My only issue is that people that try to fix the Booster Pass Course tracks only change the texture and maybe change trees models, there's a lot more work that needs to be done to make those tracks look like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe base game. That why Maxmos on Gamebanana is trying remodel the Booster Pass Course tracks to make them took like they belong in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
I'm fairly certain the BCP tracks have a lower polygon count overall, even compared to the MK8 base game tracks, which had fewer polygons to work with than the Wii U DLC packs. Also, some light probes are missing on some BCP tracks because they forgot to render them, so the global illumination doesn't look as good as it previously did either.
The pointing Pianta plus the escalator being properly modeled and animated rather than a conveyor is the only way it should exist if there's not gonna be arrows
@@SamRegan610true plus I don’t know if u can get that to work in 8dx But I do think the arrow should be blue and reds to look more like mk7 where it was translucent
Ngl, I personally think that the bcp's more cartoony style works well. But at least keep it consistent with the rest of the game. Going from the main game to bcp looks like going from switch games to atari games
Indeed. I find it weird people want realistic textures of tracks ONLY. Modifying textures should be on an overall basis, meaning characters, karts, wheels et al should be "upgraded" as well, which would make the game look like a generic racing game. If only tracks get upgraded, characters and vehicles will look out of place.
Yeah, on its own the BCP aesthetic doesn't look particularly bad as a whole, barring some earlier tracks. I also find it to be better than the base game in terms of color palette(but not overall detail). It's the fact it's DLC for a game with a pre-estabilished aesthetic that makes it really jarring
5:44 Rock coming in from the top ropes- oooooh what a hit!!! It’s crazy how much better these tracks look with just a few changes, wonder why Nintendo didn’t even try to put in the effort 😒
I'm gonna be honest, most of these don't look better. The only ones I'd say are a marked improvement across the board are Shroom Ridge, Mushroom Gorge, and Rock Rock Mountain. Paris and Athens already have a lot of same-y colors, so the sunset only makes those colors blend together more. Toad Circuit only changed the grass texture, so it doesn't fit alongside the other colors that stayed very bright. Mario Circuit mostly looks good, but the forest lost all of its atmosphere. Sky Garden just looks wrong, the orange road and white clouds are fine. And I'm gonna be controversial here: Coconut Mall needs the arrows on the escalators. The only reason the Wii version worked without them is because the escalators were modeled and animated, and there was a Pianta pointing to where it went forward. Without either of those, it's very difficult to tell which one is the faster one during a race. Plus, like Toad Circuit, the textures that were changed looked mismatched next to the ones that stayed the same. I hate to be negative, but when the point of this is that they look "better" and they mostly don't...
I easily would've taken 2 Waves a year for Improved Textures. The ones you've shown look awesome, and I can only imagine what the rest would look like if Nintendo actually put in some effort.
I am not sure if the lighting and texture stuff was due to time or budget or what, but they are the key issue I have with the Booster Course Pass. Most of the BCP textures look fine (we don't talk about Toad Circuit or Rock Rock Mountain), but don't necessarily match the vibe of the MK8 base game tracks. Adding the improved textures and adjusting the lighting simply makes it feel more cohesive with the rest of the game. I can get over some of the simpler geometry a lot easier.
Tour Paris Promenade - eh, 7/10 Unneeded change but very interesting nonetheless Tour Athens Dash - 8/10 Looks cool, but those trees REALLY stick out now 3DS Toad Circuit - 9/10 I feel like I’m playing on the 3DS again :D, although I would make the colors ever so slightly less vibrant DS Mario Circuit - 10/10 THIS is what I’m talking about. Feels new enough to be its own thing while still definitely being a remake. DS Shroom Ridge - 6/10 I didn’t like it in the BCP in the first place, and barely anything’s changed when looking from far away. GBA Sky Garden - 3/10 No. You made it look actively worse heart emoji Wii Coconut Mall - 8/10 Not much to say here, good job Wii Mushroom Gorge - 5/10 Wtf are those COLORS my eyes hurt 3DS Rock Rock Mountain - 11/10 Everything it needed to be, faithful, new, detailed, colors match now
ngl some of them aren't really an improvement. Coconut Mall looks washed out and there is this weird color contrast between the road and the grass in Toad Circuit
Unfortunately changing some of the textures doesnt do a good enough job at fixing the core design changes in these tracks. At the end the day, the BCP tracks ars still so much more cartoony and would probably need completely redoing to really live up to base MK8
While this looks better than most mods out there that ony add hyperrealistic textures to the low poly aesthetic (which ends up looking horrible), these mods actually try to look nice and in harmony with the model of the courses. I stil have some nitpicks like the change to the trees in DS Mario Circuit (the 64-like trees look better imho) and some levels seriously need to improve the color contrast between texture, most of them still look excessively saturated. Other than that, it's quite nice to see people working to improve how the game looks.
The escalator looks great but I do think the arrow should be blue and reds like mk7 thats a translucent Tex so it’s not obvious covered up the escalators like they do in 8dx makes it look more like conveyer-belt then escalator. The other this that’s missing to Wii tracks if we can get the boost panel to be more accurate to the Wii as possible.
El único que me agradó del todo fue Rock Rock Mountain, con mejores texturas y una paleta de colores más natural. Toad Circuit y Mushroom Gorge se salvan, pero algo en la iluminación no me cuadra; y el resto directamente prefiero la versión oficial.
I still think the city tracks need work, but overall great! Also unpopular opinion - sky garden looked better orange, Coconut Mall looks better originally (at least they didn't go with a ridiculous Wii color scheme), the grass still looks like plastic on many tracks
While I'm fine with how BCP looks now I will admit some of these changes are REALLY nice. Having said that I really wish that the Sky Garden road texture was more accurate to the original GBA texture (the green road with rocks), and I also personally like the directional indicators on the coconut mall escalators. Makes them MUCH visually easier to tell which direction they're going.
The BCP was apparently developed by a less experienced team, which was the reason for the subpar quality of wave 1 (almost 1:1 Tour ports). However, the team’s expertise grew over time, leading to improvements in the quality of subsequent waves, but obviously not to the point of holding a candle to the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe base game tracks. There are still mistakes in every wave. That's why the BCP seems lazy.
We can all agree Rock Rock Mountain needed the retexturing the most
Toad circuit?
Yep
Efectivamente
Koopa cape
Toad Circuit, basically the entire wave 1, Athens Dash

I might take a look at that as well

Now a fan of the clounds recoloring. I prefer them white, as the MK8DX version. But the road looks way better.

I was thinking the same thing
It still needs to add parking Vehicles in the boring roads in the Tour tracks (Excluding Athens Dash).
This is similar to ZPL's Overhaul on the BCP Tracks.
