The RENAULT CAN CLIP diagnostic interface is a powerful tool designed to diagnose and troubleshoot Renault vehicles. Traditionally, it has been used in conjunction with a proprietary VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface), but with the emergence of J2534 pass-through devices, it's now possible to utilize a wider range of hardware for Renault diagnostics.
    What is J2534?
J2534 is a standard interface that allows communication between a computer and a vehicle's electronic control units (ECUs). It defines a set of protocols and functions that enable diagnostic software to access and manipulate vehicle data. J2534 devices are typically used for reprogramming, diagnostics, and data logging.
How to Use RENAULT CAN CLIP with J2534
Software Setup: Install the RENAULT CAN CLIP software on your computer. Ensure you have the latest version for optimal compatibility.
Hardware Connection: Connect your J2534 device to your computer's USB port and to the vehicle's OBD-II port. Make sure the device is recognized by your computer.
Driver Installation: Install the necessary drivers for your J2534 device. These drivers are usually provided by the device manufacturer.
Registry Configuration: In most cases, you'll need to modify the Windows registry to trick the CAN CLIP software into recognizing your J2534 device as a compatible VCI. This typically involves creating a new registry entry and specifying the vendor and product IDs of your device.
Software Configuration: Open the CAN CLIP software and select your J2534 device from the list of available interfaces. Configure the software settings according to your device's specifications.
Start Diagnosis: Once the software is configured, you can start diagnosing your Renault vehicle. The CAN CLIP software provides a wide range of diagnostic functions, including reading and clearing fault codes, viewing live data, performing actuator tests, and programming ECUs.
    VCI Compatibility
While RENAULT CAN CLIP is designed to work with its own VCI, it's possible to use it with various J2534 devices. Some popular compatible devices include:
It's important to note that not all J2534 devices are fully compatible with RENAULT CAN CLIP. Some devices may have limitations in terms of functionality or communication speed. It's recommended to research and choose a device that is known to work well with the software.
    Benefits of Using J2534
Using a J2534 device with RENAULT CAN CLIP offers several advantages:
Cost-Effective: J2534 devices are often more affordable than the proprietary RENAULT VCI.
Versatility: J2534 devices can be used with various diagnostic software for different vehicle brands.
Flexibility: You can choose from a wider range of J2534 devices to suit your needs and budget.
    Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues using RENAULT CAN CLIP with a J2534 device, check the following:
Drivers: Ensure you have the latest drivers installed for your device.
Registry: Verify that the registry configuration is correct.
Software Settings: Double-check the software settings to ensure they match your device's specifications.
Device Compatibility: If you're still experiencing problems, try a different J2534 device that is known to be compatible.
By following this guide and troubleshooting tips, you can successfully use RENAULT CAN CLIP with a J2534 device to diagnose and repair your Renault vehicle.
    Can Clip works with:
    Tactrix Open Port 2.0
    DrewTech Cardaq Plus
    Ford VCM2
    Daf VCI
    GM MDI2 Original
    Autel j2534
    Bosch MVCI
    and some others
    Can Clip doesn't work with:
    KTS
    VAS5054
    VXDiag

Good news, with newest version 2.2 driver update Clip now works with VNCI J2534 Nano/Godiag GD101 devices. It's probably the cheapest tool for clip now as it costs about $20 and AFAIK (correct me if I'm wrong) it's not a clone like the chinese OP2 clones but rather an original product. There's no direct download link for 2.2 anywhere yet, so the driver needs to be updated with the update tool that comes with older versions.

So, I tested a (probably clone) openport 2.0 with v216 on Scenic II, it worked, but somewhat unreliably - sometimes it finds only 1-2 modules, sometimes it finds almost all of them, it seems very random. Have you experienced something like this with unofficial VCIs? Any ideas what might be wrong? Or is it just how it works on j2534? Should I try older clip versions?

I have experience of my clients only because I'm not a diagnostician. But I think the question is that it's Passthru VCI. With Can Clip VCI must work ok,

    • @tocaamerillo431
      @tocaamerillo431 Год назад

@@MotorStateEng I did some rework on the clone based on what I found on the internet (some incorrect resistors used) and also tried an older Clip version, but the result is the same - a complete lottery when scanning a car. The VCI clone might be faulty somehow, but I'd imagine that a faulty VCI wouldn't work at all, or would lose connection - but once it finds a module, it stays connected. Weeeird.

Hi, I have bought clone tactrix openport 2.0. I have installed can clip 202 and 213 and it recognizes the VCI perfectly.
In version 202 it does not read the vehicle's VIN, in version 213 it reads the vehicle's VIN perfectly but it does not enter the car's calculators, it does not exceed 20%.
Is there any solution? Any version that works better?
    Thank you

try 216, I know older versions have some probeconfiguration issues with J2534 passthru. It's a bit hit-and-miss with the versions, you can also try 204 like in video.
