    Lyrics:
    Things like this
Can always take a little time
    I always thought
We'd be together down the line
    We start to fight
And can't get over what was said
'Cause you see black and white
    And I see red
And I wonder who let in the rain
    You know without you
    I'm not the same
    When love gets strong
    People get weak
    Sometimes they lose control
And wind up in too deep
    They fall like rain
    Who let in the rain

Cyndi was incredibly under-appreciated at this time in her career. The “Hat Full of Stars” album was fantastic but I don’t remember ever hearing any of the songs on the radio. It was ignored. I’m glad that in recent years she has gotten more appreciation and the icon status she deserves.

The radio play was and remains lousy today too. Far too much trash advertising and just terrible music. The lack of the recognition of Cyndi is shameful. Saw her in concert in Portland MODA center.

The timing of Madonna's arrival, and less than stellar promotion overshadowed Cyndi. Her range, lyrical skills, and connection with her audiences was, and is worthy of an icon. To me and millions globally she is just that, an icon.

Her stuff stopped being commercial. This has more of an "adult contemporary" feel to it, albeit with some weird synth stuff thrown in, whereas Madonna never stopped riding trends and putting pop music out.

I can never understand why people need to keep regurgitating the same old Madonna vs Cindi trope. There were similarities in style in 1983 but after that each girls direction followed a different trajectory. Both made enough money from their respective careers to allow them to live comfortably for the rest of their natural, thank you very much. I can listen to tracks from both these women without considering whether it pleased one or the others bank manager.

Both Cyndi Lauper and Madonna's song appeal are just about equal in my opinion, Madonna of course has been more popular for longer periods of time but despite Cyndi's lack of sales, she's consistently been making great songs long after her popularity has waned, her catalogue of great songs are just as long as Madonna's.
Even over the last decade, I managed to find some really amazing songs in Cyndi's relatively recent efforts and I would recommend people listen to her later efforts like Echo, Rocking Chair, Into The Nightlife and even a lovely surreal cover of The Beatles's Across The Universe ...
I really do enjoy Madonna's songs too, although a lot of her hits from the 80s and 90s does not seem to stand the test of time as much as Cyndi's ... songs like La Isla Bonita, Open Your Heart, Papa Don't Preach,Who's That Girl etc does not seem to stand up to repeat listening.. But there are still a lot of Madonna gems to be had ...ironically a lot of lesser known Madonna songs are quite great ...
Personality wise I'll alway prefer Cyndi Lauper .. Madonna comes across kind of arrogant and too strong ... maybe thats why Madonna attracts more attention and the attentions helps to sell her albums as people are more curious about her ...

This is all true, only if we take into account the singing skills, the diversity of the sound, the range of sounds, then it is above not only Madonna, but the other singers!

"Who Let In The Rain" takes me back to 1993, at the age of 12, when I heard the song on my local AC radio station for the first time and caught the video on MTV a couple of times. I remember thinking that the song had something special, and over the years it became a favorite. Now I like it more than ever. The first verse remains one of my favorite moments in music. The melody. The music. The voice. Beautiful. I love the video, too.

MTV is not about music anymore. They haven't been since the early 80's. I will never understand how that happened. That's how we miss gems like this - no one to promote valid music anymore!! Cyndi is AMAZING!

I love you Cyndi! From the 14-year old boy who saw the True Colors world tour (also his first ever concert) at Forest National in Brussels in 1987. I saw you at each concert in London with my husband Bruce including this year at Royal Albert Hall which did justice to your extraordinary voice, we'll be there next year for the farewell tour. We love you and thank you for lifting our spirits. When I was 14 I felt nothing but despair. There was AIDS everywhere and I knew I was gay at a time when our world was aggressively homophobic. True Colors spoke to me. Princess Diana challenging the AIDS stigma with every hug of patients. You are an inspiration through your music and your extraordinary empathy for our community. I am sure your music brings comfort to many people around the world in countries that have a way to travel towards recognising the beauty of people's true colors. I love you & Thank You!!!!

yk tan as Madonna's gotten older, her lack of talent is more pronounced, Madonna relied mainly on looks, controversy, shock value and sex. Things that naturally diminish when you get older.

Madonna had a lot LOT more hits than Cyndi but oddly enough most of Madonna's hits does not seem to withstand repeat listening ... songs like Open Your Heart, La Isla Bonita, Who's That Girl or recent ones like Hung Up all just dulls over time ... ironically I really enjoy a lot of Madonna's lesser known songs in her 2 albums Music and Ray of Light ... this just proves that Madonna's commercial efforts are mostly not so enduring... (Live To Tell, Into The Groove, Cherish, Like A Virgin and Borderline are great though)
In contrast, Cyndi's hits songs really stood up to repeat listening .. and first 3 albums are jam packed with equally great songs without a single weak track ... even in the 2000s she had a lot of great tracks like Echo, Across The Universe (a surreal cover of The Beatles's classic), Rock The Boat etc ...

In the face of life's most formidable challenges, my wife's battle with esophageal cancer has cast a shadow over our world. Amidst the overwhelming waves of despair, there exists a profound and unexpected source of solace - a song that miraculously transcends the darkness, breathing hope into our hearts. Somehow, in its melodic embrace, this song becomes a beacon of strength, guiding us through the tumultuous seas of uncertainty. It is a testament to the extraordinary power of music, a gentle force that resonates with the deepest corners of our souls, providing a glimmer of light in the midst of the storm. In the quiet moments, when the weight of the world presses down, the notes and lyrics intertwine to create a sanctuary of resilience and comfort. This song, like a secret ally, accompanies us on this arduous journey, offering a unique balm for the wounds that cancer has inflicted upon our lives.Thank you!

This song was so far ahead of its time. Since it didn't sound a lot like Cyndi there wasn't a lot of air play. This was recorded after she'd had vocal cord surgery to repair years of damage. I remember having the single on cassette. I'd love to see a new singer cover it or maybe even Cyndi re-release it.

This one, you should have been titled the true and only Queen of Pop!! Cyndi was undoubtedly Madonna's great inspiration at the beginning of her musical career. Just like Michael Jackson was inspired by James Brown

Cyndi Lauper is one of the most underrated artists of our generation. Listen to her Howard Stern interview. She's amazing.

    Très joli, très classe…
Une autre Cyndi Lauper, toute en séduction, élégance et raffinement. Superbe.
On est loin du style déjanté "flashy/punk" qu'elle arborait durant la décennie 80.

Agreed; I love the version of this included on "Shine" CD. There are a lot of her songs that are great ("Calm Inside the Storm", "Unconditional Love", "That's What I Think", "Goonies R Good Enough", "When You Were Mine", "Heading West", "Change of Heart", "At Last", etc). :)

This is one of Ms. Lauper's most brilliant pieces of work. Written, performed and directed by Cyndi. And I wonder if people realize that the artist drawing on the street at the start of the video is also Ms. Lauper herself. So talented in every way!

Screw the business smarts - screw the industry - Cyndi has genuine talent - this is a very moving well written song with strong vocals - cyndi has longevity! I remember when this song came out in 1993 and it was not in - well time is the real measure - and in 2011 - this song is in!
