  • 3-time Freeride World Tour Champion Arianna Tricomi fulfills a childhood dream in skiing Val Scura (translation: the dark valley), one of the most famous couloirs of the Dolomites. Despite her youth spent on skis in the mountains surrounding her home resort of Alta Badia, it took until now for Arianna to finally step foot into the couloir she describes as „long, steep, narrow and perfect“. Moving away from the Dolomites seven years ago and traveling the world on skis has shed a new light onto her home mountains, and brought back up the desire to finally ski Val Scura, which Arianna had grown up looking into.

This was fantastic seeing someone so jovial and excited about skiing like this. It wasn't about shredding super hard, it wasn't about grueling pain. It was just about enjoying the sport and the love of snow.

Are they speaking Ladin at around 3:00? Cause I'm Italian and don't recognize the language, it's either their local dialect (I'm from the south, so it would be totally different) or Ladin! Cool stuff :)

Same line Shane McConkey died on.

    • @saintrroy

My understanding from a long time senior local alpine guide was that Shane McConkey tragically died when he base-jumped on skis from the Sass Pordoi plateau off the cliff face of the walls around Canale Holzer and above Val Lasties in the Sella Massif,. This incredible couloir Val Scura del Sassongher is not far from there as the crow flies.

Good video, but saying that is 50 degrees of steep is absolutely NOT TRUE. 👎🏻

38 according to camptocamp, passages of 40. Didn't look like 50 to me either.

Have u ever seen the mountain we are talking about?

Actually, the walls of the couloirs are 65 degrees and above, and in the couloir as per FatMap it ranges from 35 degrees to 55+ degrees in different spots. Think your judgement is off, it is literally almost vertical and clearly the snow was not that friendly and pretty chalky.
