The houses of Parliament refers to Parliament as a whole.
The house of commons is the part which is the lower chamber of Parliament and is made up of members of parliament, each one represents a constituency somewhere in the UK and has been elected by those local people as thier representatives in government.
The upper chamber of Parliament is known as the House of Lords which is where people who are given a Lordship sit.
It's a two chamber system similar to that in the US.
The colours representing the two main parties are also reverse that of the US.
So in the US republicans are red and Democrats are blue.
Here in the UK Conservatives are blue and labour are red.
In the UK, opposition party is a term. Its a term that refers to the largest political party within Parliament that is in second place.
So you have the government (currently Conservatives) who won the most seats in Parliament at the last election but then you have what is called the official opposition party (currently Labour) who came in second highest in number of seats.
The position of official opposition means that thier members of parliament sit on the benches directly opposite side from the government benches at the other side of the dispatch box.

Yes, I second that! ‘If necessary for years, if necessary alone’ Is one of my favourite parts of that speech! Also I’d recommend watching ‘The Gathering Storm (both films, ones a remake) and Darkest Hour! To get the sense of just how close the British and consequently the world came to becoming ruled by the Nazi’s!

To understand this context for Churchill, the UK was the last Western European power not to fall to Germany to WW2- the Battle of Britain was the defining moment in the early WW2 period. The victory in the battle of Britain (with pilots from around the world) allowed the war on two fronts to continue and meant Germany did not attempt an invasion. The UK didn't "win " WW2 but we made sure it wasn't going to be lost. His speeches, particularly during this time, are legendary.
I disagree we did win along with the allies.

Not a good idea as long as Boris is pm. He doesn't answer questions, he just waffles on about anything be feels like, avoiding the actual truth every single time. He makes a mockery of parliament.
Oh, and the houses of parliament consist of two houses, the house of commons where elected mps vote and the house of lords, where everything voted for in the commons gets checked. They have the power to reject policies and order changes or pass them up to Liz to be ratified.
And finally... There is no party called the opposition party, that's just the party with the second highest number of mps. They're in opposition to the government. The three main ones are Tory (conservative), Labour and liberal democratic. The lesser parties (such as greens, brexit, ukip, monster raving loony) rarely ever get more more than two or three mps

I believe the MPs have to address their responses through the speaker as they can't directly insult the MP they are speaking to.
King George the 6th was the Queens father, he died in 1952, only 56 years old. She was 25, that is why she has been Queen for so long. As for the Lend Lease Act, it did help us but we were paying that back until 2006! I doubt Germany and Japan paid money back like that! Winston made mistakes, and many of them, but 1940 was his year and he stepped up to it superbly
Hi Favour, in regard to the land lease agreement, the UK purchased the equivalent of £21 billion throughout the war and we made a final payment in December 2006 of £45 million.
Winston Churchill’s mother was American! It might tell you later in this video but I think that’s one reason he had a great affinity for the USA, and consequently why the US and the UK are such close allies to this day! 🇬🇧❤️🇺🇸❤️
My grandad has told me stories about hearing the German planes flying over. They were targeting a factory in my home town that was making weapons.

From what i understand (feel free to correct this) on our British scale of left/right politics, both the Republican and Democrat parties in America would fall on the right-wing side of our politics (Republicans being more right-wing than Democrats). Democrats are essentially our moderate Conservatives. Our Labour Party traditionally sits in the left-wing of our political spectrum

Winston's mum was very influential in his life. She knew all the right people and made sure Winston had access to them. One of them even told a young Winston that one day he'd be Prime Minister.
I knew someone whose father went to school (Harrow) with Churchill. Some older boy had Winston on the floor fighting, and when he stood up he said "one day I shall be Prime Minister, and you will still be nothing!"
The “Opposition Party” was misleading. The “Leader of the Opposition” is just the MP in the House of Commons (one of the two Houses of Parliament, the other being the House of Lords) that is the leader of the second biggest party in Parliament. Atm, the tories are in power, and labour is the second biggest party, so their leader Sir Kier Starmer is the known as the Leader of the Opposition
Churchill was not a Republican. The interesting thing about conservative politics is that in each country Conservatives are conserving something slightly different because culture and history is different. So in the UK, a conservative is pro Monarchy, pro tradition, pro-Britian pro-NHS etc.

