The population of Dharavi comes together to provide the Indian economy with 1 billion US dollars and approximately 250,000 employed workers each year. The workers earn around $10 worth of wages at the most, leaving the other 40% of this community with lesser disposable income.
most of the people who live in the slums of the big cities in India are the migrants from small villages. they all have their houses In the villages. they live in the slums because of the low rent. if they start earning lot more in the cities then they move to bigger homes.
Not really no. That being said when it is, the money goes back to help the community in school programs and other social programs which is kind of a great thing.

All that we see , is not because they are poor; people in rural area of India make substantially less money than people in this slum, but the biggest fault is the government's inability to provide better infrastructure, sanitation and manage the population expansion.otherwise they are not that poor,if government just properly plan this place, divide it into residential, commercial, industrial area and just take care of the infrastructure, this will be a good place.
We always wish for better condition of the people. And from our perspective, infrastructure aside, these people have a better sense of community and than anywhere else we has ever seem. Just simple and genuine food people.
Hey Dave, if u come back to Dharavi after 6-7 years from now, it won't be there at all ! Recently government has come up with a plan to scrap it completely and built a new modern city with huge skyscrapers!! The people living there would get free houses in it ! Just they have to shift their businesses to allotted industrial areas around mumbai ! But it's okay as 99% of the businesses ain't registered with government!
They have to live there because rents in Mumbai are sky high. That area is going to get redevelopment in the next few years and so maybe all of these people will be relocated somewhere else.

I am INDIAN but am no idea this dharavi thank for making this video
It was a real pleasure! Dharavi is a fascinating place. 🇮🇳
I did hear about this indeed. I just hope that the Government will actually take care of that community. ❤️👍🏼
Looks like California without the drug use and people in india actually work
Slums in India are for sure better than North America!
If possible pls try to visit barbeque nation .... It's a barbeque restaurant with amazing food....😊😊😊love from India
I do love BBQ!!!
@@DaveMani plz upload it's vlog also....is it famous for different dishes with unlimited buffets..🤗
Love From Bangladesh 🇧🇩
Cheers :)
They have to live there because rents in Mumbai are sky high. That area is going to get redevelopment in the next few years and so maybe all of these people will be relocated somewhere else.
I did hear about that yes.
I’m reading a book about AI and it literally takes place in India and basically how the AI insurance was telling the girl to stay away from Dharvi, even tho tourists visits but never stays. That’s how I found your video because I was curries to know what it looks like there. Thank you for sharing. I just have one question, how can you eat the found without getting ill??
Dharavi is such an interesting place and should not be avoided. :)
For the food, we just eat a lot of street food all around the world so we have steal stomachs now. Haha
Fastest growing economies in the world but one tension is high population 😢
India is only getting better and better! :)
Sry to say it's aisa's largest slum pls change this thumnail

Which country or city would like to show their slum as tourist spot but mumbai do. You know why, because people here are hard working they turn trouble into opportunity. Whatever their economic condition might be they are hospitable. Atithi devo bhav - guest is god.
People from Dharavi are for sure remarkable!
Appreciate one thing, in India the slum has very low crime rates when compared to western countries. In fact some slums will have crime rates are the same as the rest of the city.
100% That slum was fully functioning, filled with hard working people.
Just for some views, you guys are making a mockery of someone's circumstances... Shame on you..
That is the exact opposite of what we want.
There is a thriving small industry cluster in dharvavi..that generates 650 million USD to 1 billion USD per year.
That is very true!
India is overcrowded but very hospitable people.
Great people indeed :)
For Views you guys can do anything
I'm sad you think like that.
@@DaveMani I mean you guys can choose any where but these not expected from you guys sorry if you didn't liked my comment
But Ik Are trying to show there positive side but the problem is they didn't like to get in camera
You guys should visit kolkata...you will get to taste the best food in the country and also see the beautiful colonial era architectures
Next time for sure! We cannot wait to go back to beautiful India! :)
beautiful colonial era ? a real sepoy spotted here
@@manh9105 i said the architectures are beautiful and thats true....no need to be all patriotic everywhere
Canada's 🇨🇦 Vancouver slums giving competition to India's dharavi but still... India has no critical drug issues... India has less straving rate in slums compare to Vancouver slums😅
North American slums are WAY worst than Indian's!
I was told dharavi will to develop soon by Adani.?what happen.?
I'm not sure. There is lots going on.
It will take more than 10yrs. There are more than 80lakhs people living in dharavi Govt have to do something for them first.
Buying a small slum in dharavi can make u billionaires when it's redeveloped
Fair enough.
Thank you 🙏
You’re welcome 😊
Please visit Patna india
Next time! We'll be back in India later this year. 👍🏼

I always wonder how but this informal places generate a lot of money.
Yes, tons of money!
Also the Govt is re-developing Dharavi and in next 15 years you won't find any slum here
👍🏼
Hi Dave- You didn't get the itch to have your ears cleaned? LOL
Not this time hahaha

The total annual turnover has been estimated at over US$1 billion.
That is remarkable! :)
India looks like the next China in the next few years to come, nice Vlog.
It really is!
that is not world's biggest slum. it is in Cape Town South Africa-Khayelitsha
Many sources online considers Dharavi as the largest one.
@@DaveMani please don't consider Wikipedia as a Reliable source . Check World Economic Forum report ❤
No more slums in Cape Town.
You are interested ❤
Yes I am
Much better than Philadelpia..
Never been haha
😂🤣
*Slum town* .... I think we need it... Government is hell bent on redevelopment, but it will loose the soul that dharavi has... Give it time, it will fixzle on its own....
From what I saw, Dharavi is already thriving. All the best to this amazing community!
8:14 how was the chapati? Did we adopt the recipe correctly in Kenya? Dave Mani, you're the chapati aficionado, please rate Indian Vs Kenyan chapatis 😋
Haha it was super good. Less oily and the Kenyan ones.
Oily is better 😂
Please make video on USA slum area.
There are 28000 cases of people doing poop on roads in 2018.
People living on streets.
I visited New York, it was so stinky.
Single room cost 65k , where as here you can get @ 300 here.
Even tho I would love to, it is way to dangerous. This slum is Indian has a story, the people are great and hard working and it is nothing to be a shamed of compared to the USA.

And if you have plenty of time and u had nothing To do than sit in Mumbai airport. I had visited there and waited for few hours and I meet one of Bollywood actress. Every few hours Bollywood actors have flights. If you wanna meet go check it out. This kind of advice u won't find from anyone 🤣🤣🤣.
Love your vlogs buddy. ❤
Hey thanks a lot for the suggestion Tilak :)
Good music good slum bad music bad slum.
What? 😅
@@DaveMani when youtubers want to show slums in good way then play nice music , when to show slums in bad way then show dramatic dark music,
Foreigners and their obsession with going to dharavi and looking at poor people 😂
Its really not like that...
Habibi Come to the Dharavi!! 😂😂😂
We loved it :)
