hey! I really want to be a labor and delivery nurse I just graduated high school and I'm working my way up right now I'm a cna/pct in the hospital and I plan to start a lpn program next year I just had to say this video is very informative and helpful and it motivates me if that makes sense lol thanks for this vid!💖
In India it's not the norm for the partner to be present except in some really expensive hospitals. I hope I get nice nurses like you... You are so nice!!
Thank you for this video this was very informative! I just got accepted into a accelerated BSN program and I am incredibly interested in L&D, I could also see myself in NICU, it will be hard to decide. But I love working with mothers and my passion is in women's health.
I'm starting nursing school next year and I wasn't sure which type of nurse I wanted to be but thank you so much! I'm very encouraged to become a L & D nurse❤
Thank you for all that you do!!!!! its a tough job!!! my entire team was great when l delivered my baby boy. The experience is encouraging me to go back to school!!!
Thanks for this video. I'm even more excited! This is exactly what I know I wanna do...(NICU is my #2 choice) I've got a looong way to go tho before I get to this point! I'll be applying for Nursing school this coming June for the Fall semester at my school. I subbed. Thanks again. Very informative
This was very informative.. thank you! I'm currently in LPN school and will be done in August but i am now more interested in L&D than ever after doing my OB clinicals!
Hello I just so happen to have this video recommended to me to watch from RUclips and I don't even know how they knew I wanted to work in the field of labor & delivery because I never looked in the search engine for it either..Super Crazy!!!....lol....However, Im in school as we speak right now and I have 4 more prerequisites to take then I take the TEAS test!!! yikes!!!! ;P I'm super nervous!!! & I'm excited at the same time. This video was very informative and detail as your daily routine of a Labor & Delivery nurse which I so love...I also think its incredibly awesome that you get to first witness new life coming into the world for the 1st time what a blessing!....Thanks again and I can't wait to start in the nursing field someday.
This video was so informative, thanx for posting! I start my new job as a L&D RN on Monday! I super excited! My orientation is about 5 months long too.
I am interested in becoming a labor and delivery nurse. Did you get your RN first? If so, how did you move into labor and delivery from there? Are there any other extra classes or experience you might recommend?
Melissa Gross yes, you go to nursing school, pass the NCLEX/become an RN. Not all L&D units hire new grads, but if they do, you can work on L&D straight out of school. If not, you can get your experience on a different unit (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU, etc..) and later apply to L&D.
I have been looking over the entire internet! please help me. I want to be the person who the doctor hands the newborn to. i want to do the Apgar test and clean baby up and give baby to mom. It's between L&D nursing and scrub tech or nurse. im just so confused 😕
With charting do you chart after or during or just take notes along as you go then chart at the end or on down time what’s the best way to manage charting? Thank you
Love this. I start my first RN position next week in L&D and I am so excited! I did do my final internship there so I have some idea of what I will be doing but it was good to hear what exactly. As a student we were not allowed to do a few things that I can do now like vaginal exams and fetal strip charting.
junior in high school and I was in between exactly what nurse position I would want to do and I believe I want to be a L & D nurse !! Exactly how long did it take for you to become a labor and delivery nurse ??
What is the difference between the nursery jobs and what you do? I’m 16 and interested in becoming a labor and delivery nurse or something in that area. Also, did you have to go through general medical school or was it specialized for most of your schooling? Thank you!!
nursery nurses care for the infant after birth and during their hospital stay. I as a labor and delivery nurse care for the mom (mostly) during and immediately after delivery of baby. I went to nursing school and got by bachelors in the science of nursing (BSN). I was not trained to be a L&D nurse in nursing school. hope this helps!
do labor and delivery or mother baby or gyn floors use cnas? I am planning on getting my cna and want to have experience in L&D or obgyn field if possible. I shadow in the or with anesthesia but am planning on shadowing anesthesia for OB and then frm there shadowing l and D nurses. but for now I was hoping to get an answer if you know about the use of cnas!
it depends on the hospital. they may use something similar but they don't call them CNAs. Try looking at nurse-related job openings at hospitals near you to see what they offer. hope this helps :)
thanks for the video! Some questions: why did you choose labor and delivery Nursing? do you have any plans to advance your education to become a midwife? what is the most stressful part about being a L&D nurse? I.e what would constitutive a “bad day?” What are the most common challenges you face being a new L&D nurse?
NurseAggz Hey!Kinda late but I'm doing some research on L&D nurses and I'm not sure if you mentioned this in the video but do L&D nurses help new parents with the baby for example teach them how to bathe the baby or teach them about how to care for the newborn??
for the most part, no. that's the job of the nursery aka neonatal nurse. at some hospitals (smaller hospitals), the the l&d nurse also act as the postpartum and baby nurse. at my hospital the l&d nurse does care for the healthy babies the first hour of life. we'll do their vital signs, assist with breast feeding/skin to skin.
So proud of you girl. Im also a "new grad". Graduated June 2016 and have been off orientation for 2 months now. LOVE IT. If possible, can you discuss how to deal with horizontal violence? Because wow, love my job, but the violence?! YIKES
It's basically violence (bullying, tormenting etc) that happens amongst individuals within the same line of work. So nurse on nurse violence is one of them. It can happen in many professions.
Hey thanks for the info! I love learning specific terms to describe various behaviors. I have heard that even some older nurses will bully new female physicians.... Now I am scared.
NurseAggz awesome!! Do you really need to do math as a nurse? I know in nursing school you do but actually doing math as a nurse tho? I'm in accelerated program taking me prerequisites can't wait to go in labor and delivery ☺️🙏
FINALLY! A nurse who loves her job lol! I was getting a little disheartened by all the "I hate nursing" videos....

Is it the L & D nurse’s responsibility’
To administer newborn vaccines?
That’s either the nursery nurse or postpartum nurse
That’s the part I don’t want to do like admitting vaccines, shots or anything like that
Thank you for all that you do!!!!! its a tough job!!! my entire team was great when l delivered my baby boy. The experience is encouraging me to go back to school!!!
Thank you! I hope you have more L&D tutorials! Been trying to get in L&D for years!
Melissa Hall no problem :) if you have any ideas on what videos would be helpful please share. Thanks for watching!
From a patient perspective, I admire what you and so many other nurses do. God bless you!

How do you remember everything to ask the patient ?
It’s possible to push and breathe at the same time with practice . I’m not sure why most women hold their breath. 🤔

Catherine Joseph Thanks for your questions. I’ll make a video answering some of these!!

That happens too. It sucks but you just gotta stick it out and make them respect you by doing your job well. That's the only advice I have :/
Hey was this your first job after school?!
yes :)
NurseAggz awesome!! Do you really need to do math as a nurse? I know in nursing school you do but actually doing math as a nurse tho? I'm in accelerated program taking me prerequisites can't wait to go in labor and delivery ☺️🙏
Tiffany B I know nurses (my sister) she’s OKAY with math like a decent mind of it, but she still was hired!!
Tiffany B I would say no just because I’m not the greatest in math and I seem to be doing just fine 😉
