The Pamir Highway in Tajikistan is one of the great roads going through those Central Asian Republics. A lot of bikepackers ride that road. I wanted to go last year but the Wuhan virus stopped everything. Good work Palki and WION.
For tourists the Pamir highway might be ok but for international trade not really. Parts of it are narrow which means you could go over the edge, crossed by waterfalls/streams and have no concrete pavement. During rough winters some of the mountain passes become impassable. It would take much money which those nations do not have to improve.
But for all these goals Indian govt should involve Afghanistan as a short route and engage with the Taliban from any channerl to reach Central Asia for big ties and big projects.
As Uzbek who lives in Uzbekistan, I don't even see any ties with India. But I can say we are planning to build railway through Afghanistan then Pakistan in order to sell our products with cheap prices
The end goal of KarlMarx'SovietSocialist:- Republic Of Stanistan = "Kyrgyzstan, Turkmesnitan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Khalistan, Balochistan"
I don't think Pakistan will ever let India so that and in Afghanistan is under Taliban which has flip flop policy at one moment they say they are with India on the other hand they say they are not
"Tan"? No, it's staan. Kyrgyzstaan. & yes you're right about the Sanskrit word being used here & not Persian. But the Sanskrit word is pronounced "sthaan" meaning - place.
Interesting perspective on the importance of Central Asia. Sidenote: I gather making peace with Pakistan is out of the question for now. (yes, I'm a naïve European).
It's not out of questions but the problem is, pakistani government isn't ready to improve relations with india or resume diplomatic talks untill, india accepts their demand to make kashmir a separate country, which is obviously impossible/impractical considering it willingly joined the Union of india back in 1947 and has been an integral part of the country ever since. Infact some pakistani leaders want to leave this demand and accept the status quo, but they still can't do it. Because it would be equivalent of political suicide if they abandon the kashmir narrative, as pakistanis are too emotional about kashmir and it is used as a political tool to gather support and win elections there. So until they accept the fact that kashmir can't be separated from india, relations will remain sour. Though both of our country could benefit so much from each other if we had good relations, i wish to see it happen in my lifetime.
Political Islam is absolutely a factor in Central Asia. Tajikistan had a devastating war in the 1990s over the role of Islam in government. Uzbekistan had an Islamic siege of Andizhan in 2005. All of them are concerned about Saudi-funded mosques and Taliban attacks. Hizb ut-Tahrir is popular.
Muslims tried to convert us by force once. Didn’t end well for them. It’s the Sufi saints that convinced us. But traditionally muslim clerics and politics have had no power here.
Btw, about Kazakhstan. It has reached 19 million population this year and the name of capital is just Nur-Sultan. Although, I hate this name so I keep calling it Astana
@Caezar human rights are violated, criticism towards him is just a way to death, corruption has not been diminished, his project called Astana is still growing but many a urbanist doesn't like it
@Caezar okay. Maybe, corruption is slightly diminished, but I ain't sure. A problem with human rights is that you get into trouble if you organize or take a part in a peaceful protest against the govt. As I said earlier, any criticism towards Nazarbaev and the govt might get you in jail which is not cool. There are even laws about criticism towards that man. So yeah, there are problems with freedom of speech

The critical nature of Central Asia to empire, past, present and future is worth discussion and attention. Professor Alfred McCoy’s analysis of this is excellent. China, Europe, the US, Russia and India all have had interest and continue to do so. Perhaps a multi-polar approach denying hegemony to any of them will be best.
That professor forgot what western countries do when oil involved, remember Iraq, Syria, Libya and Venezuela.

India may not be interested in the Silk Road as she never was in history.
India has her alternate Russia route passing through Iran & Caspian Sea aligned north-south, unlike east-west route of Silk roads.

This was a very interesting mash-up of politics, history and some interesting snippets of information!
India's access to the Central Asian nations is dependent on Iran - uplifting of sanctions on Iran is therefore critical for these objectives.
You need a map.
All of centeral asian countries has deep conection with Iranian ethnicities, so yes Iran can be a good point to cennect both regions
The sanctions the US and its allies have on Iran are in response to its financing of terror groups and threats to eradicate Israel. I would not object to a geopolitical alliance between India and Iran, but the sanctions are staying there until Khomeini and his radical friends stop being freaks.

WION is very similar like European or US political channels. But it sees the world from another point of view (given from indias locallity on the globe) and in an open informational style. Like chinese channels also EU and USA channels have more propagandistic and suppressive character on free information. WION is quite nice.

Palki is just Awesome Awesome Awesome!
Just a small correction. ‘Tan” is a sansirakrat word stemmed from usthan. Which mean place of living.
I thought stan meant country
A GR8 educational report on Central Asia's region known as the "Stans!" Thumbs up.

@Caezar okay. Maybe, corruption is slightly diminished, but I ain't sure. A problem with human rights is that you get into trouble if you organize or take a part in a peaceful protest against the govt.
