It's like people forget that the PS5 Pro isn't replacing the PS5. It's meant to give "super" fans and tech heads a higher performing option. If you don't care about ray tracing or 4k60, you DON'T NEED a PS5 Pro.
Know who will buy this? Fanboys like that youtuber who bragged about buying all the 1st party games for full price but was annoyed they denied him a refund.

Paying beyond $500 for a console is a sin. Locked into a very restrictive ecosystem, paid online, no free cloud saves(MS is free...), stick drift prone controllers, only access to the games & services they want you to access, no refund policy!!!! And can price hike at will and blame inflation.

I think $700 is pretty reasonable tbh. They have to adjust for inflation just like everyone else is doing. $700 isn't as much as it used to be a few years ago. If $700 is too much for you to pay for, then just stick with the based ps5 . The $700 price point is just for the people that is willing to pay for more power and better performance. The ps5 pro is really nothing more than just a option if you're the type of person that want the best performance in a console with a reasonable value. I'm definitely going to buy the ps5 pro and I think $700 is a pretty fair price especially with what's under the hood.
Its a luxury item, its also priced for its tech. Can you buy a pc with the same capabilities for 700? Absolutely not. Is there a pro switch or pro series whatever? Again no. Not to mention inflation. Houses are too expensive, food is, everything is isnt it.
Actually you can make a very decent pc with 700 bucks probably more powerful than ps5. Remember you don't need a rtx 4070 or whatever for a gaming pc those cards are for commercial uses not luxury.

I will ask you another question in return : "is Playstation giving the same benefits as PC does"??? All the access to Steam, Epicgames, GOG etc, access to Gamepass, emulators, mods etc??? Also multiuse function of PC that's not meant only for gaming. You can do a lot of stuff on PC you can't on Playstation.
If Playstation is giving me all that, I'm ready to spend even 1000 dollars. But Playstation is not giving me all that. Even Playstation is slowly porting many of its big IPs on PC. Helldivers 2 released on PC day one. Final fantasy is coming to PC. So my point is 700 dollars for just a Playstation seems ridiculous when you compare it to something like a PC that is so much value for money. Also to answer your question you can build a decent PC with 700-800 dollars that can run 90-95% of the games coming out.

The ps4 pro was 450, the ps5 disc was 500 when it released. Realistically, the ps6 will also be in the 700 dollars range

In your recent livestream today, how can you defend or dismiss Sony's extortionate practices with the PS5 Pro. I cannot understand how anyone can justify it, the console is too expensive, and Sony must be called out about it, be sent a message that we are not ok with it.
I normally agree with most of your takes, and think they are reasonable enough most times, but I cannot agree on this one.
On a side note, why does Sony have a weird thing about exchange rates nowadays, as in why do they treat British Pounds the exact same value as American Dollars, when they are not valued the same

The price isn't surprising to a lot of people cause of how the cost of components have gone up and unlike previous generations where the cost of manufacturing went down which meant prices of consoles went down.
The cost of manufacturing in this generation of consoles have gone up and companies are to raise prices not lowering them.
No company in their right minds will take a hit for the customers and release updated hardware for lower cost no company.
Heck i fully expect PS6 to be at least 600 or more same as the next Xbox as well will cost as much too imo. I also fully expect the Nintendo Switch to be at least 450 to 500.
It's the same for PCs too as the AMD/Nvidia GPU's are way, way overpriced for what they can do and the next generation of them are going to be even more expensive.
Until the companies that make all the components lower their prices the higher prices for consoles and PC GPU's are here to stay sadly.

$700 more dollars for 30 more fps in fidelity mode. If PS5 pro performance mode offered 120 in all games this would be a great mid gen upgrade. If only we got fidelity mode 60FPS and performance mode 120FPS. I’m hoping PS6 will be fidelity mode 120FPS and performance 144FPS. You are correct,
PlayStation 5 should be able output, True 8K at 120fps, and True 4K also at 120fps. No compromise.
Machine output is less than 4K, less than 8K, at 60pfs, 120fps.
The truth is, false advertising, misleading others to think the machine is capable of True 8K, True 4K, 120 HDR, without loss of image quality rendering, sold for $400/$500.
PlayStation 5 Pro is now correcting some of this false advertisement for the Original PlayStation 5, as many Gamers complain, inadequate image quality at 60fps.
PlayStation 5 Pro, will not be able to output True 8K at 60fps/120fps, or True 4K at 60fps/120fps, and is not worth $700.
PlayStation 5 Pro is the same cheaper to manufacture PlayStation 5 Slim in different case, and is only worth $400.

