This reminds me of how I noticed a mass in my mom's abdomen in September this year, and when she went to get an ultrasound, it turned out she had a potentially deadly tumor. She got surgery, and is currently in Boston to make sure the tumor won't grow back. I'm proud of this girl for saving a family and their house.

Always get FIRE ALARMS, people, and make sure they are WORKING(and research fire safety). I'm British in the UK, and grew up knowing house fires happen, but never thought it would happen to my family. A bit like, u know fatal car crashes occur; plane crashes, etc - but u don't think it is likely to happen to u. One night when I was 15 (this is true), I awoke hearing a desperate banging on the door around 3am, and my parents going to investigate. I heard my Mum telling my Dad not to open the door, and when the guy banging yelled 'your house is on fire', my Dad said, 'no, it's not!' Perhaps it was sleepiness, but I thought 'Naw, there isn't - my parents say there isn't, they must be able to see' - and tried to go back to sleep. Less than 30 seconds later (after they actually looked) - 'KIDDDSSS!' So I rushed down stairs, and my parents were like headless chickens. But it turned out we were darn lucky this guy spotted the fire at the back from a street behind us, whilst going loo at 3am. I tried to get in burning conservatory to rescue hamsters in there, but heat and smoke were overwhelming, eventually resulting in fire fighter rescuing them to stop me keep trying. It sounds hilarious, but wasn't at the time - a very young firefighter put oxygen masks on the hamsters with me and my brother, whilst the poor hamsters were out flat on the street. One of the two survived. It turned out the cause was, we had a BBQ earlier that day, and even though the ashes had been left to cool for over 4 hours, and felt cold to touch, a fire still started after my Dad deposited them in a bin next to the conservatory. I can only hope if the neighbour hadn't spotted the fire (and ran 100s of metres in his pyjamas to bang on our door, such was the street layout -then initially encountered my Mum's defensiveness), the fire alarm would had woken us. But realistically, the fire would have had to reach the main hall, given where the alarms were. Given all the rooms below me would have needed to burn first, I would have likely suffocated (or at least passed out), given my room's location upstairs. None of this to scare anyone. JUST DON'T UNDERESTIMATE HOW IMPORTANT WORKING ALARMS ARE, ALL OVER THE HOUSE. ALWAYS TAKE SERIOUSLY POTENTIAL FIRE RISKS, no matter how unlikely in your mind. A few seconds extra precautions (run matches, candles, etc, under water when putting them out), could save u and ur home. You think it won't happen to you, but it has to happen to someone. Never take the risk, when firefighters will install alarms for free if u request. Even if u think ur house is fine, u can never be totally sure, and neighbours can inadvertently spread fire. Have alarms in every room, even fitted for free by the fire department. It isn't worth the risk.
