This was my old track coach from Seatown Express (his hand picked squad) I remember always knowing that he played in the NFL but he was so humble and never spoke about how good he was. I was about 12-13 at the time and never really took the time to look into it until now.. he used to be like “yeah I was alright” .. no coach, you were fckn nasty 😷 🔥 17k all- purpose yards and 55 TDs.. how is he not HOF?!
Wow. Metcalf was one of my very favorite NFL players & that’s coming from a Steelers fan! He beat us yet he was always acted classy & even fans from the other teams liked him. He did some things on a football field, made some moves & jukes, that were amazing. Lance Alworth was called “Bambi” but Eric Metcalf should’ve been called “Gazelle.” Can’t say enough about him.
Mitchell is the main one though. His return stats are like Jerry Rice's receiving numbers. Yet for some reason whenever there is a list of top players not yet in the hall of fame, he never gets mentioned.
If I could run like any NFL player ever, Eric Metcalf would be near the top of the list. Just a beautiful runner and extremely fast. One of the most graceful runners ever. And don’t forget just how great his receiving ability was. He was solid as hell with Atlanta. Watching this makes me nostalgic, despite being a Steeler fan. What a player
Thank you! Now I can do the video. I got xavien howard Jordy nelson eric weddle kyle juschyzk and now drew brees your a true hero idk why I couldn't think about it
Sooo underrated. He was a combination of Marshall Faulk and Darren Sproles. He was ahead of his time. They quite didn't know what to do with weapons like that back then. One of the most talented players I have ever seen.
Yoooooo... Metcalf is one of my favorite players of all time!!! Loved football back then...that 2 return game was one of the greatest games I've ever seen live
My favorite player coming up was Metcalf i used to tell my friends when we were playing football in the park or in the projects that I was Eric Metcalf thank you for this upload!!!!
FINALLY someone gives Eric M. his due credit!.....he was fun as hell to watch!...I hated ...absolutely hated when he left my BROWNS!.....Still 1 of my fav' BROWNS of all time!!!....I need his jersey come to think of it!....his & Bernies, mayb W.Slaughters too!!!
The thing about the Browns & Metcalf was we were using him the wrong way and he still produced, if we had him as a slot receiver he would be in t hff e hof already. He was definitely worth the price of admission.
This was great. There have been some incredible all purpose freak players such as Herschel Walker, Percy Harvin, Reggie Bush, Darren Sproles, and others, but this guy was the best out of all of them. Nice to see him get some recognition as we look back.
Seattle stand up... Glad I can say this man has coached me and showed me a lot of tricks... Also Terry Metcalf as well coached me had the best of both worlds
Metcalf was a beast. I always thought that Atlanta in “95” used him in a way that unleashed his full potential. Imagine him in some of the high octane offenses of today or the last 10 yrs. Look at the film......his cutback and juke game was Lesean McCoy-like.
Even though I'm a lifelong Vikings fan Metcalf was, and is still my favorite player ever. Guy could do everything...and frankly would be more suited to today's game than his own era.
WoW!! Eric M, Eric T, Webster S, Dixon&Minnifield, Bernie, Mike D, Bubba B!! I can go on and on, those were the goodOLEday’s thanks for all the happy memories...
Besides Vince Young/Earl Campbell Eric Metcalf was my all time favorite player in a longhorn’s uniform this guy was special in College and in the Pro’s. This man should be in the Pro Football HOF for his All purpose yards/on offense/special team/ Metcalf was a football player.
I wanted Detroit to trade for him bad in the 90's lol Eric Metcalf is a legend and should be in the Hall of Fame. Spin move on Madden 94 was unstoppable with Metcalf lol
Honestly I feel like a significant portion of his prime was wasted in Cleveland. Being a Brown's fan, always drove me effin crazy how underutilized he was earlier in his career there. Then he goes to Atlanta and I'm like...why couldn't the Brown's cs figure this out
In today's NFL Eric would have had HOF numbers, one of the most versatile weapons I've ever seen. Every time he touched the ball he was a threat to score
We need a Metcalf type now to complete this offense. God I loved watched him play, what a stud he was. Should have got more attention for the Hall considering he changed the return game in the NFL
METCALF! ...............DOWN THE SIDELINE! ...............GOING DEEP! ...............CUTTING ACROSS THE FIELD AND ACCELERATING! and don't forget.......... Metcalf up the middle!
Cleveland made the stupid mistake of using Eric as rb and returner only . He always had great hands, the moves to lose defenders leaping ability, and his great speed and running moves after catching the ball . He was finally able to do that when he left cleveland for the Falcons .
