I agree. I’ve watched many many RUclips videos of exercises and tutorials. Nothing has helped me as much as this video has. I implement it daily and have a notebook I keep my logs in on my daily progress. I can really tell a difference on my alternate picking the most. Very thankful for this video
@@erikis4l Let's say I'm in the same case as you, what other exercises/videos do you recommend to learn how to apply scales, sweep picking applied to music? I have the necessary technique but I don't know where to study to move around the scales and the neck to apply the technique

I Would suggest a possible tip for any future videos like this; I know many people would disagree with me but I would suggest perhaps choosing a fully clean or cleaner tone for future videos like this because when certain tones like this one aren't used musically, they're just played scale-ish like in these exercises, the tone can begin to sound harsh and irritating after a while. I think a cleaner sound with be a better long term thing to listen to especially when players like me play along to this video everyday and especially at faster video speeds.
@erikis4l I disagree with this, distortion heavily masks mistakes and clean highlights any bad finger work, picking, also can show what muscles you need to work on in your hand placement.
This is the best Guitar exercise video ever, I have only been able to do Spider exercises properly and can already feel the difference in my playing. I am going to follow this video everyday. Thank you.
Mike, truly great stuff. couldn't keep up on the 16ths @ 95bpm at first but three weeks and I can do it at 105 no sweat now I also do it backwards and have invented a couple of my own. Thanks a million and please give us more.
Best session in youtube till date thanks a lot... i am struggling since months to get proper excercise to my fingers.. it was very helpful... better than any other in youtube.. moreover the best
I'm 52, and have wanted to learn the guitar forever!!! My hands have been VERY abused by my former employment. My hands are quite large and thick, so I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to stretch like you do, but I'll keep trying :-) And you lost me about 1/2 way through the lesson, I'm glad it's on YT so I can play it again.... And again... And again ;-) Thanks Mr Art of Guitar :-)
This video is great and actually started me actually PRACTICING for the first time since I started (13, I'm now 30). When I was a kid, "practicing" would be playing through the exam songs I needed for my grades and improvising in the scales I had been taught. Because that's still fun but it counts as "practice". My teacher was a great guy but not an especially technical player and we mostly used to do songs or improvising solos with scales, along with some theory. No real technique practice like this. Any new players out there, USE YOUR PINKY! It's easier to use your 3rd finger for everything because it's stronger but I never really used my pinky starting off, it wasn't instilled into me and it's still weak as hell all these years later. Thanks Mike!
i did a metalcore riff i'm trying to perfect since a few days after doing these exercices, and this is so much easier now lol, al:so great way for me to identifies my default huge thanks :)
Will try to pick this up as a general hand training session, not just for guitar. Crashed my motorcycle over 20 years ago and ended up with some sort of damage to my hands that has persisted ever since, even though I never needed surgury or anything, which ever since has limited me to about 4-5 minutes of playing before I had to give up from pain. Ended up discouraging me beyond keeping up practicing regularly. The past many years the old spade rarely got out, but i've started to feel an urge to pick it up again, quite strongly driven by all the help you can find here on youtube; I've found out a ton of stuff I've always done wrong, and learned a bunch about improving the simple urge to play by things like finding and having better tone and getting the gear set up better to ease playing. All amazing advice. ======>>>Something completely different: While basically going through the clip getting an idea of what it was all about, i noticed a possible odd side effect of the training regime: I started to sort of intuitively identify what mike is doing not so much from what i see as from what i hear!! Weirded me a little bit out for a moment.....Could it be that these apparently "dull" sounding exercises could actually end up training your "ear-finger" coordination (for the lack of a better term) and end up sort of learning you to audibly/intuitively "feel" by ear where the notes you want your fingers to play next are? Does this sound like complete nonsense? Or?
These are super important and I do these when I warm up. It really does make a difference in the long run. Most classic heavy metal songs are legato crazy and bend crazy as well.
I cannot thank you enough! One of my new year's resolutions was to elevate my guitar playing and this video has helped me overcome a plateau I was on for a good five years! I am playing cleaner and more accurate than ever before, and I'm playing for 11 years now. In three months I went from doing these exercises at 90bpm to doing these exercises at 145bpm. Tbf, I did spare tapping for now, as it is not a technique I am particularly interested in rn. Anyways, keep it up man!
I would like to tell that I would truly love this exercises when I was starting this is a gold for a beginner its very basic and very straight to the point for more crazy guys out there I would recommend John Petruccis tutorial which is insane particularly for sweeps and alternate picking! Thank you very much to find time to do this great series-if you have a time to do more advanced staff on string skipping tappings 6 string sweeps string skipping arpeggios I would be more than happy
Man every time I watch and learn something from one of your video exercise lessons I find about 4 more vids I have to add to my watch later Playlist. Thanks for sharing your experience 👊
Thanks! This is a great workout... really exposed some weaknesses! The arpeggio exercise is very nice and practical as well! sweeps are a goal of mine !!! Thanks a bunch Mike! Rock on!
thank you for this workout. a i am a 56 years old pro from israel who suffered a stroke 2 years ago. my left hand has'nt been the same since then. i practice this workout daily and it slowly helps me regain my skils.
Thanks so much for creating this! I tried the whole thing today and it really highlighted the weak points in my technique, as well as things that are very physically challenging for me.
it amazes me that people vote that many thumbs down. i've seen remarkable performances with numerous thumbs down. if they just tap the icon and leave without explanation how are we to know what they didn't like about it. anyway, there are some good exercises here to enhance ones playing. i certainly could benefit if i use this model. thank you and nice work.
This and the downpicking exercise have vastly improved my general playing on both my electric and acoustic guitars. It’s only been a week or so since I began doing them both consistently, so I hope so see a ton more improvement to come Thanks man!
I only started this yesterday but I noticed today that my fingers are so much more confident on the fretboard? Like when I'm playing it feels smoother and I'm so excited to keep practicing this stuff coz boy does it feel good to be playing better and getting better technical skills. Thanks Mike!
This is by Far the best class to start . I started classes locally and classes are wack . This is helping me more than I expected . I am a new subscriber and a fan. Salute
Super ideas out there among the regular usual stuff. I love the variation on the spider thingy and the string skipping exercice was really tricky. Thanks a lot for the inspiration !

