Very proud of you for embracing the dark side, Mikey. Opposite of you, I am also embracing a fear and just picked up my first start with single coils this week lol. Looking forward to you getting you hands on a Les Paul. Your life will never be the same lol. Happy playing!
I’m a fan of your playing and videos. As a intermediate guitarist, I would love to see an in-depth video on how you go about learning a song. Is it tab? Is it watching live recordings and going by sight and ear? Both? Learning songs is a ton of fun but not as easy as you or many RUclipsrs make it look in a quick video. Anyway, keep jamming!
you should try all of those methods for yourself and in time you will settle on the one you prefer. there are no right or wrong ways to learn anything for that matter, but tab is a good place to start. its easier than memorizing chords and learning by ear usually takes some time to train your ear. but who knows, you might excel at one method or another, you wont know until you try them
@DIABETES-BOY thanks for responding and for sure, I definitely have tried all 3. I think there is also something to watching how someone else learns and picking pieces from them. Maybe even learning the song alongside them.
Dude lowkey just from all the memes im so glad you actually embraced change. Like seriously. Maybe you didn’t show it as much before but I swear you used to have a fear of distortion. So much change 😢😢
As a single coil man myself, there ARE some humbuckers that are made for us! The PAF humbuckers from a vintage les Paul sound like a really beefy telecaster. They’re actually bright and twangy! If you ever get the chance to try a PAF style humbucker, itll change the way you see humbuckers
@@Tylerchaz humbuckers tend to be a lot thicker and fuller sounding, and have a lot less hum with distortion (hence the name). Single coils tend to sound thinner and have more attack to them, but hum a lot with distortion
Depends, for out and out rock n roll and thickening the sound humbuckers are the boy, but for me cutting through the mix with lead guitar it has to be single coil
A little recommendation if you want a guitar that does everything, get yourself specifically an epiphone les Paul ultra 2 with the nano mag active pickup, it’ll do the heaviest riffs and then casually play the nicest clean tones
You need to try a BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone pedal!!!! The small, double knobbed, variable eq let's you go from some classic rock tones to some beefy metal chuggs!! Please try one! I have an extra that I will pass on to you, if you can't get your hands on one. Run it through your clean channel and the pedal will do all of the work. It is SO worth it if you want to play with many rock tones. Great vid, and thank you. I always enjoy your format and wit! MT-2!!
thats a wild reccomendation for someones first metal/humbucker pairing LMAO maybe start with something tried and true ? ts9 with any good amp or a evh 5150 amp or distortion pedal both are the same
As a Les Paul humbucker player, I cannot get a good sound out of single coils on a strat. I have several now that are H-S-Hrail, and I dig the tone in all positions.
same boat...always wanted to love strats and wanted to get them to sound good. I have gotten close a few times, took playing a firebird to realize what my brain was going for.
It really depends. Like the bridge is pretty bad, but I like how the neck pick ups sounds. The guitar player in the band gang of four just ripped his bridge out, and I kinda wanna try that.
The problem is what you’re thinking of as a “good sound” i have 5 gibsons and 5 fenders. I stopped putting buckers in the fenders and stopped coil tapping the gibsons. And started using them for what they are born to do. Humbuckers and single coils are like the difference between a harley and crotch rocket. Same basic duty, but they are different styles
I like p90s and single coils more but the buckers have a great monstorous tone. Usually though, I use a two single coil one humbucker, or a double humbucker.
Humbuckers have a lot more versatility. HSH stratocasters are a must have for a collection. Can be a fender or a super strat from Kramer or ibanez, humbucker strats are just awesome.
Nice thing with Pickguard mounted Pickups and electronics is that you can make easily Swapable Loaded Pickguards using a single "Quick Connect"at the Jack.
Go HSS and never look back. Perfect transition for you but you get all the strat and tele stuff plussssss the metal of the bridge humbucker. Welcome to the dark side 🤘🏼
I like singles, I got 2 strats that have them, but at heart when I play what I like, I got a couple pawnshop squire starts with Duncan hot rodded humbuckers, always my go to guitars
fishman actually has a battery pack strat backplate for their fluence pickups!! I actually had the tim henson signatures put in my strat and it sounds amazing!!
i have that same fear of single coils i just bridged (no pun intended) the gap with a p90 in a iommi sg and i love it so next will be a sss strat (hopefully) my heros like hendrix n clapton used them so that helps, but i always went humbuckers cause im a metallica, megadeth, acdc, maiden etc type of guy but the more i get into the blues the more i want a sss
Single or humbucker they both have a purpose 😊so I have super strats in all configurations because they all just sound absolutely phucking awsome 😎 valve amps and pedals forever i refuse to comply 😂😂😂😂❤whats up mike😊
It happens eventually. I have only owned a Tele and a Strat in the 20 years I've been playing but I just got my first SG. It's an Epiphone but it has the P-90s and I love the way it plays and sounds.
Are you sure that the push pull pot puts it out of phase I would imagine that it splits the coil only because you said it changed the tone in all 3 positions but if it were an out of phase switch it would only effect the middle position as the phase will always sound the same when a pickup is in isolation (I could be completely wrong)
He’s becoming more and more metal
As a metal guitarist, I’m so proud 🥹
I’m scared as a punk guy
@@Robloxer9000 Why

