    I was a dual blades and insect glaive user in Generations and Gen Ultimate. It was during the rise demo that I learned of the true majesty of the BONK machine known as the hammer. My favorite thing is flipping in the air on command with the wire bugs. I'm still early on in Rise, but my favorite hammer so far is the gun hammer. I love the way the cylinder spins when charging, and how the firing pin pulls back on max charge.

      Welcome to Bonk Brigade Aiden!
      Hammer has a lot more unique weapon effects you can discover like the Seltas drill or Wroggi chainsaw.
      I appreciate that Capcom added these effects to some weapons when they didn't need to. Even the older gen games had them, it's the small stuff like this that makes MH special.

      @@SirJacobFlames as much as I love the yo-yo of death in iceborne, I got to admit the "not" mandatory tenderizing mechanic is pretty annoying, you have to shuffle around a monster until it stops squirming so you can target the head, all-around a waste of time that could have been spent dancing the waltz of death in an epic showdown.

      I have the same opinion for every weapon it's why I said it get's worse when I'm not talking about the hammer.
      I have a rather embarrassing story from early Iceborne when I switched to HH thinking I could speed up my hunts by buffing my attack since I didn't know that not using the claw was why my hunts were taking so long. I thought they bloated HP because people said base game was too easy anyway the hunts still took longer then if I was using the claw. It's such a travesty the mechanic was added the way it was.

    Slight addition: Aerial Style, like Valor or Adept is a counter focussed style. What it means is that the style shines the most when used to aerial vault off of big monster attacks to convert them into openings for stylish counters.
    Not that that removes the drawbacks for Hammer specifically, as your best attacks are locked behind the vault, and its hard to aim properly on small monsters.

    • @SirJacobFlames

      Indeed that little story I shared about my time in base Generations I was using the Low Rank armor until the end of HR7 where I swapped to Shaggy only because I was helping a mate farm the armor set for himself.
      The aerial vault saved my life too many times to count by HR6 I was fighting monsters that could outright one shot me if I wasn't careful.

      Personally ive gotten so good at the vault that i can use it proactively for some amazing dunks. Like, you know that Rathalos dive he does sometimes in High rank and G-Rank? One of my favourite things to do is use that for a vault and then hopefully dunk Rath into a mount. Feels so good man.

    I remember inventing the craziest build with striker hammer in GU. You can draw into a charge and striker had fast charge (that I think either stacked with focus or I just used it as is, dont remember anymore) which means you can run crit draw, status crit and all the other status up skills with the rest in earplugs etc for maximum attack time. As long as you don't input any other attack the entire spinning bludgeon crits (you still needed to end it with uppercut or you do the long fumble) and when the status procs you go on the head to do typhoon trigger 3 (it has guaranteed stun in 1 hit 2+ times for all monsters because of crazy stun value), with the teddy bear hammer and whatever was the best paralysis hammer you could just perma lock the monsters as your team killed them.
    White fatalis specifically was very weak to sleep so I could sleep him 7 times every hunt which was crazy for coop with bombs and greatswords.

    First weapon I liked back when I first played Tri. Later I learned about the existence of the Switch Axe, but I still have a big soft spot for the Bonker. If anything, whenever an Arena fight doesn't have a weapon I'm used to, but there's a Hammer in there, I'll usually pick it since I don't really care about good armor skills, sharpness or element when using this weapon, and its core moveset stays largely easy to understand and very consistent through all games.
    Really lovable weapon.
    I think my favorite version of the Hammer would be admist the 4th Gen, can't say for sure if it would be one of the different styles in XX/GU, but I love the visual and sound effects in that generation, it gives a lot of oompf to your hits, and impact hits are specially satisfying.

    Can’t believe you never talked about ledge hopping for world. People really over hate the clutch claw. Yeah it’s not great but doing one follow up combo with hammer every 1:30 is nothing. Before that update to 1:30 is was rough but just don’t use it then. It’s seriously not that big of a deal.

    I'll drop some info for some of the games you missed.
    In the Japanese version of MH1 (there are a lot of differences compared to the NA and EU release), Hammer's basic attack combo did not end in the gold swing it was just 3 pounds (with the 3rd pound having a pretty lackluster MV), unsurprisingly it's arguably Hammer's worst game. MH1NA added the gold wing to it's basic combo as that was a balance change they were planning for MHG in Japan most of MHG's planned balance changes were used in MH1NA and EU.
    In MH2 and MHF2 KO and Para work a little differently with Para waiting to activate until after the KO duration ends, and KO waiting until after the Para duration ends. This was changed in MHFU to make it so Para cancels KO and KO cancels Para. Hammer is arguably at it's strongest in MH2.

