  • Charles Bennett explains the key to scientific discovery is having a prepared mind. This includes curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Scientific breakthrough, like those of Louis Pasteur, would not be possible without a "prepared mind."
Charles L Bennett MD PhD MPP is the South Carolina Smart State Chairman for Medication Safety and Efficacy at the University of South Carolina. Previously, Dr. Bennett was the A.C. Beuhler Chair for Medical Economics at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and the Kellogg School of Management. Dr. Bennett’s scientific research builds on a theme initially developed by Louis Pasteur- the “prepared mind” as a central foundation to ground breaking transformative scientific discovery. Dr. Bennett is the author of more than 400 medical and policy publications and the principal investigator for over $20 million in grants from the National Institutes of Health. He is the first medical oncologist to receive a PhD in public policy from a “think tank”- the RAND Corporation’s Public Policy program. Having a “prepared mind” has been critical in Dr. Bennett’s ground-breaking discoveries that have improved the lives of tens of millions of persons worldwide.