I am pretty sure I spent over $1,000 on the PS5 originally after the headset, the remote, the camera, extra storage, and a few games.

How did they think this would work out well? The industry has to admit they have failed at game development. Entire Genres have disappeared. We need Games. We need REASONS to want a new console. They should look back at the PS1-PS2 game libraries and let those games inspire them and get them back to doing what they did during those eras of games. We need 2D, 2.5D, 3D, low poly PS1 style, 2d animation style, cell shaded, sports & Xtreme sports we just need GAMES! It worked then and it will work now. That approach to gaming will always work in gaming, so it's pretty ridiculous how our MODERN gaming industry has lost the plot as much as they have. People mention indie games and we do have indie games BUT 99% are only available on PC and on Steam.. and most indie games are not available on consoles. So consoles are not tapping into the indie game market..

For the longest time Sony has shown they don't really care about their customers. None of the companies care but they've shown such an ease in taking advantage. I know MS added BC due to being in last place but they did it and did it for FREE. Whenever we bring this up the fanboys say "PS3 is too hard to emulate". No called greedy lazy Sony doesn't care.

I've been sick of them for the past five years. Bored with their same old same old games, annoyed with the price hikes under the lie of inflation, sick of their fanboys excusing all the crap they pull & the only reason I don't have an xbox is due to the insult of a 90 day controller warranty & not caring about Nintendo since the GameCube.
Ubisoft makes games nobody wants, meanwhile the ps5 will hit near 80 million sold and games like wolverine and ghost of tsushima 2 will sell 10+ million copies.
If you are still using a PS4 there is a not insignificant chance you can't afford a PS5 so making it even more expensive ain't going to have people eyeing the PS5 Pro Model.
While everybody is fighting over the price of the ps5 pro, at the back of my mind I am like - so ps4 pro came out at $399.99 and the nintendo switch at $299.99, does that mean that switch 2 will be $599? 😬 (but even $499 is crazy for a nintendo machine, but I bet you'll validate that price 😅)
PS5 Pro is not a "premium" console... a premium console would come fully loaded with a disk drive, vertical stand, unique design and possibly even a pro controller

I really hope that barely anyone buys this at launch so Sony is forced to slash the price. I've been a long-term subscriber, MBG, and I'll stay subscribed, but as someone who has a pretty big presence on this platform for PlayStation news, I hope you understand that you may have some influence on how Sony handles this backlash. The PS5 Pro is 700 US dollars without a stand or a disk drive. And it's even more expensive in other countries. Defending this type of pricing is not cool, man.

Bro, I love your channel but your math is bad. The digital slim is 400 a digital pro is 700. That’s like a 75% increase.
Most people are completely missing something. RDNA 4 will be coming to the PS5 Pro for the first time ever and AMD will release the RDNA 4 next year for the first time for the RX 8000, which is more powerful than the RTX 4090. The fact is that RDNA 4 will come to the PS5 Pro first and will be released for PC consumers in 2025.
That is the main reason why the PS5 Pro is quite expensive. You need to understand that the RDNA 4 architecture for the PS5 Pro is very costly to produce. The only thing we don't know is how much clock frequency the PS5 Pro will use and we also don't know what the PS5’s RDNA 4 will be equivalent to in terms of graphics. It might be slightly higher than the RTX 4090 or it might be at the same level as the RX 8000, but we don't know. AMD hasn't fully confirmed it yet.

One major point they seem to be missing here...
I have the OG disc drive PS5. Not only is the disc drive non-removeable, but it's also incompatible with the Pro, as opposed to the revised model. The only way this makes sense to me is to sell my OG PS5 to get the Pro.

