I lost my daughter Justice 8 years ago. She was stillborn. My nurse encouraged me to hold her but I refused.I was afraid and I regret that to this day.I remember my nurse asking me if she could hold her and bring her over to me. So that I could at least see her. So I said okay and I thank God that she did. That nurse played a very important role in my life and I am grateful for her. Thank you so much for this video. It was nice to hear your point of view
I’m currently in nursing school and planning on going into L&D. This video definitely opened my eyes to another aspect of this specialty. Thanks for sharing!
thank you so much for posting this, i’m really interested in becoming a labor and delivery nurse but death was my biggest concern. your videos are really helpful and they give information that you can’t find by searching the internet!!
Than you so much! I’m a nursing student and having a hard time emotionally coping with all kinds of patients dying, I want to help them so much it’s so important to me but it’s so hard
Do you care for the mom until discharge after an IUFD, neonatal loss, etc or do you transfer them to postpartum? How many hours does the family stay in L&D until transferred to postpartum? I'm trying to see what other hospital's bereavement policies are.
Wow. I'm not a nurse, but you explained your points so well, it was fascinating... even if the topic is the worst thing on Earth. You really love your job and care for patients, it's so evident... and too much of a rare thing, unfortunately.
Love this video, this topic was on my mind this past week. I start my very first nursing job as a night shift labor and delivery nurse on the 18th and I am so nervous. I wish there was a list of things to review or learn before starting in this area. It’s one of those specialty areas and we only had 3 days in L&D during clinicals. I just feel so overwhelmed but excited?! Any tips or advice you have for working or what to study would be SO appreciated! 💕 Thanks!
Caitlin Willson I just finished my orientation (3 months) ..i still dont know everything. In the beginning i thought i would read & cram every little bit of EVERYTHING L&D...but trust that you WILL learn as you go. Ask questions, write things down, review what you experienced on your days off, pray for a great preceptor. Trust i was i nervous wreck too, this is my 1st hospital job, i start nights tomorrow. Good luck to you!
Amy Nelson mine is 12 weeks too! I’m glad it went well for you! I feel like I would be so much better prepared going to like a med surg floor but this is uncharted territory 😂 I’m just reviewing the basics and EFM as well as meds for the time being and hoping for a good preceptor! Thanks! Good luck 🙂
@amy nelson said it perfectly. I would enjoy your free time right now and not worry to much about prepping. when you start ask lots of "why" questions to your preceptor and obgyn/midwife, takes notes/make cheat sheets, and when you come home reflect on what you learned. you'll do great! nursing is a profession where youre constantly learning so just enjoy the journey. keep me posted :)
great video - do you have staff debrieffings ? Your so right about self care. Could you do a video on maternal death in your setting - thank you again.

it can be extremely tough. make sure youre taking care of yourself outside of work so your not taking those emotions and stress home!

I would like to work as a labor and delivery nurse. What tips do you have to land an interview on this unit as a new grad?!
j p hey! I have an entire video on how to get hired on labor and delivery as a new grad on my channel!
Is it normal to cry after experiencing your first fetal demise as an L&D nurse ?
i think so! we're only human
Thank you for responding ! I thought so but I didn’t know if maybe it was unprofessional. I love your videos !!💛💛
Lol, the shirt. great video! I'm on an L&D rotation rn in nursing school, would love to work there.