Was too young to watch the 2 returns against Pittsburgh but every time i watch the highlights and feel the emotion and charge in those old browns crowds i tear up
He was my favorite player when I was young boy in Cleveland. Ironically when our family moved to Atlanta after the 94 season, Eric Metcalf went to the Atlanta Falcons.
Metcalf should be in the HOF. He was the definition of a WEAPON-he could hurt you in so many different ways. Metcalf, Brian Mitchell, Mel Gray and of course Devin Hester should all be in Canton. Those kind of players are special, and don’t come along that often
Me too! Section 58 in the Dawg Pound. He scored on the other side of the endzone. I almost passed out... Bernie came in for an injured Testaverde. We figured Kosar would rally the Browns for a victory, but Eric had other ideas. Pittsburgh had time left, though. They fumbled and Cleveland recovered to seal the victory. Belichick tried to run him between the tackles. Bad move. So Bill got rid of him and Kosar. You won't find a REAL Browns fan who likes Belichick... Met Eric once and he was very humble. Great player and a great person!
the first football game i watched as a kid was the oilers vs the browns. it must have been 89 because i still remeber eric metcalf ripping the oilers special teams apart with his punt returns. i was pretty much hooked on football as a kid after that.
2:48 I remember watching that game live. I was amazed how he could split those defenders and now led me to watching this video to see if it was on RUclips!
As a kid, this was the best time to be a Browns fan. Metcalf was my favorite player. You always thought every time he did a punt return, he would always return it.
Brown's should've used him EVEN MORE, as in much more consistent usage as RB (but the stubbornness of that time, of backs needing to be prototypical bigger), and at WR. The dude was straight special, at the highest levels, at it all not just special teams. He's a Hall of famer to me. One of the best I've ever seen play. Eric was stupid talented, with so much heart. With more consistent offense use, he would've easier made the hall. But the NFL needs to start honoring guys that flourished on special teams and they don't. My Brown's have two of them, Cribbs and Metcalf, but as I said, I stand by Eric could do it all at high level, but both should get in the hall. Jmt
Yes, he has worked in NFL announcing since 1989. He was with NBC in the early to mid 1990s. At one point, he worked in the studio before later working in the FOX studio.
I was around 10 years old at this time but I vividly remember this game. For the slightly younger Browns fans watching this, Metcalf was the original Josh Cribbs. Except Metcalf was considered a running back while Cribbs was a wide receiver
Bitch you sound crazy...🤣😂 metcalf not touching Dante hall or tyreke hill....he made the pro bowl with 3 punt returns😂🤣....he was the best in his era, but he isn't on their level.....dont disrespect the cheetah like that
For those of you who are too young to know....Eric Metcalf was a monster. He could absolutely do it all.
Yes indeed I still have his trading cards
Jared Hills thanks for telling us this. it’s not like we just heard the guy in the video just say the same exact thing
Used to love Metcalf and the browns back then bruh
Jared Hills 🤥
He was good but don't get sucked into this great video. He didn't win anything bruh
This was my old track coach from Seatown Express (his hand picked squad) I remember always knowing that he played in the NFL but he was so humble and never spoke about how good he was. I was about 12-13 at the time and never really took the time to look into it until now.. he used to be like “yeah I was alright” .. no coach, you were fckn nasty 😷 🔥
17k all- purpose yards and 55 TDs.. how is he not HOF?!
Did you show this video to any of your old track teammates?
Metcalf should be in the HOF. So should Brian Mitchell, but the NFL has such an absurd bias against special teams players.
Bill Tasker, Chris Warren to name a couple more from the Era.
Mitchell is the main one though. His return stats are like Jerry Rice's receiving numbers. Yet for some reason whenever there is a list of top players not yet in the hall of fame, he never gets mentioned.
Brian Mitchell and Metcalf both deserve to be in the HOF.
Definitely should be in the HoF.
Return men and special teamers are really screwed over by the HOF. Metcalf, Mitchell and Steve Tasker all deserve it. It’s total BS.
I agree 100%
this resume looks hall of fame worthy to me
Do you know any underrated players from 2018?
yeah, Drew Brees

Yoooooo... Metcalf is one of my favorite players of all time!!! Loved football back then...that 2 return game was one of the greatest games I've ever seen live
Which one? Lol
That move he made against the Bengals on MNF is legendary. The double hop move, total classic.
I am an Atlanta fan. He was unbelievable in the Red Gun offense of 4 Wides . Yes, HOF period.
My favorite player coming up was Metcalf i used to tell my friends when we were playing football in the park or in the projects that I was Eric Metcalf thank you for this upload!!!!
Amen to that. Def peep eric metcalf "jsn highlights" channel of him.