Many consumers forget that parts for current consoles are expensive, around the world economic and currency value is on a all time low and sony this time around wants to make profit. I think it’s going to do great tbh, people are complaining but will happily spend $700 on a graphics card for their PC that will do the same thing. Give me a break lol. Console gamers that want good performance and graphics are going to buy this and I think it will do just as well as the ps4 pro. The people crying about the price are just not who this is marketed towards and that’s fine. Everything is not for everybody. If it’s not for you just sit down be quiet and enjoy your base ps5.
Everyone who’s complaining about the price of the PS5 Pro really need a reality check.
Looking at the specs of this machine, it’s going to be performing at similar level to a 4070 Super, in both rasterisation and ray-tracing, and that is a £620 graphic card alone.
The machine then also comes with a significant upgrade (28%) to the RAM and throughput speed, and you’re also getting 2TB of storage as well , which is double what you get on the base PS5. That is at least another £200 plus worth of components too.
Then add in the price of the motherboard, the cooling system and other components, along with all the production costs, then the price is actually pretty fair.
The only area without a significant improvement is the CPU, but even there you’re still getting a slight boost bringing it up to similar performance of the Xbox series X.
I only really see one genuine complaint, that it isn’t shipping with a disc drive, or at least have an option for a bundle containing both with a slight discount compared to being bought separately.
I genuinely do not understand what people were expecting, the PS4 Pro came out at a similar price to the PS4, yet people didn’t buy it (myself included), because the performance gains weren’t good enough, and that was because Sony concentrated on getting the box out at an affordable price.
Clearly that strategy wasn’t successful so this time around Sony have obviously recognised who are their target audience is, and made it more expensive, but with a genuine and substantial upgrade.
Why is it that only in the gaming community, I continually see people acting like entitled crybabies, pocket watching others, and constantly trying to tell other people what they should spend THEIR money on.
Most of which are the same people who are happy to spend extra on their Phone, i.e. they’re people who will choose to upgrade to an iPhone Pro Max just to have a bigger screen, or they’re the same people who will continuously pay £1000 plus to upgrade their graphics card every three years; Yet for some reason, those exact same people act as though us console players who can afford it, shouldn’t be allowed to do the same.
This is not a priority machine, it is targeted at two audiences, i.e. people like myself who only play on console, but don’t want to have to choose between quality or performance, and high-end PC players, who don’t want to wait for first party PlayStation titles.
P.S. Where was the outrage for the £600 digital only Xbox Series X, which comes with no upgrades at all, other than 2TB of storage.

A pretty big reach assuming that gamers spend 1000 dollars every year on an iPhone but I get where you’re coming from and I appreciate your level of reasoning. However, Sony does not pay anywhere near msrp for these components, especially their APU’s. So while I understand you trying to equate the cost of the console to the market price of a standard gpu, it’s an irrelevant comparison because Sony is paying far less for the components anyway. Also, they’ve essentially put the cart before the horse in terms of not properly showcasing the capabilities of the console with newer, more demanding titles.. U don’t role out a new console and showcase 4 year old exclusives that people have beaten a dozen times already, one of which(tlou2) has been released twice in 3 years. I imagine they’ll market this with some sort of gta6 gameplay showcase down the line, but as of now there is no “this is why u need a pro” title to help facilitate marketing hence the strong negative reaction.
The market for this thing is razor thin. PC players will not spend 700-1000 to play a Sony game that might come out once every year or two and will hit pc either day and date or 1-3 years later. It would take for Sony to show a plethora of GROUNDBREAKING first party title for pc players to entertain the pro. More than likely they’ll just put that money toward upgrades. PS4 players weren’t interested in paying 500 for the ps5 so they definitely won’t gravitate to the pro. The only real market for the pro imo is current ps5 owners who are struggling through games like space marine 2 and wukong. The ps5 is genuinely having a hard time with those titles but because the ps5 is still in production they don’t want to undermine the console. This is understandable but again, it sells the pro short in terms of showing what it can do.
Ultimately I think the rollout of the pro is making more and more ps player look at pc. I’m currently building one and guys like gamer 2323 are seriously considering it as well. Why not just pay a bit more, have a more powerful gaming rig than the pro , be in an ecosystem that allows u to truly be autonomous with no boundaries around software or hardware, have access to mods and have full modularity in terms of upgrading parts.
Lastly, Sony should’ve absolutely included the disc drive and stand. By not doing so u essentially punish those that bought the og ps5 because the disc drive isn’t detachable so now they’ve gotta spend more on a drive. I mean come on bro. No stand is disrespectful.

