How to remove the VTC actuator without removing the intake camshaft on this type of engine 5A2 (K24)? Can you post a video on it? Thanks a lot for a very good info
@Matt Shaughnessy new sub here. Been binge watching your vids. You really are the friendly neighborhood mechanic. Great info too. I have 94 Chevy Corsica 3.1, 97 Infiniti i30/maxima, 01 Ford sport trac 4wd, and 03 bmw 530i. All high mileage. Surprisingly the Corsica has the least at 120k but has been sitting 5 years. I think I'm going to get a Haynes manual and try to face some of my mechanic'ing fears with it. Selling the 530i with 178k miles. The Ford and Infiniti are about to pass 200k. I'm sure they need some work/service. I watched your service vids. Should I be looking to do timing belt/chain and water pump on the Infiniti and Ford soon? The Infiniti is a daily driver and I hope to get it to 300k+ like I've seen some go.
I have a 2017 accord manual with kseries earthdreams I always wonder this but couldn’t find the answer.. If my tensioner fails, or my timing chain snaps or jumps, does it damage the valves and engine and completely ruins it like in other car brands, or it has the safety system that shuts off the engine like on toyotas? Thank you in advance
I'm building the bew type r 2021 and it has the same issue timing chain is coming loose after turning the motor over by hand. So would the oil pressure keep it tension on it?
I accidentally turned the exhaust camshaft clockwise independently while the wrench was on there, does this cause the pistons or engine to be out of time ?
someone on RUclips was saying to remove the spring thats inside the cam and stretch it out further so its applying more pressure what are your thoughts on that idea?
I had that rattle for about 3 years before i came to find out about the tensioner. Rattle went away after i replaced it but never did the reset. Can i still do it with the existing or will i need to get a new one ?Note. I replaced it almost two years ago Thank you in advance for the reponse
I have a 2015 Honda Accord k24w1 earth dream engine my does this weird thing, where I am above 60 and when I let off the gas the rpm’s go up instead of being stable go from 1,500 to 3000. When I put my foot back down it jump ups.
This is normal, and intentional on Hondas part. The k24w1 (earthdreams) is paired to a cvt transmission. Honda has programmed the engine and transmission to hold a higher rpm when going at highway speeds. This way the engine makes more torque sooner for better highway passing abilities.
I was going to perform TSB 19-019 to replace the tensioner but now I’m concerned. You’re saying you did the service bulletin which broke the new tensioner immediately upon startup, the timing chain jumped a tooth, and the car misfired? Why would Honda not include the “move the piston out a notch” in TSB 19-019 if it caused all that to happen?
I ran into this issue replaced the tensioner started engine loud whine in front of the engine then went away and threw a cam crank fault. Repair instructions say to bring the tensioner down to the first notch or else it will damage the new one which I over looked working to fast.
yes but actually this problem is much more reported by the newer model years. Not sure why (could come down to as little as a Q/C engineer in the company leaving that year or a slight change in tooling/metallurgy) it still happens on some 2013's but they seemed to have Q/C down really well at the start of the 9th gen. If I run into this problem I'll leave a reply, i got a 13 coupe and I'm gonna take it into the shop to get looked at next week
as someone who works for Honda i can attest to the fact that ALL HONDA's earth dreams engines are a mechanical and technological nightmare do not buy them even a d16a6 engine is better
Wow this was great work guys, is there anything that I need to watch for on the 2006 CRV timing chain, VVT sprocket replacement?

Thats great information. Can you share the link of the article?

Honda shit the bed on this. They should have engineered a fix and recalled the product. Lost a customer here.
Do you have the link to the article fix?

Does the tensioner create the same issue on the 8th gen accord k24 4 cylinder?
I accidentally turned the exhaust camshaft clockwise independently while the wrench was on there, does this cause the pistons or engine to be out of time ?
someone on RUclips was saying to remove the spring thats inside the cam and stretch it out further so its applying more pressure what are your thoughts on that idea?
No thoughts? Basically he was saying it was the tensioner that was the issue and that it was set to short from the factory
I have the same kinda issue on my K24A2 CRX. It's not an Earth Dreams.
My 2016 accord just started doing that
How can i fix it
Or how can i explain it to a mechanic so i wont get ripped off
Can you please help me with the Crankshaft timing marks, because on the timing chain it got two Gold for the Crankshaft
Were you able to figure it out. Let me know if you need help
Could i first replace the tensioner and see what happens

Wait until it breaks again. Not all of them do it. Just the lucky ones 😁
I drive a 2014 Honda Accord EXL Hybrid and cannot find which Honda (K24?) engine designation/number I have. Anyone out there know?

@@mycivicbroke4406 good info, I'll keep this in mind if I ever have this issue
@@mycivicbroke4406 where does it say that? what year and model?
what did you end up doing?
Where that link to the article??
^^?
He did posted on the other video. Showed the steps that he did on the new tensioner. Just check that out
assuming this is the same for the 2013 accord earthdreams engine

Wow. Why doesn't HONDA do a recall and fix all the defective DREAM engines ????????????????

Im doing a head job on one im trying to find head bolt torque specs and cant find anything on this engine
