Thank you Nathan for the epic videos on your reconn. I’m very confident now that we have made the right decision in ordering ours. ( Thanks to you both ). I’m sure Teagan has a lot to do with what goes on behind the scenes and gets little to no recognition from us the viewers. So Teagan thank you for your input and keeping the well oiled machine running, Now please go and enjoy the time with your family and forget about us for a while. Cheers and thank you 🤙
Thanks mate, it's definitely the right camper for us and no doubt for yourselves too! Thanks for that mate, I've passed that onto Teagan and she is very grateful! Would be a much smaller YT channel without my entire family's support, so here's to them all 🥂 Thanks mate 🙏
Sincerely, thanks Nathan. You invited us all in to your world, demonstated your choice in van/camper to a standard of integrity befitting your character, yes you blow me away everytime you disclose a product, its features and the primary benefits suiting your requirements. That water, power supply most would consider over the top, even unnecessary, but as per usual you can readily justify it. Congrats, just love the total practically of this van, well all except the brilliant external kitchen. Having said that, a small induction cooktop inside would quickly resolve that for me, just for time when weather outside is less than inviting. Not as young as you, sadly 😢. What an extraordinary home away from home you have jointly provided for your lovely family, enjoy it, every bit of it.
Thanks Ian, I appreciate those comments. We are extremely happy with our setup and wouldn't change it for this trip around Aus. I'll be sure to follow up with future productions regarding hybrid campers and our experience with Lifestyle longterm, but the short of it is that we are happy 👍 PS. The flagship LRX model comes with an internal induction too 😉
Hi Nathan we have had our Reconn R4 on order now for a year.. I am so impressed with your videos and the content in them. So good to now we have made the right choice. I may knock off some of your ideas through out the series. Well thought out and great preparation for your travels. If you could continue to show the Reconn during your trip so we can see how it goes off road and where you get to take it. Again Awesome content in all your vids. Happy and safe travels to you and you great family. Cheers Wayne
Awesome, thanks Wayne! I'm sure you will have made the right decision then! They are genuinely a great camper. I'll be sure to show everyone where this takes us and I'll definitely be filing some reviews and discussions around the Lifestyle and hybrid campers as a topic 👍
Thoroughly enjoyed this series Nathan. I’m most interested in the power setup. Although having a new van, the power setup has failed miserably so I’m now looking at what is available. Your vid has helped a lot. Thanks so much for your efforts.
Thanks Jim, always appreciated 🙏 Yes, I remember you talking about some issues and sorry to hear that it's never really worked out. Hopefully some ideas here for the ultimate system? Hopefully be able to catch up soon 🤞
Awesome videos mate but just missing one thing, what’s the basic price of the van and also with all your optional extras as your setup is what I’m looking for, thanks
Hey mate, yeah so I didn't include the price because it always changing. It change 2 times between ordering and arriving. From memory it was about $94k plus options 👍
Mate!!!!!!! Your enthusiasm to modern camping is second to none. We have just purchased 90 acres and are building a totally off grid shipping container x8 home away from home set up plus multiple camping areas throughout our rainforest. Your videos are extremely helpful in our planning. Cheers to you and your family Safe travels 👍 The Bullock family
Thanks mate, I find this stuff really interesting and I'm glad to see others enjoy watching the process too 👍 Your project sounds fascinating. Will you be documenting any of this as you go along? Would be something I'd be interested in seeing, that's for sure 👍 Thanks mate 🙏
That is a cracking setup. Really got me thinking about a separate tank for drinking water now as it is by far our biggest limitation on longer trips. That Victron system is amazballs. I got the cheapskate option with the Renogy 3000W charger inverter which chargers at 75A, but the thing weighs 29kg so swapped it out for just their 3000W inverter. Not nearly in the same league, but can run everything for us (including AC) and has the same UPS feature that the Victron does to switch between shore power and batter. Brilliant thing with your Victron system is it comes in 12v or 24v input. Pulling those massive currents over 12v requires some serious cabling and fusing. You may find over time that 24v will be on the cards (reduced voltage sag, reduced cabling gauge requirements as the current is halved, etc). I'll definitely be looking at 24v for our next build. I think within the next decade it is going to be an expectation rather than a fringe luxury case to be able to run your AC all night from battery, at least for mid tier to upper end off-road vans.
