Oh it totally is. Years ago our landlord refused to fix the gaping holes in the roof of our apartment because he said he couldn’t afford it. He figured out he was wrong after we withheld rent for six months and then we used the money to put a down payment on a house. 1:00:05 hi, I’m a therapist. Here’s a rule about self-care that I tell all my clients. There’s nothing wrong with “a little treat” as a form of _reactive_ self-care (today was extra awful or my boss yelled at me so I’m going to get some ice cream) IF you are also engaging in regular _proactive_ self-care (therapy, journaling, physical activity, health care, clean home, etc). My rule of thumb for good, long-term, impactful self-care: It shouldn’t be easy. You won’t always want to do it. You will sometimes have to muster up every ounce of energy you have left after a 12 hour shift or a rough week to clean your room or write in a journal or go for a run. But if it’s good self-care, you will feel good after and you’ll be proud of yourself for having done it.
I’ve been working out 2-3 times a week, and a couple days, as I’m just starting, were really difficult. It felt like moving a mountain. But I knew it’d be good for me, so I did it, and I honestly felt great about getting over that hurdle

Dummy air heads.. austin IS DIRT CHEAP compared to l.a.. period.. 900 for a whole studio vs. 2100 for a studio in l.a. The pay in L.A. is only 25% higher than austin.. so technically, in Austin, I could make my money go further. Even if income in Austin would be 50 percent less, it's still more affordable. She’s not even a paralegal you need a bachelors and a year of work experience before you can apply. Anyone can be a lawyer but she wouldn’t be a good one and she would go into debt at a low level law school not paying her back.
Caleb talks about the house she owns, then he asked about whether she has saved for taxes. My immediate thought was PROPERTY TAXES, but her comment was “I broke even”, meaning federal taxes (Texas does not have income tax). But it’s obvious she shouldn’t be a landlord either if she is spending ‘rental income’ and not paying taxes.
Lmfao you think people goto small claims court for a measly couple grand? Thats not how it works. There's a reason all tenants have bullshit charges to keep the deposits. Made up or exaggerated cleaning fees, repair fees, etc. No ones going to small claims for that amount of money.
The extremely obvious answer to literally all her problems are to sell the house, settle all debts, and use the large amount of remaining equity to either make a down payment on a new house and/or pay for school.
It's such a bad decision on multiple levels as now she's not eligible for a FHA loan. And that's the way a lot of people get into a house since you only need at least 3.5% down instead of 20%.

I can't believe she actually publicly complained about not getting government assistance when she owns a house that she rents out. Very detached from reality 😳😳
People very much do not understand what "writing off" expenses means. It doesn't make it free. it reduces your taxable income. So, if you write $10k off and your taxable salary is $110k it would be reduced by that write off to $100k and your annual income taxes (if we're doing a simple calculation) goes from $19,442.50 to $17,053 (a reduction of only $2,389) and it's only really that high because i accidentally chose salaries that cross brackets. Bottom line is that, if you are writing off a $10k expense, that does NOT mean you get $10k back. You get a percentage back in reduced taxable liability.
The vast majority of people who are not self-employed are better off taking the standard deduction and not itemizing anyway. So you can't write off anything. LOL

