is off and whichever one got it right. I like the XTB color better but when I think of Kup I think of greenish blue more than blue. Neither one of them got the tone of the arms right either: both make Kup look like a small armed guy when the animation gives him larger arms.
Both look good, so just go for the cheaper version.

@@christopherransom9290 looks like XTB and FT are going to be price gouging the "fans" they're catering to. I can see this fandom reaching into the stratosphere with prices going out of control. That clear FT Phoenix is already testing the market with it's half a grand price for one figure. This is only going to get worse and I don't know if us little people can afford these going forward. I don't know how some people are able to afford everything that comes out unless they make six figures and can live comfortably.
I think they are the same price on showz so theres no difference in price, in fact fanstoys might be cheaper!

That is a good point that some characters do not mean as much hence any option will do.
Koot vehicle mode looks way better IMO. The XTB vehicle looks like a blue turd with so many breaklines.
Sticking with Koot. If I did not have either of these two and looking to add a Kup to my collection...I would pay the EBay tax and get Koot. X-Transbots is probably my least favorite company.

After seeing the new photos of this guy he looks far better than the initial images showed. But, for me, I don't see him as a replacement for Kup, not even close. The first thing that I noticed, is that he has the same feature that some of the other XT Bots use, and that's a folded panel that sits atop the shoulders attaching to the base of his neck. It doesn't look natural and really throws off his appearance. Additionally, the transformation of his torso looks especially messy. His legs and hips actually look pretty good, but the torso / abdomen area looks like a folded mess of panels with severe panel gaps. See the close up a 5:00 and compare that to Kup. Don't get me wrong he's a decent figure, but to say he's better than Kup, is more than a stretch.
Yes that panel mess should translate to a better transformation.....unless I am wrong!
I'm just going to say it: Kup's alt mode has always been pretty lame. Love the character and all he represents, but that truck always had an unfinished vibe to me.
I hear you. That's the exact reason I haven't transformed my Koot (yet). His alt mode has always felt uninspired to me. Same with Galvatron; love the character, can't care for the altmode.
Fans toys stays in alt mode. It does it better.

Kup is absolutely my favorite of all the transformers..I don't like the x-transbot kup to me it doesn't match the movie kup..fantoys, to me nail kup..in the front and especially the face..not to much in the back but I really don't pay much attention to the back..but in mp-44 the winner goes to te-01 he to me is much better in the back..I am not going to get x-transbot kup..his face and front and legs are terrible to me..x-transbot springer and fantoys blitzwing is what I am waiting for..fantoys kup is the winner to me..
FT Koot is a nice looking bot and can not believe I passed on him at first. There are good points to both!