For a start the yen price has been hit significantly, driving prices through the roof in Japan, plus we have two major wars going on which are affecting the global economy.

It falls exactly where I expected it to, price-wise. There's a reason as to why there are two different offerings (The Standard and the Pro) I won't rush off to get one, as I do have a first edition PS5, but will probably get one sometime next year. (It is significantly better than the original machine, and silicon real estate is proportional price-wise mm2 for mm2)
Ok a console that costs 700$ or 780$ with the disc drive. That's over 800$ after tax. For that price you can build a PC with a Ryzen 5 5600 and a RXT 4060 or RTX 4060 super even 4070 if you catch a decent sale. And with DLSS 3 and frame generation it would most definitely outperform that PS5 pro. Your way too close to PC territory with this one and I just don't think that's a good idea. But it's your money buy what you want just logically makes no sense for me. It's not for me that's fine you guys have fun with it.
No. I’m sorry. We are forgetting this is old hardware already. PS5 is 4 years old. Should be cheaper. This pro should be max 600, probably less. Again we are way into the generation… no way Sony can justify this price on hardware. It’s simply because they can. Or they think they can. tHoperully it’s a failure like VR2 . The PS5 Pro is a premium device for the enthusiast like me, but I notice the PS5 Pro does not include an optical drive and that they are all out of stock on Sony's website. To be honest I expected 2 options as a worst case scenario. PS5 Pro 2TB SSD digital £600 and PS5 Pro 2TB optical drive £700. It was really important for Sony not to screw this up, but it's a mess. Not sure how I feel about this now. I want to buy the complete console, but scalpers will hijack the optical drives and I'm back where I started, not being able to buy a PS5.
I can't help thinking if Sony had not been so greedy by wasting over $600 million chasing service based games such as Suicide Squad, Concorde and whatever else, I could have be playing TLOU3 and Uncharted 5 on a PS5 Pro 2TB SSD with optical drive for £500. I'm annoyed that I have to pay for their mistakes and that is killing the will to upgrade from my PS4 Pro.

It will. They'll probably make the game run at 1080p internally to achieve 60fps but then use PSSR upscailing to hit 4k. It should look really good.
Sticker shock for sure. Personally, it’s worth it to me. Ps5+ 1TB will be $600. A $100 increase on that for the pro is worth it to me. 4k60 here we come!

Yes, I am pretty sure analysts told Sony that Concord would be selling like gangbusters too or that banning 180 countries from accessing Helldivers would massively boost their PSN accounts. Given that majority of them tend to be drastically wrong in their predictions more than 75% of the time, they are about as trustworthy as a car salesman. Willing to skew the numbers to tell you want to hear than give you the actual facts. You're better off taking their reports with huge grains of salt and a wide margin for error. If I were Sony I would be firing all the analysts and be vetting them more carefully. Most of them seem to be peddling numbers just to push their own point of view more so than realistic interpretations of the market. That being said, he is not entirely wrong by saying superfans will jump the gun to purchase these upgrades (along with anyone that can write it off as business expense). 15 million? I would predict only half a million to a million if Sony keeps going as they are. They might make it to 2 million if they actually get their act straight and start releasing some quality SP titles. Astro butt is a good start but a pebble in a pond filled with disappointments.
The price is fine, problem is no disc drive for the price, physical version should always be priority, will support when they bundle a disk drive for same price

To not put a disc drive and than try to say how much better games look, using first party Sony games, is pure Sony marketing. In a not good way. The games that they showcased already looked great. The comparison looked non existent on a RUclips stream, where most watched the presentation. Sony needed to present a pro game.
Can’t wait for the Pro. My daughter and I will be getting the Pro and just purchased two disc drives and two vertical stands in advance. PS6 probably won’t release until 2028 or 2029 so we’ll get plenty of use out of it.