Just putting it out there, the fact that a church is actually PAYING HER to work in the nursery on Sundays is HUUUUGE. As a childcare worker, PLEASE do not recommend coming late. Centres close when they close and its $1 per MINUTE due in cash upon pickup most places, and doing it often WILL get you kicked out. You can also get CPS called on you for child abandonment (we have to call the cops after 1 hour at my centre)
Is there no leniency at these places? If a parent gets off work at 5 and the centre closes at 5, why can't they let the staff know and just pay the fee each time? If CPS did get called because of being 10 min late frequently, the investigation would show they are working and fighting traffic to get there. I just don't see how that's a problem if the parent let's you know.
@goeblincitycosplay yeah, so punish parents already needing government assistance to watch their kids. No one drafted these people to work at daycare facilities. Dude, I do rental property, and I have had similar conversations with young single parents. One lady had three children. She received lots of child support, and she worked two jobs. I tried to help her buy a house, but my mortgage broker friend told me that no legitimate bank was going to loan her any money. She failed to tell me that her credit score was about as low as it could get. She was overextended on credit, and she bought a new car EVERY YEAR. It was hopeless, and then her on-again-off-again boyfriend got arrested. Then, her ex-husband sued for and won full custody of their children (i.e., no more child support). Such a freaking mess. She moved out at some point, but she still calls me at least twice a year to ask for advice. There is more hope for another tenant who recently got a great new job. As a 24-year-old, I was excited for someone my age to come on and see how we compare life-wise. It started out so strong with her taking notes but by the end... honestly I am so embarrassed. Similar thing here, if I've had a rough day at work or something... I can just, for example, go to pizza pizza and Maxi and get a medium pizza and a 7oz bag of store brand chips... for under 10 USD. I pay in cash and don't have debt, but I wouldn't see myself spending much more in this way. And just like that I have enough food for a couple meals. I like his attitude when reviewing these statements. You can’t go easy on people. They’re here for a reality check and he’s giving it to them pretty good.
I definitely understand her anxiety about anticipating negative comments, especially from people who have better finances or who "would never do something stupid". I think the fire's lit and no one is talking about how impressive it is that she bought a house at 21 and is creating another stream of income so young. I think if she follows Caleb's advice, she'll set herself up in a FANTASTIC position by or before 30. I'd love to see her return for a follow-up.
The House is screwing her. My guess is she inherited money from her Mom, put it for the down payment and leased it based on passive income advice from social media. She hasn't been able to afford it and is taking out loans to upkeep it. She couldn't get food stamps because of it or any assistance when shee needed it.. She's house poor without even living in it.
I agree. She deserves A LOT of credit for that!!!! And it's cashflowing!!! And the girl lost her mom 7 years prior to this 😢😭 SHE IS A WINNNNNNNER. SHE just needs a mentality change. No more clubbing, drinking, partying. She will be a wonderful wife if she applies her mental fortitude to learning helpmeet/being a Godly wife. She has a lot of hope and potential. She just has to become a frugal woman, Proverbs 31, and before she is 30 she will be FARRRRR ahead of so many others her age. She's a great girl. I'm saying this as a 37 year old wife with three kids back to back who is a Bigger Pockets fan, no debt and working on Baby step #3 of the Dave Ramsey plan
while raising a child as a single mom, working on her bachelor's, and now working two jobs! she's honestly amazing as i cannot even imagine how hard all of this must be especially due to the loss of her own mother, the pandemic and measures against it like lockdowns, and the rising cost of living across the world. you're absolutely right, as is the comment which responded to yours; if she makes the changes suggested here, she's well on her way to creating an excellent future for herself and her child. i hope for all the best for her and her kid ❤
100%. The comment section is really inappropriate for what this show is supposed to be. This community should be a community of hope and it’s so toxic.
My mom also has the same mindset. I was also raised in a single mother household and she use to “reward” herself with going out to eat. My sister and I of course had to come because we were kids but all these restaurants and outside “fun” never got her anywhere. I always saw her struggle and jumping into now, I am now 28 yrs old, married, pregnant, with a toddler and she and my stepdad have to live with me because there’s no way they can make it out on their own. But yet they still go out every weekend and have all these “rewards” and nothing to show for all these years. It isn’t fair for my husband and I but I can’t just leave her in the streets
You and your husband shouldn’t have to do that. Your responsibility is to your children and your family. You need to give them a deadline to get jobs and a place so they don’t put your kids in the same position as you bc of them.
Ughhh as a single mom im cringing. I work full time school full time and have no support from the father. 100% bills come first before eating out. It's exhausting draining stressful but take care of your bills and debt 😭
As a single dad who's had my kid literally every single night since he's been born. I literally went out to eat twice last year and still feel guilty about. It's not that hard to make a sandwich, or throw rice and beans etc into the instant pot
Out of everything in this conversation, the way she handles her rental property worries me the most. Not only is she not saving a dime towards maintenance, but she is committing multiple illegal actions. By law, you cannot touch the security deposit EVER during the lease, and it needs to be in its own separate account. She needs to do far more research on this topic or she's going to get herself into some big doo doo.
She probably has a sugar daddy (says Friends give her $20 here and there to go eat). I'm sure she gives out "favors" for this fun money and thought she could add Caleb to the roster
I couldn't imagine coming on a program like this, where someone is literally giving you all the solutions, and all you're worried about is how people online will judge you based on your choices....the past and people's opinions don't matter....you building towards a better future does
When the entire premise of the show is "I effed up and got myself into a situation I can't figure my way out of. Please help me?" they should be already resigned to the fact they dun goofed.
Her excuses: 1. I won't live in my rental property 2. I won't leave my current job 3. I need a "reliable" car 4. Pretty much I'm not going to accept any changes you suggest