    • @SirJacobFlames
      @SirJacobFlames  2 месяца назад

      I didn't quite miss that first point I just mentioned it during the outro ramble.
      The second bit I didn't know about like that's pretty cool but I understand why they had to change that. A little side story here, in MHW it became a running gag in my hunting group how whenever I finally KOed a monster our SA guy would immediately proc paralysis unfortunately wasting it.

    • @CanadianAdim
      @CanadianAdim 2 месяца назад

      @@SirJacobFlames yeah how Para and KO worked was hilariously broken with how long para durations were in 2nd gen, Kushala has a 60 second para duration and Teostra has a 45 second para duration. Makes some hunts comically easy with a para gunner or para sns user.

  • @DTPandemonium

    Rise and sunbreak without anomaly investigations is decent but with the investigations hammer is fundementally broken. You are supposed to balance the amount of stuns you get with the amount of damage you do in your build so you don't end up in a situation where you can't stun the monster anymore yet it still has high health but because of the bloated health the higher level you get in investigations the more health on the monster you have to deal with after it can't really be stunned anymore and on top of that the hammer matchups that used to be good like the crabs etc now 2-3 shot you with chip damage attacks that you were originally supposed to hyper armor through to stagger lock them.
    For some reason they also hard nerfed the roll recovery times of hammer especially for strength and god forbid you use aerial attacks. Hits don't feel impactful either but that's easy to fix in wilds (hopefully)
    It was a very frustrating experience to get to level 300 that I pretty much dropped hammer on most monsters to use shield HBG instead with 400 hunts on HBG with hammer on 1000 before I stopped playing fully. I firmly believe it's the worst iteration of the hammer with the slope slide animation lock you mentioned and all this I mentioned about the anomalies and mechanic changes. You don't see the cracks when you play normal hunts but they are definitely there.

    • @SirJacobFlames
      @SirJacobFlames  4 месяца назад

      I choose not to play the anomaly quests because they are boring so I never ran into this issue thankfully. The anomaly gear I believe was only necessary for the higher level anomalies thus I didn't feel like I was missing out by choosing not to torture myself on that grind.

    The board game and TCG tangents are really interesting, I think they're cool!
    For stuff I'd personally mention, in MH1 JP version you actually only had a triple pound combo - golf swing was retroactively added in the International version and later G! You can still access golf swing through the spinning attack, but it was not powerful as it was when it properly added to the main combo. I know you didn't plan to add numbers like this, but I think it is worth mentioning that golf swing was much more powerful in 1st, 2nd, and frontier games (100MV) while 3rd gen and beyond lowered it's MV (somewhere around 60-80 depending?)
    In Frontier, you can actually do the upswing by hitting Circle during a charge. It always had set values so charge level didn't matter, but it was accessible for all styles iirc.
    It's pretty small, but I personally noticed that in MHG the golf swing comes out much faster than in other games since it seems to have less animation frames than in later games. Also in 1/2/frontier games, it can quickly go back into a charge after a lv2 swing which does make it attack quite fast.
    One thing I really enjoy about Alchemy hammer actually is that you will always do the superpound regardless of direction held - you would otherwise do the spin attack on any other style. You do lose the ability to go back into a charge after some combo strings though
    I personally enjoyed Alchemy Hammer the most. I actually think 4U Hammer might be one of my least used, as I think Hammer actually has pretty poor performance against a lot of monsters in the game, where other weapons really crept on it's KO potential in the game

      Wow a hammer bro and MonHun scholar thanks for commenting! 😊
      I knew about some of these already but those that I didn't are really cool to learn, especially the Frontier charge golf swing attack.
      Frontier still surprises me in many ways. After I finished recording and editing most this video I learned I could perform a homerun swing to end the infinite combo.
      And I'm super happy to hear praise for those RL segments too cheers! They were really expensive to do especially the board game bit, it's why this video went from a January release to an April one. 😅

    The clutch claw really isnt that bad once you realise that quite a few weapons have the ability to seemlessly combo into it. weapon that do include dualblades, hammer, switch axe, lance and insect glaive. all of those weapons get some decent utility out of it, lance gets a counter, hammer you already talked about, dualblades get en extended circle combo, switch axe gets to spam ZSDs to the point where you no longer even need tenderizing even though you still can and insect glaive gets an alternative to the downslashes when midair, that makes it pretty easy to tenderize, tho hard to target specific parts.

    • @SirJacobFlames
      @SirJacobFlames  6 месяцев назад

      It's still obtrusive to the natural gameplay flow established in World and all games prior. Even if some weapons can use it well like my beloved hammer it will never change my opinion about the claw being a grave mistake.

