  • Whats up ya bunch of red blooded hicks!
    Myself and a couple buddies went out to the Snake River for a little catfishing. While we mostly drank beer and told stories all night but we did manage to land a couple catfish despite it being painfully slow fishing. Everyone in the Northwest talks smack about the catfish but Im here to tell ya THEY ARE DELICIOUS! On par with any white meat fish IMO.

    Seems like everyone here hates on anything that isn't a trout or salmon. Perfect size fish for eating. That carp looked fun. If you leave the fillet attached to the tail and flip it over you can take the skin off easier by holding the whole fish for leverage. Dinner looked good. 👍5

      RIGHT! I have had quite a few people talking smack about catfish but they are absolutely delicious. Ive converted most of them by now! Thanks for the tip, I usually dont have a problem but that 4inch filet knife made life difficult lol

    • @PeelingLine
      @PeelingLine 4 года назад +1

      @@Hickology And they are boneless fillets. The only bad thing are the bigger channel cats over 5 pounds start getting rubbery bits to their meat. Those 4" knives are great for small trout.

      The only good thing about a 5lb+ catfish is their belly meat! Those 12-15 inch cats are the best eating for sure. And all the ones ive ever caught out of the snake river are FULL of grain. Its almost like they are farm fish lol

      @@Hickology That belly meat is delicious but that is where all the toxins are stored so I shy away from eating it now.

    Nice my dude! that looked tasty! I love taking my catfish fillets and cutting them into nuggets. Then soaking them in franks red hot and then dip them in the Louisiana Cajun Fish Fry mix 🤤🤤

    I know that spot. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve never fished there...I stop in the truck yard you drive through to get down there to take a leak. Road trips man...that take you to hole in the wall places some times. If you ever get a wild hair, go down to a ways to Palouse Falls and hike into the bottom. There’s some huge channel cats in there. Just keep their heads up! If not, they bury their heads into the boulders.

      Just pick up after yourself Avery. And if you do find yourself in a place you don’t know if it’s leagal or not to camp, bring a sack of garbage WITH you. Lol I not saying to lie, but you can use that bag as a bargaining chip with any LE. And is it really camping if you’re fishing all night? Lol

    If it is very big, you might want to cut down alongside each "mud vein" going down through the fillet.Then you get four nice strips of catfish but you eliminate some of the muddy taste that they can sometimes have.
    Also, cutting a gill and letting them bleed out while they are still alive will help them to taste better.