Geez I've been playing for longer than I care to admit and really found some good, well-rounded stuff in this workout - only did variations of a spider exercise before this, *THANKS* for putting something together with a little bit of everything, really helps!
Thanks a lot man this is great! As if I just found the answer to my prayers. You the man buddy thanks for helping me out with this instead of waiting for a guitar teacher to show me how to fix my s***. You are serious help this video is fantastic!
I am just recovering from golfer's elbow and was looking to change my exercise routine. Well, I will take a chance with this workout definitely mostly at 72 or 80 bpm to start with. I will avoid any distortion though. It pissed me off... Good work! Keep on.
Yeah man that is a great workout. At first i thought it was childs play but about halfway through it started to get a little more real. I'll watch this video a few more times.

My recommendation is "normal sound would be best with out any effect" so that beginner can actually practice with you.
FINALLY someone that actually shows the exercise and explain why it helps!!!! I also subbed

Yeah, im not surprise that it doesnt have any dislikes, i cannot express in words how useful these are, thnk you VERY, very much!!
Ah dislikes always show up. I’m fine with it. I’ll just assume someone’s fingers were so worked out after the lesson they accidentally hit the wrong button. Haha.
hahaha!!
I just start with the first exercise and really focusing on accuracy and playing, after a few days of already noticing a significant improvement in my playing.