    • @anonymeperson4193
      @anonymeperson4193 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@SirJacobFlames the real issue doesnt really lie in the claw and more in the mechanic that is deeply interwoven with it, which is tenderizing. that needs a serious overhaul if its ever coming back. the claw as a pure means of movement and extending the moveset of certain weapons worked great.

    • @SirJacobFlames
      @SirJacobFlames  6 месяцев назад

      That's actually a far better way of explaining the issue then I put it thanks.
      If the claw played like hunting style, arts and wirebugs then I wouldn't mind it too much because those all flow naturally in gameplay. Then only thing I'd further remove is latching onto the monster because jumping around a monsters body is reckless and annoying.

    • @anonymeperson4193
      @anonymeperson4193 6 месяцев назад

      @@SirJacobFlames I actually really like the latching on, it's a good gap closer, especially for hammer and also works really well for lance, where the counter actually knocks you in the air and then you latch on. Dualblades and glaive can also use it as a way to stick to the Monster for a bit and Swaxe doesn't actually combo into claw (tho it can, if you miss your initial stab for zsd) but it can combo into a already latched on zsd out of it, which makes it much more consistent for targeting zsd. Sure sometimes it just doesn't go where you want it to, especially with hammers move, but I usually really like it latching onto other parts, especially when it latches onto a tail mid spin so you spin through the entire body of the monster. I like it much better like that. I would prefer seeing overhauls to the claw moves. If they where to overhaul those I would much prefer those over silk binds. You could keep most of them very similar but instead of latching onto thin air you'd have to actually hit the monster to get them off.

    • @SirJacobFlames
      @SirJacobFlames  6 месяцев назад

      Rise did over hall some of them like on HH, it kept the spinning claw attack but now does a huge damage boost on cooldown. I think DBs also kept that attack you mention but IDK since I never played DBs in World. In Rise I did a bit so I know they have something similar to the sound of that and GUs aerial style.
      As for silkbinds and hunter arts most of these are too over the top for my liking. I do enjoy them occasionally but I don't want these to become series staples. With all that said I can think of a few silkbinds like the SnS's shield dash attack that's simple enough to fit in a more grounded game.

    • @SirJacobFlames
      @SirJacobFlames  5 месяцев назад +1

      I've actually heard the opposite about underwater hammer. Like I said here it plays almost the same as on land but better in a couple aspects, it's one of the best underwater weapons in MH3.
      Aerial hammer I really like but I find it's a situational style that doesn't work well on half the roster who are smaller in size. Aerial hammer was my main in base gen but moving into GU and trying out other stuff I found the other styles work better on every monster small or large. And alchemy hammer is really good too but it's mechanics are basic. When it comes to ranking it the style doesn't stand out over the other styles which is why I ranked it low. But just because I've ranked both aerial and alchemy low doesn't make them bad or mean I hate them, I simply find them both less appealing but regardless I enjoy playing the styles.
      Which is something I cannot say the same about for Icebornes clutch claw. I hate the system tied to it period. Even if Hammer and Lance which are two of my favorite weapons use it well I don't like having to do it. It's a personal preference and many people feel this way over Rises wirebugs. But that's something I like about MH, the devs are constantly trying new things and listening to the feedback for the next games.

    Look, I get the clutch salt, and I'd agree on any weapon other than the hammer, the literal only truly seamless integration in game that genuinely added options and lead to new emergent gameplay and punished you couldn't have done without it.
    Do I think it makes clutch a good feature no, but I still don't hold it against hammer. Tbh the removal of widley available slopes and the quick Y Y double swipe by putting the first swing on B and making the actual fast version exclusive to yellow mode made rise feel less snappy and fluid, and as such worse than world.
    Plus wirebug didn't play into what you want to do with hammer, same for almost every optional move except the, I believe it was courage mode. That was fun.

    • @SirJacobFlames
      @SirJacobFlames  2 месяца назад

      By not what you'd want on hammer I assume you mean to hit the head?
      I think I'd agree on that for some wirebug attacks like the Silkbind Spinning Bludgeon however it was extremely useful to force a wyvern ride or easily break a monsters back/wings making it viable for a different purpose to what you'd normally use a hammer for.
      But Silkbinks like Impact Burst and Keeping Sway were exactly what you'd want to keep mobile and be dealing high damage. Keeping Sway was so good it's returning in Wilds which I'm happy about.
      To me, silkbinds felt like a natural extension of each weapons moveset where as the claw didn't. Even on the hammer where the claws at its best, fumbling around on monsters feels sloppy and unfun. It completely breaks the dance between myself and the monster which is why I personally rank World below Rise. The Silkbind Impact Crater gives me that same feeling with how long you're animation locked but at least I'm not forced to use this silkbind like I am the claw.