One of my favorite players was Terry Metcalf his father and then enjoyed watching his son Eric, what a talent.
Why does the browns old uniform look better than they do now?
C E A S A R bc it is
Starter were the sponsor jersey
Cuz Nike jerseys/uniforms low key trash
Because they were winning
Cause the 90's was the shit
Extremely underrated.
The thing about the Browns & Metcalf was we were using him the wrong way and he still produced, if we had him as a slot receiver he would be in t hff e hof already. He was definitely worth the price of admission.
Thanks for pulling this gem out of your hat.
This guy can do it all. Touchdown waiting every time he touches the ball.
This was great. There have been some incredible all purpose freak players such as Herschel Walker, Percy Harvin, Reggie Bush, Darren Sproles, and others, but this guy was the best out of all of them. Nice to see him get some recognition as we look back.
That 89 class is getting better and better by the day
I remember watching his dad Terry Metcalf who played for the St Louis Cardinals and he was amazing as well
Mr. All purpose one of a kind
Wow this guy was great! Never knew he was a charger either. And his dad was amazing too!
Yes his dad was a better player than he was he put up better numbers over shorter. Of time by far and drove the team to the playoffs
Definitely. Averaging over 2,000 all-purpose yards over 5 seasons is ridiculous, especially in that era.
Mesmerizing to watch, one of the most fluid athletes to ever play the game. Never breaks stride, never off balance, just one continues gliding motion.
Metcalf was an amazing player. He’s extremely underrated!
Man, I used to LOVE watching him play!!! He had moves like a Deer!!
One of the og “Belichick guys”. Ideal Belichick/Parcells style player
Seattle stand up... Glad I can say this man has coached me and showed me a lot of tricks... Also Terry Metcalf as well coached me had the best of both worlds
The real Browns. Before being moved to Baltimore by the enemy Art Modell.
And robed us of a super bowl.
That guy was a dick.
@@kubbykush420 Two super bowls.
Fart Hotel
I'll except that the Browns have returned now. After all these years.
rest in piss
All Cleveland fans love this kid he was my hero growing up
Back with the real browns before they became the ravens.
His daddy was amazing. He jumped over the defensive line for TDs
In truth, that Pittsburgh Game was the last time I truly felt alive watching a Browns game...
One of the best players ever.
Terry , Eric , dk Metcalf these guys genetics are special
Metcalf was a beast. I always thought that Atlanta in “95” used him in a way that unleashed his full potential. Imagine him in some of the high octane offenses of today or the last 10 yrs. Look at the film......his cutback and juke game was Lesean McCoy-like.
He wore primetime number lol wow
I remember watching that Browns, Steelers game. Fxcking awesome. Go Browns!
Damn that jump cut at 2:42 ☠️☠️☠️
I saw it live on Monday Night Football. Best run I've ever seen.
That was the third game of his rookie year. If you watched that live that's when you knew Eric Metcalf was special.

I used to kill with this Guy on Tecmo Bowl!!
Lol
Hell yeah that is bad ass bro I would always remember him in the 3rd one on SNES. Great times
His Dad, Terry Metcalf, was equally electrifying.
I wanted Detroit to trade for him bad in the 90's lol Eric Metcalf is a legend and should be in the Hall of Fame. Spin move on Madden 94 was unstoppable with Metcalf lol
The best underrated player to ever play for Texas 🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿 and he dominated in the NFL Metcalf is a living Legend 🙌🏿🙏🏿💯
Wasn't it, Dale Carter who said: "Eric Metcalf is the best athlete I have ever seen?"
Eric Metcalf and Dave Meggett killed the league in the 80s and 90s
Wisely spoken. Mel Grey was a beast also
Yeah dont 4get Gentry #29 from the bears but not like Metcalf dude was on some next level ish Meggette too
Desmond Howard & Brian Mitchell
I miss those days of football.
@@kubbykush420; yep

Do you know any underrated players from 2018?
Somebody should make a video about how underrated he is.
Did anyone see him tear that linebackers’ knee in half at 5:52? #50 probably had nightmares for the rest of the season after that juke move.
😭😭😭 yur rippin my heart out 😭😭😭 shuld hav never watched...I'm watching again...
Awesome! Thanks for the memories !
Never was a Cleveland fan, but Metcalf was fun to watch. One of the best.
I like these videos with Elliot Harrison. I need more of this
I was at the 1993 game against Pittsburg. When he ran that 2nd punt back I thought the stadium was going to come down.
Me too! Section 58 in the Dawg Pound. He scored on the other side of the endzone. I almost passed out...
Bernie came in for an injured Testaverde. We figured Kosar would rally the Browns for a victory, but Eric had other ideas.
