    I'm reading a novel right now about the life of Genghis Khan. In it, it mentions heavily wrestling as a way to prove manly strength. Now I see what it looks like. I would like to go to Mongolia one day. Very strong people.

    More information about Bokh, the folk style of Mongolian wrestling:
    First, the rules are the best. There are no weight class limits or time limits. Because of this, wrestlers are all giants. You have to wear traditional dress like you see in the video. The medal on your hat symbolizes your rank.
    In order to win, you have to make your opponent touch the ground with any part that isn't their feet. The rules and dress vary slightly by province. In some places, you're allowed to go down on your knee(s) without losing. In other words, the first man to throw the other man on the ground wins. This makes Bokh very similar to Judo and Sumo.
    Like all other folk wrestling, Bokh is extremely old. Current archaeological research shows Mongolian wrestling to be at least 7000 years old.
    The Nadaam festival in Mongolia happens in mid July where Mongolian wrestling compete to improve their ranks. Consecutive wrestling wins improve ranks.
    Bokh is also popular in China.

    I completely admire and respect this style. It's so similar to watching bears fight in the wild. It's such a natural form of wrestling. The only thing I'd say is missing is that it could include hitting, but then of course you lose some degree of incentive for the sport. If you don't have some limits like eliminating punching, the sport could easily lose some of its dignity and degrade into outright warfare on the field. But at the same time I'd love to see these athletes Duke it out. Wonderfully admirable sport, regardless! Some of these men would have easily been warlords, lords amongst men.

      Catch wrestling has its roots from English folk wrestling thats very similar to this and that is basically practiced by most mma competitors at least a little. Although this is very niche and would only ever find uses in a handful of situations, you would also have to adjust it a little to work under most mma organisations.

      There is a 9 flags made out of white horse hair right in the middle of the field. it’s an official Government flag during peaceful times (9 black flags are raised during war times). A Bokh just won the bout has to run to it while imitating falcon flight, circle it and bow to it.

    • @est19xx
      @est19xx Год назад

      They're not running away, they're going after the next guy immediately 😅💀
      They're imitating a falcon taking off. It comes from shamanistic practices where people would imitate various animals. The wrestlers flap their arms and run around the Mongolian flag. The loser of the match would then go under the others arm to end the match and as a sign of sportsmanship. The winner would then receive gifts such as pastries for winning the match.

    (I'm searching for those swords with a curved blade ((which doesnt get broader at the end like a scimitar)) and a straight hilt. The type of sword almost every Mongol in Netflix's Marco Polo wields. Or like the swords of General Radahn but a wayy less broad blade.)

Has the wrestlers' hat having a long pony tail any connection to the Ching people's hairstyle? Or else does the Jurchen people's pony tail hairstyle actually come from Mongolian tradition? I humbly seek for many experts' comments. Thanks. (By the way I love both Mongolians 🇲🇳 and Jurchen people. :) )

      They don’t have to, mostly Han , but for few provinces far away from Beijing, people’s pony tail is not that clear, they just shave the hard near the forehead still very similar to Ming dynasty.
