Wraps himself in barbedwire to maximize his suffering after downing the drain cleaner. Writing around while his putrid body and mind are dissolved by modern poison. Imagine that pain, and imagine having an explosive release nearby. I think that during the hallucinatory embrace, he is scrambling for the vest, then rushing into the chapel and grabbing Mary in order to ensure she feels no pain from the explosion.

Such a great film! I agree Ethan Hawke should have gotten an Oscar for this. Too bad the academy didn't appreciate this film.
