I think there is more to audio than being a scientist as well. One person does not know everything and there is always something to learn no matter how much knowledge you have obtained.

Just like any consumer products, we don’t need to buy the latest. Enjoy what we already have. If a new product pops up, worthy of the investment, it’s ok to buy. I always keep a set of just four IEMs, I sell those that I don’t use.

I was REALLY into the audio scene, especially iems since I been rocking the same Shure 215 for 6 years, and seeing how far (and cheap) this goes nowadays. But then I got an used Shure 535 and Moondrop Variations and think to myself: “maybe I can’t hear sound as good as I think I am” and stopped with the hobby for now.
Is it worth studying audio science at Stanford? What do you plan on doing after graduating

I'm not really huge on consumer hobbies which require low effort in general. The Audio hobby is one of those. I partake in it, but I'm not under the impression that it's a good hobby. I've for the most part found everything I wanted, but continue to watch videos and learn about audio science as I find that's the only fulfilling part of this hobby left. I feel like the majority of people in this hobby (particularly those in subjective circles) continue chasing the dragon, buying products over and over without having any kind of end goal in mind, outside of getting the rush from a constant consumerist dopamine cycle. The companies (and paid reviewers online) knowingly prey on these people, creating endless hype for new products which are pretty much the same as old ones and in subjective circles often times make zero difference outside of placebo. I just generally don't recommend anyone get into this hobby, because consumer grade TWS earbuds are more than good enough for regular people (in part due to the advance of audio science) and I don't think the time and money one usually invests in to receive better audio is really worth the reward for those people. It's better to find a different hobby that gives more of a sense of reward and accomplishment from actual effort.

Imagine if only 10% of the audiophiles picked up a serious instrument and practiced, studying earnestly. They’d still have music and spend less time worrying about $22K speakers or room treatments. Live music will win every time.

I don't idolize ANY of them (esp Golden Sound) and Skylab is the only reviewer who maintained my interest long enough for me to read his reviews. He left Head-Fi years ago and I haven't sought him out but he pops up here and there. All I ask of an audio reviewer is that they are entertaining and that the product description bears some resemblance to reality. Please link us to your research so that we may be dazzled by your brilliance - a mere undergrad degree hasn't equipped me for the task but I'll give it the old college try. Thanks in advance.

I do know people say that anime , games are for losers etc. but a hobby is a hobby .
Also i know people that are into cars and watches. I am not one of them and i dont understand how can they spent so much money on car or watches. But i do not call them a loser. Its their hobby. Not everything need to do with analytical etc. But imo for audio graph doesn't give you the full picture.
And imo headphone to each of us is different. You may say the headphone is trash but others like it. You might like a headphone but others hate it.
Same goes for reviewers. Amazing headphone etc. when i bought it i was in shock there's nothing special about them. Some do wow me. But people have their taste. And i do believe you have a hobby too.
But please dont call people that like to collect keyboard , headphone losers. Even though you dont understand why they collect them in the first place.
For me collecting keyboard because of the layout , different switch, different feel and sound. Also the joy and pain of modding them.
For headphones i like how different headphone sounds. And how well the headphone can be with eq.
But now i only realised i use more speakers than headphone. And i rather save my money for speakers rather than headphone. And speaker sounds so good. Imo.

i have done countless abx tests to further my understanding of sound quality, which is definitely science