      @@SirJacobFlames The Lack of slopes and walkable ledges is bad and my main problem.
      The other problem I had was the hammer missing that"float like a butterfly sting like a bee" feeling world gave it, with a better balance of quick low recovery and chunky high recovery moves. That was more on me not using yellow mode and the dash from transitioning from blue into yellow more in my first playthrough. It's still a part of hammer just in what I always associated with uncharged Hammer of world and as such avoided.
      My problem with the silk binds was also kinda misplaced. Things like spinning bludgeon feeling almost like the game constantly reminding me how that used to be a free and fluid part of my kit in World due to the many slope heavy zones. or how Meteor just kinda felt overly... prevalent.... In all seriousness the hammer has been one of the fun dopamine inducing weapons in monster hunter with it’s easy to use hard to master moveset, hope one day we’ll see duramboros again in wilds, the true hammer king 😂

    Capcom will never remaster any game.... Stories isn't made by capcom directly so it doesn't count...
    Thus if we want to get them to do anything to remaster 4u, we need to start an entire movement #remastermh4u

    • @SirJacobFlames
      @SirJacobFlames  6 месяцев назад

      They've remastered the Street Fighter legacy games for the 20th anniversary among other Capcom series like DMC and Megaman before. I talked a bit about those in a video I made early January called "Monster Hunter 20th Anniversary Collection Speculation And Discussion" however since I made that we've discovered said Stories titles seem to be our anniversary games which is rather strange and unfortunate.
      That said I like your idea. It worked for MHX back in the day so worth trying again. #remastermh4u

      @@SirJacobFlamesya it is kinda strange that we're getting Stories/2 remastering for an anniversary when the last time we got Gen, it wasn't even capcom who made the ultimate expansion for that game.
      Honestly the perfect game would be take the QoL from 4u, like more box space, updated move sets, and throw that into Dos. Which was an erra mind you where the only damage increase skill was Attack Up L, and maybe Elemental attack up? I forget, no sharpness+, no razor, you upgraded the armour directly to increase defence, and when you upgraded it enough it would "Evolve" the armour into it's next rank, giving more skills, or changing it's monster.
      Yes there was armour Trees, like how we have weapon trees in modern MH. Dos was a strange game.

    • @SirJacobFlames
      @SirJacobFlames  6 месяцев назад

      I've never played Dos but I love all the unique gameplay features I hear about in it so I'd be totally on board for that style of remaster however unlikely it is to happen.
      I swear the older MH games are an untapped goldmine for Capcoms wallets, if only they saw the potential in rereleasing them like we do.

      @@SirJacobFlamesthe main problem is that Capcom being a japanese company focus' on their home market. Yes they made world to be more western focused, But when you look at most of what they've done is for Japan, and as far as I know, most of the people asking for old gen is the western seen, I haven't really heard much of Japan's scene asking for it... Then aain I'm not on much social media, so what do I know.

    • @SirJacobFlames
      @SirJacobFlames  6 месяцев назад

      I think we're starting to see Japanese devs pivot that for better or worse. Capcom and Sega have been doing this a bit for the past few years while Square Enix are flip flopping around on it so who knows other then their CEOs what the future will hold.

    I will disagree on one thing they need to keep the dual blade speed from rise as you are an absolute speed demon and its fun i would even take dual blade damage nerfs to compensate if DB is 2 strong, personally i am hoping for a middle ground between pre-shitclaw world and rise, world felt to long and rise is a little to fast, also hammer in rise seems slow to me, slower then world somehow? placebo?

    • @SirJacobFlames
      @SirJacobFlames  6 месяцев назад

      I like your take on DBs, that would be cool to see. I'm not opposed to speed movement wise it's only the wirebugs that I am against. They feel too over the top for my taste. I actually want to see extreme styles sprinting come to main series it's very grounded and makes hunts more fun.
      And for hammer in Rise yeah maybe just placebo since I feel it's quicker with stuff like keeping sway, water strike and courage combo. Though the impact crater does feel slow but it looks awesome and feels weighty which I do love to see on the hammer.

    Bro went on completely unhinged rant about a mechanic he can easily and passively perform with his weapon type. That's insane behavior. It's been how long? Get over it. Especially nowadays with clutch claw boost which makes it even EASIER for more weapons like Dual Blades and Insect Glaive. It's not like other teammates don't use it either 💀