Holy shit, he’s actually metal now, that was a nice tone, and a sick axe, always loved the iceman
No, he is not... he will never be
@@Einzatskommandoi find it funny yall wanted him to be metal… he’s been a funk n blues player for so long.
What a milestone for this channel. I can't wait to see him fully embrace the chug. 😊
it's so great seeing shorts creators move to long format videos. makes it feel like our collective attention span is finally improving.

96 Quite Bitter Beings riff will NEVER get old

I remember when this video was a minute old and only had 8 views but now it has more than 40k views
I remember when I first learned Laid to Rest, that fill before the riff repeats was an absolute nightmare for me to get right. Good stuff!
i love the effort you're putting in your long form videos!!!! they keep getting better and better. keep it up❤❤
Once you go humbuckers you dont want to go back
Ironically, I went from humbuckers to single coils (the buckers were just too beefy for my taste)
I went from buckers to dogear p90s
I’m new to guitar and was wondering what the difference is?

If you have a few more bucks to spend, you should try out the PRS Modern Eagle V, it is by FAR the most versatile guitar I’ve seen.

good job on finally using distortion the way it was intended

I think, that in 10 years, we would turn him into some progressive deathcore guitarist :DDD
pretty sure it is a Ibanez Iceman IC120. The body is smaller sized than a regular iceman
Second I saw that body shape I instantly knew it was the iceman
Less Paul’s are amazing and more versatile than you think, you can mix both pickups, using the 4 nobs to change them
A nanomag les Paul is even more versatile, it’ll do acousticy things and the heaviest metal
This type of guitar needs to be produce
Mikey has the best guitar videos on YT 🔥🔥🔥
Wait till this guy discovers neural dsp
At 2:17 I thought he was about to just start ripping “Am I Evil?”
Funk is in your blood so whenever you touch a guitar you have to play it😎
I have that exact iceman! I do t play it much anymore, but still fun every once in a while
I want to see when he discovers Dimebag Darrell
So happy to hear about your transition sister! 🏳️⚧️
This is a big change to make but just know we support your pickup re assignment

Wow this warms my heart
I see that ES in the background and it's adding to my theory that strat players like ES guitars(A theory that comes from myself as the only example)
Always love cky worship
Now you gotta get a guitar with triple coil pickups
Great Stuff as always! Keep it in 2024 🎉
Get this man some emgs
What a gorgeous iceman
The iceman is so sick
When you go buckers, you never get rid of those suckers
Something about this is oddly calming...
Im proud of you dude
The Iceman guitar looks more like the ICT700 model since the Paul Stanley model doesn't have pickup switch, at least to my eyes
The headstock says is not the Paul Stanley one

CKY - 96 quite bitter beings

Humbuckers every day!

i think the neck that was originally that ibanez was switched out, cant be sure though
