      From a quick google it looks like most of the original main cast did both English and Spanish which is something I was really disappointed about with Coco. I'm really curious to watch it in Spanish now because I was also disappointed in the Spanish translation of Coco, it often times wasn't the most natural way to say something or just didn't have as much power as what they said in English. So maybe they actually did a good job with this one! That would be fun!

    • @KimmySandy
      @KimmySandy 2 года назад +17

      @@ThatOneLadyOverHere It's hard to adapt from English to Spanish, mainly because in Spanish we use way more words to say the same thing, so it's hard to fit it with the mouth movements that were designed in English. Thus, a lot of times the translators decide to just change the overall meaning of some phrases so they make sense in Spanish. That said, I did like the work they did dubbing this particular movie, since the dubbing cast was all colombian and I feel that Spanish makes everything sound more dramatic, and yes we love the drama hahaha. I haven't watched it in English yet tho, but I also didn't watch Coco in English because it just felt wrong hahahaha (the songs of Encanto tho, I love them both in English and Spanish. I always find myself singing them in Spanglish).

    • @ThatOneLadyOverHere
      @ThatOneLadyOverHere 2 года назад

      @@KimmySandy The English of Coco was good, it reflected the culture of Mexican Americans since a lot of them worked on the movie. So the Spanglish is authentic Spanglish! 😆 I just wasn't as impressed with the Spanish translation, too many little things that just kinda fell flat. I don't like to translate, so I really shouldn't judge how well they did, it's a hard thing to do. But the one example I can think of is in English when she is beating up the computer she calls it a "devil box" while in Spanish she just says "horrible maquina," I totally get why she didn't say the same thing in Spanish since caja del diablo is incredibly sinister, but "horrible maquina" just doesn't have the same punch to it. And I didn't feel like they ever made up for the lost jokes in any other ways, so it just wasn't quite as good. But that's just my personal opinion, and it's been years since I watched it in Spanish, I just remember not feeling like as much love went into the Spanish script as the English one.

    I highly recommend the fan-made mixes that focus on Dolores and Camilo's parts of the song, that go through closer to fifty languages in total.
    Some of my favourites are Japanese Isabela and Camilo (he's having WAY TOO MUCH FUN), Greek Dolores, and basically all singers for Taiwanese Mandarin. Basically (almost) any Asian and/or Pacific Islander language works for Dolores, especially South Asian - Hindi, Urdu, Farsi, Mandarin, Cantonese - because they tend to be smoother languages. Lots of soft "sh" noises, even the guttural stuff is less overt than in, say, German or Scots or something. So as long as the actor doing her voice has understood the character, they're basically gonna get a flawless result for Dolores in those languages. Kazakh sounded great too!

I've heard, that the new version has to be translated back into english, so the Disney /or whoever is in charge ( maybe LMM?) can approve how the meaning has been changed.

      @zara4leafclover 2 года назад +9

      It depends. Every country is very particular about dubs. I’m sure with Disney it must be very tightly regulated. But for example Brazil and Portugal take very different approaches to dubs. Portugal try’s to dub as close to the original meaning which sometimes sacrifices rhythm (Portuguese has more syllables per word then English). While Brazil focuses more on making sure the rhythm stays the same which ends up with a looser translation with more slang or specific Brazilian words. Each is a valid way to translate but it just shows how with two countries with the “same” language how different the end result might be.
      From listening to the PT-PT version they are translating the English one and not the Spanish so that must be the “original” language of the movie.