I guess they want a PS VR 2 level flop. It likely won't happen but I see them possibly having to be forced to shave the price. This price is not justified when there's no disc drive, stand 🙄 and then no new games, not old games that take advantage of through patches but new games built from the ground up for it from the get go. As i commented elsewhere, they priced it that high in order to gauge how high they can price the PS6. Think about it. They aren't going to sell the PS6 for less then what the PS5 Pro costs. Don't buy this and send a message to Sony. This is absolutely ridiculous. They are complacent just as they were when launching the PS3. Don't buy this because your just telling them that your willing to pay the same or more for the PS6. If the PS6 is this high and maybe it could be higher PlayStation is definitely dead at that point. All it does is enable the other graphics option. I can afford it easily, but even I can't justify the price to the minimal upgrade. The argument is, it's for a super fan, well a super fan already owns a ps5 (original) it's harsh to ask them to drop 780 on the full package and super fans buy physical media and collect the games you just screw them over by squeezing €$£ out of them

All my older kids are super hardcore gamers we even have a dedicated video game room with every console ever came out.
When the slim didn't get a price drop, I knew the Pro was going to be expensive. But this is steep by any measure. 56% more than the base model. But I guess it's better than canceling it altogether.

It does not surprise me in the least that the PS5 Pro is this price, at the very least I believed it would be $650. Am I defending their pricing ? Absolutely not. However, I will agree that this console is meant for the gaming enthusiast with a certain level of disposable income. I have been of the belief for quite some time that Sony should offer different tiers of their console at different price points based on the amount of tech you want in your console and what you are willing to pay. Like have 3 tiers of the console. An entry level, a PS5 slightly more powerful than that, and last a beast of a PS5 that can hold its own against some gaming PCs. Just a thought.
I hated this idea at 1st. Then I thought about it. 2 tb conpared to the 1 tb we got with the 1st PS5. Yeah, no hard drive, but i haven't bought a disc since the disc games are EMPTY. You STILL have to download the game with a disc or not. I can take my ssd's from the PS5 on to the Pro. I will have both fidelity and performance. I'll have the best of both worlds for any game coming out, and it's another 3 years before the PS6. The extra $200 is actually a deal for all the tech im getting. The PS6 will be the same price. We want PC graphics, well here they come and for a helluva lot cheaper without having to buy a graphics card and everything else. I'll buy it eventually or day 1 IF i have the resources ready for purchase. I have changed my mind.

If Xbox was great, I'd be supporting them like in the 360 days. PC has always been great since the 80s, it was just crazy back then as the technology was constantly changing and you HAD to upgrade, today it's alot better to be on PC. Playstation is IT right now, so that's where my money is at. It's all our opinions and needs. I'm just happy to be alive to have these great options. Like I said, when I can afford to get it, I will. Day 1 if I'm lucky or later down the line.

Cernys design is an elegant one, and I’m talking internals here. But being the pc guys they are they are in bed with Microsoft. I have the big three. It seems like it doesn’t matter how much public ridicule on youtube springs up. Half of the Ps4/PS4 Pro userbase hasn’t bought a console yet and there are a fair number of Xbox owners that only bought a Series S probably that don’t mind spending extra as they know there’s a mountain of great games they can get that they never played that will be dirt cheap now and 2025 is likely to bring a new batch of bangers from Sony optimized for the Pro.
The price is high, but I also suspect that a lot of the people balking now may have paid an overly steep price for their PS5 from scalpers…clearly people bought scalped PS5s. Some are people that bought a PS5 in the last year or so because of the supply chain issues.
Having paid through the nose for a PS5 or struggling to find one for months or over a year might drive some people batty to see a new shiny, extra expensive console that may yet make the regular PS5 seem even more ho-hum is a lot to deal with for some. The generation has been hard on gamers.