hows it been goin so far? whats your progressl ike?
I Would suggest a possible tip for any future videos like this; I know many people would disagree with me but I would suggest perhaps choosing a fully clean or cleaner tone for future videos like this because when certain tones like this one aren't used musically, they're just played scale-ish like in these exercises, the tone can begin to sound harsh and irritating after a while. I think a cleaner sound with be a better long term thing to listen to especially when players like me play along to this video everyday and especially at faster video speeds.
Agree, for repetition its much better to have a clean sound.
I disagree because if you practice with distortion you hear a lot more 'mistakes' for example no good string muting.
I disagree as well, clean tone doesn’t do anything for me and hasn’t for forty years lol
Much respect. Been self teaching for a while and this vid is gonna teach me some good stuff.
Sweet!
Thanks Mike!
man the extended stretches are brutal, they kill me everytime
Video has been my new morning routine , although i had to put playback speed .05x to slow the pace even downer , cheers 🤟🏻🤍
i did a metalcore riff i'm trying to perfect since a few days after doing these exercices, and this is so much easier now lol, al:so great way for me to identifies my default huge thanks :)
Or?
This is great. Definitely will be putting these into my daily routine. Thank you.
These are super important and I do these when I warm up. It really does make a difference in the long run. Most classic heavy metal songs are legato crazy and bend crazy as well.
This video is a real gem. I put the playback speed X2 and do this everyday as my warm-up routine.
This is THE video. No more wondering what to warm up with. Thank you!
Yeah, I skip the tapping portion as well
I would like to tell that I would truly love this exercises when I was starting this is a gold for a beginner its very basic and very straight to the point for more crazy guys out there I would recommend John Petruccis tutorial which is insane particularly for sweeps and alternate picking! Thank you very much to find time to do this great series-if you have a time to do more advanced staff on string skipping tappings 6 string sweeps string skipping arpeggios I would be more than happy
This is THE BEST guitar workout video I've ever seen !!! Thank you !!! :)
I I’ve these type of vids. Please keep them coming.
Great lesson video, thanks for posting this video!! The Tabs definitely helped! 👍
So much done in 30 mins (maybe longer with hitting spacebar in between). Best workout I've come across, thanks!
This is exactly what I’ve bern looking for. Thanks, Mike.
Rock on!
Hey Holly, thanks!
thank you for this workout. a i am a 56 years old pro from israel who suffered a stroke 2 years ago. my left hand has'nt been the same since then. i practice this workout daily and it slowly helps me regain my skils.
I really dig this video. It’s kinda like the John Petrucci DVD and it’s full of different approaches to finger individuality. Loving it!
This and the downpicking exercise have vastly improved my general playing on both my electric and acoustic guitars. It’s only been a week or so since I began doing them both consistently, so I hope so see a ton more improvement to come
Thanks man!
Best guitar workout ever NO CAP
I only started this yesterday but I noticed today that my fingers are so much more confident on the fretboard? Like when I'm playing it feels smoother and I'm so excited to keep practicing this stuff coz boy does it feel good to be playing better and getting better technical skills. Thanks Mike!
This is by Far the best class to start . I started classes locally and classes are wack . This is helping me more than I expected . I am a new subscriber and a fan. Salute
You're amazing man I've learnt so many things from you keep uploading this kinda videos and god bless you!
thank you so much for this practice! been playing guitar for 9 years now and this is really good for me
Super ideas out there among the regular usual stuff. I love the variation on the spider thingy and the string skipping exercice was really tricky. Thanks a lot for the inspiration !
This is amazing. Everything I was looking for in 1 video. Thank you so much! Pull offs are hard but this exercice is very helpful . Who am I kidding everything here is helpful
Thank u Mike it's very helpful to learn the guitar exercises. I am practising all the day ❤❤❤❤
This is so perfect, thank you! I can already see my improvement in my playing. Gonna do this every day right when I wake up and right before I sleep.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. It's become part of my daily practice!
yaaaas this is exactly what i need, just do this once a day, then play rocksmith a ton. Should whip me in to shape in no time
thunderbolt73 rocksmith is great for learning how to play.
Has it worked well?
I played rocksmith a ton when i started playing guitar, It helps, allot
Warm downs, play even slower when you are about to finish for the day.

I actually do that when my hands get tired so i just play a little slower and I usually put the guitar down after that
Jari Satta dude ive noticed my practicing gone slower and i am beyond sleepy everyday. I think ive reached that point where i need some 15 hours of sleep to recover.
Same that’s why I practice in the afternoon at tea time so I can rest ^-^
I never sleep. Maybe that’s why I suck. I haven’t been able to sleep since 1999. That’s when I gave up pot and booze 😑
jsut did this again... it is an amazing video, my overall playing improves so much. thanks again. you are a master to many.
Geez I've been playing for longer than I care to admit and really found some good, well-rounded stuff in this workout - only did variations of a spider exercise before this, *THANKS* for putting something together with a little bit of everything, really helps!
I love the exercise it’s not boring thank god and I feel I’m getting better with it!👍🏼
This is like taking lessons, thank you very much!
Great shirt man. Buffy was a solid show!
Thanks man ! helped me!
Those extended stretches are so fun.
Aewsome video, was searching for a video just like this to start practicing, loved it!!
Just came across this video and am eager to get started on it. Thank you for posting.
It's SO Useful Exercise For me..