Stalin was a bad guy, but not because of Communism. Regardless of what you've no doubt been told, the aims of Communism are noble enough. To put everyone on the same level playing field. It, and socialism (don't confuse the two because they are NOT the same), was a reaction to what you have in the US today. Where workers were being shafted with poor pay and working conditions to make a few rich landowners even wealthier. The reason Communism took hold in Russia and didn't in other European nations is that Russians had it worse than virtually anyone else in Europe at the time with serfdom still in operation. Russians were not particularly free even before the Revolution, with some of the poorest people in Europe, so Communism sounded like a great idea at the time.
Stalin, however, was a paranoid lunatic. He initially signed a non-aggression pact with Hitler and they agreed to carve up Poland between them. So, he was initially an aggressor. He only changed sides after Hitler betrayed him and invaded the Soviet Union.

Conservative are centre right, labour are centre left. Where as republicans are far right and democrats a little left of republicans on the far right. So the parties don’t really correlate across countries.

Originally Stalin was with Hitler until Germany invaded parts of Russian territory and then he switched sides, which was lucky because at this point Britian was on her own fighting since France had been occupied and America refused to get involved once again instead choosing to take the oppertunity to put Britan and other european countries in debt to them instead. Than between Britian and Russia we managed to start turning things in our favour and coming out on top just in time for Pearl Harbour and America realising they couldn't fight Japan alone so under the disguise of "coming to the rescue" America joined the war. So basically both Russia and America got hit by Britians enemies and that's the only reason they were on the good side of the war than they started the cold war and both did disgusting and horrible things to humans, Russia as a Communist country and America as a Capitalist country because both systems hate humans, so in the grand scheme of things having Stalin or Roosevelt wasn't great but its all we had to work with at the time when Germany was litrally banging at our door.

From what I understand of the end of the cold war was Russia and eastern europe never fully recovered from the first and second world wars as well as the Russian civil war. Already underdeveloped and then devistated and depopulated it was put under an economic strangle hold by the US and her alies; by then the preminent global superpower.
The space race and arms race spelled the economic doom of the sovie union, pushed to breaking point by the US. It fell apart due to internal revolutions and political wrangling. Basicaly Gorbechov tried to reform the economy; the military tried to push a failed coup and the new president of Russia neutered the Charman of the soviet union by disolving the union.

Stalin was an ally of convenience and necessity during WW2 purely because the Third Reich and the axis powers were a bigger threat at the time. Post WW2 there were a cultural and political rival.

Under the lend and lease act the UK settled it's debts with the USA in 2006 - yes it took 60 years to pay - there were 50 instalments paid from 1950 - we also paid Canada back too (but the figures were lower) - The US loaned the UK US$4.33 billion in 1945 and Canada US$1.19 billion - 6 of the payments were deferred due to economic or political issues throughout that time. I actually remember the news broadcast saying we had paid it off. What worries me is that in the last year we have borrowed money far in excess of the equivalent since then.

I would say the tories are nowhere near as right wing as the Republican party in the USA i would say apart from the name the Republican would have most in common with the DUP in the North of Ireland.
The main Republican parties in the UK are Sinn Fein the Scottish Greens & a few other parties which are all left wing .

Parties on the political spectrum have differing names in various countries. They also may have the same name to other parties (in different countries) but hold extremely different beliefs and in actuality be on opposite sides of the spectrum; which is what may cause confusion. E.g., in Australia, the Liberal party is actually conservative, whilst the Labor party is liberal. Though, neither parties are at the far end of the spectrum; they're more centred. Different countries/their political systems & their culture have differing perspectives on what's characterised as conservative and what's not.

