Absolutely a piece of working art! Stunning, beautiful just there isn't any word to say how nice this layout is. I live on the west coast here in California. My other half she is from The East Coast, Massachusetts. Her brother lives in Manhattan one block from "the ball". Has for about 30 years. My first visit with her I too was amazed. Love that city. The one thing that you got (in detail) was all the water tanks on top of buildings. That detail is something that got me when I saw your layout. It was everywhere. Again yhank you for sharing.. it is exceptional!
Beautifully conceived and executed. Finding this place in the real city would be magical - ! The overall color and texture are very evocative: the moody sky, industrial steel windows, rusted sheathing, planking on the the dock, your cobblestones (Belgian block no doubt), and the dirt. Enjoyed you Facebook page and the photo with "pigeon control" cat!
I so admire the craftsmanship that folks like Chris put into their work in N-scale! I struggle to work in detail on my own O-Scale layout. Chris has done so much in a small area and his work is to be commended. I especially like his approach of not being constrained by being married to one location, but by picking little parts of multiple locations to go into his work. Great video John!
Love your video. Good presentation. Historical recreation the main motivation for my layout. 1955 was a really good year for me. It’s the year I was born. LOL I’d love to watch an operating session if you have or are doing one.
Hey, Chris, neat pike. N scale sure has come a long way in the past ten years. Believe it or not, a couple of buddies and I drove up to the Big Apple one New Year's Eve back in the early 80s and watched the ball drop with all the other fools in Times Square. It's an experience I'll never forget but trust me, you can see the ball better on T.V..
You have a great point to point ,I know what you mean for limited space, wife and I live in mobile home and space is limited and you layout has given me great ideas to keep a layout of some sort, hope to see more
First time I've seen someone talking about using real building materials instead of simulating them. Quikrete, grout and real dirt, great stuff. All the handwork on the dock, factory windows and cobblestones really pays off, the layout has a real aged feel to it. Agree on the overcast choice too, every time I've been to New York it usually is.
Wow, what an incredible, compact layout! Chris did an amazing job of researching and building structures for it. His Nabisco complex marks my favorite. Before this video, I've never seen ACTUAL concrete used in layout scenes depicting concrete. Thanks for bringing this layout tour to RUclips. It serves to show how space constraints don't necessarily limit the level of creativity and fine craftsmanship that can go into a layout. -from Tom Pilling
Beautiful layout. Well thought out. The scratch builds are great. A lot of obvious effort. The only thing I disagree with is.... the 50’s were not a hard time to live in. The most productive, peaceful, decade in my life. I would trade 2019 for 1955 any day. Thanks for sharing your stunning layout.
Absolutely beautiful layout. I really like his attention to detail & how he blended various city scenes into a cohesive model railroad. Thank you for sharing.
I really love this layout. It stimulates the imagination the same way walking The High Line on Manhattan’s west side does. The Nabisco Factory was an actual industry that was served by The New York Central’s High Line and the structure is currently home to Chelsea Market - ironically owned by Google’s parent company and it is possible that the RUclips engineering behind streaming this video is coming from that building!
Great layout. Mr Brimley has built a gem. FWIW After the 1920's the Central had removed their trackage for the most part off the streets in Manhattan and onto the Highline.
Thanks for sharing. Amazing work. Good to see another NYC N-scale fan. I live in NYC and to me the look/feel of your layout is more Brooklyn or Bronx than Manhattan. If you come back to NYC area you should visit The Model Railroad Club, Inc., in Union NJ, about 45 minutes from NYC.
Wow, what an amazing layout. The craftsmanship is outstanding. I have been concerned about starting my layout and this sure helps in regards to size and what can be done in a limited space.
Wow, that's some incredible modeling, well done Chris. I love the structures, and the way different prototype buildings are mixed together. John, I CAN tell they're pigeons! LOL
I like how he modeled somewhere that was far from him, making him do more research. Also, how he incorporated many different places to build a city such as New York.
I really love the overall design of this layout! It's nearly the same construction I plan on making for my HO layout (drawers built in, etc.). Awesome video and such an amazing job on that layout!
Hi Chris, many thanks for showing us that imagination mixed in with an essence of prototype works so well. I’ve never been to New York but for me your layout captures exactly what I think it would (or would have) looked like. A couple of questions if I may, what track did you use? and how do you manage uncoupling? Kind regards Dean
Excellent modeling !!!! I'm from Detroit so I love the dirty dingy railroad scenes.
One of my favorite layouts
As a New Yorker I'm 72 years old, really enjoyed and appreciated your era. Well done
Beautiful art. Show you don’t need mega layout to enjoy this great hobby. Wonderful work.
So true!

Next to the Nabisco building, you have a background building from Broadway and 28th street. I love that building!
impressive detail for N
Thanks for sharing your magnificent modeling skill, Chris. You've made a thoroughly enjoyable video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very cool and absolutely beautiful! And the guy is very likeable.
This is absolutely amazing. The level of detail is so great. Wow
Those hand carved cobbles... wow

very nice
Very fine work!!
John, Thanks for recording this, and Chris, thanks for the great tour! The craftsmanship is amazing, and I hope all the pigeons stay on the layout!
those city chickens don't stray far from home typically, lol
this layout screams excellence. I only wish it was bigger so there was even more to see, this is very fine work

Great looking layout Chris! As a native NYer', it's nice to see someone model NYC, including the pigeons! Neal from ECC!
Nice to see a small N scale layout tour. Really neat layout and amazing craftsmanship. Thank you.
On the Water Front coming to life in N scale, Great video
Great shelf layout Chris. Love your attention to detail. Excellent craftsmanship and I like your draw storage.
Incredible layout Chris. I love the idea of the sliding storage drawers underneath the layout.
Great layout. Mr Brimley has built a gem.

Thanks for sharing this. I have been listening to older A Modelers Life podcasts, I I listened to Chris's interview a few weeks ago.
Wow, that's some incredible modeling, well done Chris. I love the structures, and the way different prototype buildings are mixed together. John, I CAN tell they're pigeons! LOL
The pigeons stole the show for me! :))
I like how he modeled somewhere that was far from him, making him do more research. Also, how he incorporated many different places to build a city such as New York.
Great layout Tour, the scenery is a masterpiece. Thank you for showing this beautiful layout
Model railroading as art.

Really like these kinds of videos.
