Doesn't the music have to reflect the song story? The song is about a sinking life, of alcohol, drugs etc. with mournful sounds adding to a nights mourning, into the sadness of a failed life. While this version is played well, it is too 'glib, almost conversational happy The story found in the lyrics, feelt and you will find there is nothing light about it.
