I am getting the Astra PHEV in December and this video helps me scratch that itch I am already starting to have. Christmas can't come soon enough this year.
For those asking about sound i have test drove one of these as i have ordered the ultimate and the sound quality is very good one of the first things i did was check the sound as i like my music i even turned the bass right up even tho im not a fan of alot of bass it still sounded amazing. Turned it up loud and no distortion from speakers very clear sound didnt have it loud for long as wife was shouting at me lol. But very happy with the quality of sound.
Thanks buddy. Yes, I asked about the sound earlier. What's funny is - I got to test the sound myself today at an Opel dealership, and my opinion was mixed - overall, the quality / clarity was great. However, I felt that the bass was not as strong as I expected it to be, even with the bass setting turned up to maximum ... perhaps a bit lacking in the 20 - 40 Hz area of that bass you "feel" more than you hear. Just a first impression. But by no means a deal breaker, of course. I tested about 15 tracks of different genres ... some tracks sounded great ... some left me wondering if there was some equalizer setting I needed to tune.
Just finished a test drive with the plug in hybrid and I've got to say it definitely exceeded my expectations! Already ordered one a few months ago, but as the first cars only arrived here in my country this week, this was the first look and drive for me months after actually ordering one haha! Even though I currently own a 2018 mercedes c-class, the new astra can definitely keep up with it, even though the overall indoor quality is not just there with the mercedes. However, the overall car obviously feels a lot more modern than a 4 yrs old mercedes, so its definitely an upgrade for me. Also the best priced plug in hybrid in its class here! Big thumbs up and recommendation.
Thanks, Dan, for the helpful video. I ordered mine in Volcanic Grey two days ago, and it will take up to 16 weeks to arrive in my hands, but it will be worth waiting for. I am currently driving a Mercedes E500 Sport 2009 that, with mods, is doing 420bhp and is one of my favourite cars so far, but this will be the perfect everyday car for me in the big city.
Hallo, Dan, you made a perfect video, perfect review. I ordered a new Astra because it is - in my opinion - one of the nicest cars in this class. And even though I'm from the Czech Republic, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for more reviews from you!
It looks like later 2023 ultimate model has different screen design, it doesn't have that glossy black plastic bezel, instead it has glass front all the way to the edges. It looks like screens are the same size but doesn't have that join between the screen and the bezel which should be easier to keep clean. I imagine all that glossy plastic around the screen and centre console on this one is going to be hard to keep clean and will get all scratched up quickly.
Thanks Dan, it appears to be an improvement on the last version. The lane assist looks the same as that installed on my Insignia Grand Sport, OK on motorways, although if I remove my hands from the steering wheel, the car zigzags, and when in roadworks it's best to switch it off as it gets confused with the temporary road markings. Also, when driving on narrow country lanes, if I forget to switch it off it becomes dangerous when moving close to the side of the road when oncoming traffic is approaching, it will suddenly pick up on the white line and throw the car into the path of the oncoming vehicle! The new wash wipe jets built into the blade assembly, has made the wipers very chunky, and in rain, I'm sure I would find this a major distraction. Roll on September, when my new Škoda Superb arrives. 👍👍
@@cadenrausch741 The Insignia Grand Sport was launched in the same year that PSA bought Vauxhall/Opel (2017) Both cars were on the drawing board under GM ownership, and use the same Lane Assist system manufactured by Bosch Mobility Solutions.
Does anyone know how to get the speed limit displayed on the dash board? I have this car in the ultimate tier and I’ve spent hours trying to do it but no luck
Great video, Dan ! Thank you so much for showing us a highway drive ... that is very helpful to people interested in buying the Astra. The car did really well on the curves with the lane assist and I also noticed that the blind spot monitor worked well as cars passed you on the left side. That was great to see ! I agree with you that it would have been nice to be able to customize the cockpit a little more - I think VW's cockpit is definitely superior in that regard. But, Opel provides other features to compensate for that downside - like the HUD, 360 camera, heated windshield, electrical power seats, etc. One question - have you tried the HiFi 8 speaker audio system ? Does it sound good ?
@@auralstudent2841 this week I got an update from the dealer that it will be delivered in week 41 instead of 31 this year. But at least it’s not a VAG product with delivery somewhere in Q4 2023 😅
I have test driven both the new Peugeot 308 and this Opel Astra. It's almost exactly the same car, only a different "brand". What I didn't like about both of these engines is the amount it shakes when you're stationary. It obviously is a 3 cylinder, but it just doesn't sound that great. If you compare it to something like the 1.0 Ford Focus, which is a lot quieter stationary and doesn't rumble as much. The Ford doesn't really have the characteristics of a standard 3 cylinder.
While not the same cars I can confirm this is true from rentals. Rented a ford focus 3 pot 2 years ago, it was fairly smooth had a kuga last week that was also a 3 pot but you could hardly tell was pokey too that one. Had a grandland the week before that and it was so noisy and you felt it. Same with the corsa 1.2 can hear that too. Ford def seem to insulate theirs better.

Everything is good except exterior design, i don't like it! i like only rims, but it's ugliest Astra ever to me. That "thing" on the hood is ugly AF, and that little brake light on the roof like some antenna is hilarious! xD. Brake lights reminds me on VW Golf 7.

Golf has been copying details from several different Opel models since 1997 - the tailgate and the taillights are the worst - the instrument panel was shown by Opel in 2018.