A landlord without an emergency fund is terrifying.
Especially one who doesn’t even understand the concept of “future repairs”
Oh it totally is. Years ago our landlord refused to fix the gaping holes in the roof of our apartment because he said he couldn’t afford it. He figured out he was wrong after we withheld rent for six months and then we used the money to put a down payment on a house. We settled up with him months later for next to nothing because the place was still unfixed and unrentable. Absolutely lovely apartment with sweeping views of water, and he just let it rot.

I feel like Caleb keeps asking why people laugh and like 99% of the time it’s a coping mechanism for an awkward situation or someone being uncomfortable
While it's true that is usually the reason people are laughing, it'd be more irresponsible for him to not ask and then the audience draw their own conclusions and potentially assume it's because they don't care. He asks so they can give their own reasoning.
It also shows immaturity and trying to avoid a tough conversation.
It reminds me of children who will do bad things and laugh about it until an adult teaches them that it’s not right.

Something Caleb knows, or sure as heck should know, is that getting a job at a fast food restaurant is "greedy"- they want open schedule availability. But it does not pay well. She had charges for getting her brows done.. she wanted Kaleb and us to have sympathy for her. This might be a wake up call.
You guys ever heard of birth control? Jesus christ
@@DarkBeforeSpawnthey have a thousand excuses on why “it didn’t work” or why they didn’t do more than BC to prevent pregnancy
“I’m adding you to my roster” is such an ick
She probably has a sugar daddy (says Friends give her $20 here and there to go eat). I'm sure she gives out "favors" for this fun money and thought she could add Caleb to the roster
Nobody tricking for a dub nowdays@@pinkisforpimps
She said it as a ‘joke’ but she definitely thinking about another baby daddy for another $350/month 🤦🏽♂️
@@pinkisforpimpsshe they type of people to sell her body but say retail is for gross people
@@ElMartino23she actually is pretty cute imo just based on looks that is lol
Thank you for increasing the quality and caliber of your guests. The last few were tough
One thing i would like to see is check-ins from past episode guests.
He has a separate channel for follow-ups! He doesn't do them with every guest ever, though
he has a follow up channel only one woman has come back for a follow up, the rest of the vids are men coming back.
1. Sell her house
2. Sell her car
3. Use cash to pay off all her debts
4. Buy a cash car.
But then she won’t look rich bro
Eat beans and rice
Her excuses:
1. I won't live in my rental property
2. I won't leave my current job
3. I need a "reliable" car
4. Pretty much I'm not going to accept any changes you suggest
5. Apply for affordable housing.
6. Apply for food stamps.
7. Use extra money to build up emergency fund.

I'm really glad you did a debt before letting them unload. Some of the past episodes have felt like therapy sessions. And you having gone over a debt first helped with the input you were able to give as she attempted to give you context.
yes this was the best!!!
Yesss i prefer this so much more!
Paying rent when you own a home you can live in is wild.
Well you know what the say , get a rental property 🫨
@@allthatsheizit's 100% what you should do if you're too broke to afford one
Nah I suppose it gives you the freedom to move around as you wish
Not really, there are situations where this works fine
And San Antonio is cheaper to live in and less expensive city than Austin. Probably more job opportunities too.