Churchill assumed the role to lead a coalition during WW2 but as soon as he stood for election in Jul 1945 he and the Conservatives were voted out of office mainly by the votes from the Armed forces. This brought in a period of profound change creating a National health service. enhanced educational opportunities, increased social welfare, the creation of nationalised industries that were needed to help recover from the ravages suffered during the War

And lol the house of commons is in the houses of Parliament there's 2 houses the commons and the Lords, the commons are were the Debates happen and were laws are discussed, (laws have to pass through both houses and get the final go ahead from the Queen to actually become law) I think theres some sort of rule that the monarch can't enter the house of commons since Charles 1 and our civil war so the queen opens parliament from the house of Lords
There was a video I watched once, I wish I knew where I saw it but they read out portions of speech and asked what students thought of the ideology - they agreed with and praised one which the lecturer revealed was delivered by Hitler and condoned the ideology of one which turned out to be from Churchill.
Britain is a first past the post multi party system. That means we are split into a number of seats across the country - each MP (Member of Parliament) fills a seat. The locals vote for who fills their seat. The person with the most votes - wins and fills that seat for their party. (Anyone can stand in the election if they put up the money - the money is forfeit if they don't get enough votes to redeem it.)
The major parties are Conservatives (similar to republicans), then Labour (Closest to democrats), then the Scottish nationalist party - SNP (to the left of labour) and then the liberal democrats (between the cons and labour), and the Greens (to the left of the SNP).
Then it's all the smaller parties who didn't get seats in Parliament, but stood in the election. The Brexit party (to the right of cons), The Christian Family rights (to the right of cons), The Socialists (to the left of the greens), the monster raving looney party (out for a giggle) and so on.
The party with the most seats in parliament form the government, the party with the second most number of seats is called the "opposition party" because they sit opposite the government and form a "Shadow Government" that is in opposition to the actual government.
The Opposition party get a number of perks - like being first and getting a certain number of questions they can ask the government each week at PMQ - Prime Ministers Questions - where they can hold the government to task for things they either have done or should have done and haven't. (That doesn't work as well with Boris as with previous PMs - they aren't allowed to lie - but he does it continuously, as does his ministers and they get away with it. kinda like Trump.)
PS... The republican movement in the UK and her dominions (Canada, Australia, etc.) is the movement to remove the royal family as each countries head of state. If you talk about republicanism - that's what most people in the UK will automatically associate it with.
16:43: In 1945 there were three parties the conservatives, Labour and the Liberal parties. during the war, it was agreed by both parties to have a prime minister and 2 deputy prime ministers. I think Clement Atley of the Labour party was one I'm not sure who was the other. As soon as the war was over the pack was dissolved

Good video :) there is so much information out there about Churchill - he was a good Prime Minister to have during the war but wasn't what we needed once the war ended hence why he lost the 1945 general election and why his 1951 return was not remembered as fondly. He wasn't perfect [had some appalling views on race in particular] and his full background is interesting should you have the time to look into it.
Problem was as far as 'borders' went in Eastern Europe, there were pockets of German speaking people all over. The borders were kind of arbitrary.
In the UK the 2 main Political Parties are the Conservatives & Labour. The Cons are similar to the Republicans & Lab to the Democrats if you were to make a comparison to the US, however not exactly the same.

Also the Conservative Party is actually conservative as opposed to the modern day American Republican Party which is more closely related to the National Socialist Party in Germany in the early 1920's through 1945.
Churchill's grandson was a Conservative MP but was kicked out of the party for being against Brexit.