Thanks mate, we love it! It has been and hopefully will continue to work well in our setup. I agree with your comment regarding the 24V though. It is the way of the future for these high demand/supply setups and the markets accessories will begin to adapt their products to suit accordingly. I don't think our's needs changing yet, given the current setup working well and the very short distances between the batteries and the inverter, but anymore and it would be great idea. Hey, as long as your setup works for what you need, that's all the matters 👍
It’s amazing how quickly technology leaps ahead. That said, you are so right about building your solar system for the bad days, as perfect Sunny Days are often not that common. A couple of things you could do in a few short years is upgrade your solar panels. I’m pretty sure some of the worlds best panel manufacturers are already producing 440-450 watt panels, in two to three years time that will probably be 600watts, so essentially you could go from a 1xxx watts of solar on the roof of the camper to almost 2,000 for minimal outlay. By the same measure the 150watt portables will probably be almost 300watts each, so that’s a system that will only get better and rather easily, even if you are required to also replace a solar charger to increase capacity. Other ways to reduce the amount of power required on bad solar days would be to utilise the jet boil for making a cuppa (or the fire) AND you could probably turn that freezer down (or up depending which way you look at it) because minus 18 Deg Celsius is what’s recommended for long term storage, whereas in the van your probably only freezing meat for a week or two at a time……..unless you’re into the ice cream again Nathan 🤣 Great episode series on a great Van 💪🏼👍🏻
So true! I think people are too quick to base their solar input on optimal conditions, not on realistic results. I've sure found out just how quickly solar conditions can turn, even on sunny days! And I agree entirely! The tech is advancing quickly and renewables are in the spotlight. They will only gain traction and become more and more efficient as the year pass. We have used the ol Jetboil from time to time, but still very impressed with our system overall 👍

For sure, so the heavy draw is all from the inverter and the distance between the battery bank and inverter is very small, therefore the resistance is minimal. However having 12V means that it's compatible with al the other 12V accessories fitted in the camper. Keep in mind too, that just because it can draw 450A doesn't mean it does 😆 We don't often exceed 200A when cooking or boiling the kettle. I think 24V is the future of these big systems though
Just ... WOW. Third world countries don't have this level of water and power technology! Excellent presentation once again Nathan. Fascinating overview. Just wondering if Reconn would pay my Hecs fees if I enrol in an engineering course so I can purchase one of their vans 😅
Hi Nathan, Your electrical system is very impressive. I enjoyed your overview on the Reconn. It is much better to have a large charge capacity ,really 5 hour charge is really all you get a day, couple of cloudy days with the induction/ inverter in use it doesn't take long to kill the batteries. I have hesitated to go to induction because of the current draw. We also use the Truma hot unit, some owners have experienced the mounting feet cracking off & the water in and out failing after the feet snap on corrugated rough tracks, now the van manufacturer has fitted a strap over the unit to the load of the mounting feet. Keep enjoying your trip, safe travels.
For sure, capacity is king and I agree with your comments regarding charging times. Induction is definitely a heavy draw, maybe a video I can produce in the future discussing this from a realistic point of view? 🤔 Thanks for the heads up on that common issue, I'll look into this before I hit the Cape!
Nathan, I have learned so much from your videos and especially about the Reconn. Coming from boating background there are a lot of similarities with caravaning with one exception being van payload. Curious if you have produced content on this or have good reference. Certainly coming up to speed on the towing capacity but curious about van payload capacity and how much capacity one might need. Lifestyles have usually over 650kg, 300kg of water leaves 350kg for other and finding it challenging if that's little or a lot for two people. Appreciate your wisdom!
Nathan your trilogy was excellent and thank you for taking the time to put it together. I loved all three episodes although my wife may be as impressed if she knew I'm now thinking of buying another 200amp lithium battery (after watching episode 3) to bring our total to 400amps. You can never have too many amps, right!. Cheers, Richard.
Haha 😆 good luck with the extra battery purchase 😆 No problems Richard, I'm glad people enjoyed the series and hopefully it can give many people ideas and plans with campers like these 👍
Do you run your external Bluetti panels in series or parallel? I am looking at doing similar for our Reconn. The 1050W on the roof is amazing when it full sun but parking in full sun is not always possible. I have two 200W blankets from Hardkorr (mostly because they are IP64 rated and can handle a bit of rain). They only come with an Anderson plug so connecting two in series will not be so straight forward. I am not sure if I want to swap out the plugs. I assume the only difference in running in series over parallel is that in series will give me 24V and therefore less of a voltage drop across the cables running between the panels and the regulator. I am curious of which way you went and thought?