British Parliament is divided into The House of Commons, which includes. Ordinary people, voted by the people into Members of Parliament (MPs) - those who win the Election by receiving the mos Votes & their Leader becomes the Prime Minister (PM) whilst the Party who loses becomes The Opposition ; opposite the Government. Debates are held regarding governing the country. The Upper House - The House of Lords - whor debate & deny or approve of the changes to any new Laws proposed by the Government who sit in The House of Commons, thus both Houses of Parliament are needed to run the country. Even funner fact. Churchill has become a sacred cow for many people in Britain. We’re told the story of his defeating Nazism and single-handedly delivering us from evil, a gross oversimplification. Stalin defeated Nazism too. We don’t pretend that absolves Stalin of his terrible crimes against humanity. The problem with Churchill is that fewer people in the UK seem to even know about his crimes than know about Stalin’s. Like it or not, Churchill was intensely racist, even by the standards of the time. He described Indians, for example, as a ‘beastly people’ with a ‘beastly religion’ and affirmed his belief that the ‘Aryan race will triumph’. Fellow Tories, including future Prime Minister Anthony Eden, didn’t trust him because of this. He told a Royal Commission that there was nothing wrong with what the ‘higher-grade’ white race had done to Native Americans, Aborigines and black Africans. When the Bengal famine struck and four million died, for which he was significantly to blame, he said it was their own fault for ‘breeding like rabbits’. Actually, it was his fault for taking their food away to stockpiles, which didn’t need it, destroying their boats and denying aid for months until photos of the corpses of starved children hit British papers. the uk conservative party isn't rlly comparable to the republicans. it's conservative, as in it doesn't like social change, but the republicans are far more right wing than the conservatives. The tories are kind of a centrist monarchist party with heavy ties to the upper class aristocracy. And the "liberal party" is also not comparable to the democrats. The Liberal party was an anti-tax, anti-restriction party. Most comparible to the Modern day libertarian party, but far more moderate.

The video viewed totally missed out the fact that Winston Churchill won the Nobel Prize for Literature for his work Defending Exalted Human Values in 1953.
Actually it was "for his mastery of historical and biographical description as well as for brilliant oratory in defending exalted human values".
Basically the Conservative party are ideologically conservative which hold some similarities to your Republicans but Britain and America are very different politically for example the Party tends to be very monarchists something you would never see in America. The Labour party currently in opposition are ideologically Socialist which you don't get in America due to your national fear of socialism. They are very pro worker's rights but high tax.
Politics is different in the UK.
To begin with The UK Conservative party is generally further left than the US Republican Party and Labour Party has varied over recent years from almost centrist to Centre Left/Hard Left.
Due to the way our politics work it's generally only one of two parties - Conservative (Tory) Party and The Labour Party that gain power.
It's generally the left leaning ideals, parties or other Nationalist parties that favour Republicanism (Anti-Monarchy). The right or centre right parties such as The Brexit party, UKIP and the Conservatives are very pro Monarchy.

You should check out some vids about the Soviet Union, it's really interesting stuff
One hing they missed out on was his role in WW1. He was in charge of he navey as the first lord of the admiralty. He lead the disasterious invasion of Galipoli; an operation in Turky to open up the straits of the dardenels and allow british navel ships to bombard Istanbul; in the hopes of knocking the Ottoman turks out of the war.
Parliament is made up of two houses: The elected House of Commons, and the unelected House of Lords. The House of Commons is comprised of 650 representatives of different areas (called "constituencies", similar to US "electoral districts"), and the House of Lords is made up of a mixture of appointed people, representatives from recognised religions, and a few remaining hereditary lords/ladies. The House of Commons gets to make all the laws, and the House of Lords gets to say whether they like those laws or not. Ideally, laws should pass in both houses, but the Commons can overrule the Lords sometimes. Laws then get signed by the Queen, and that's when they become official.
I recommend PhilosophyTube's video on "Why Does Britain Still Have A Queen" - it's super funny, so it would probably be a great thing to react to if you don't mind a longer video.

I was about to say this in the very beginning when you wanted to see whether he was a republican or democrat - like if it could only be one of those dichotomies, but I waited until you commented on that 4 parties were a lot. It would be fun to see your thoughts about other political systems with several parties to choose from. In Sweden, where I'm from, we have 8 different parties in the parlament. And imo, they all serves their place.
