jagged alliance 2 taught me everything I know about guns as a kid. The voice acting was also legendary. For anyone in chat please try it out. One of the most hidden gems of the last 20+ years!
Also, great audio for different guns - you could almost tell which gun everyone was using based on the sounds. In this game - because there are so many different kinds of mods for each weapon - the sounds are very mixed, so the same gun can produce like10 different sounds, depending on what mods it has - can't learn anything from that, i'm afraid.
@@realitycheck1086 Nah, man. You just gotta be a REAL GAMER(tm) to hear that the enemy is firing AP rounds on an M14 with a laser sight, silencer and a custom stock 😎
I still remember "Unusually Ruthless" Reuben from the first game. He got the "Ruthless" part from wiping out his family with a cordless hedge trimmer. The "Unusually" came from him recharging the trimmer twice before he was done.
Haha, yeah, exactly. And when you read up on him in A.I.M.'s alumni section in Jagged Alliance 2 it says that his crimes have finally gaught up to him and he's in jail now.
It's really not that bad, but the merc he chose is... not exactly made for sneaking around and stabbing things. There are some mercs that are much better suited for that.
@@SCMorfildur Right, that's my man Grizzly. Hell, I love the guy, but he starts with a dexterity of around 50/100. That is *terrible* - it's like having marksmanship at 50 but for melee. Already trained him to dexterity ~85. Now he's a bladed deathicopter in melee - when he's not laying down heavy support fire with his H&K 21 machine gun. *God* I love this game
@@zoso1up Only 45$. I highly recommend it, if you like turn based strategy :-) I've clocked in sixty-ish hours so far and it should take me about 10-15 more hours to finish the campaign and most of the side content. And I'm already eager to start a new playthrough. Replayability is very high, due to 40 different and unique fully voiced mercs, highly adaptive through an extensive perk system, tons of weapons with awesome modification options (build your AR15 to be a CQB SBR with reduced range but faster firing for flanking or slap a sniper scope, extended barrel and suppressor on there for your designated marksman, for example) and also very different quest outcomes. And the game has a *lot* of quests. The RPG mechanic is really impressive with tons of dialogue choices, clues to gather, skill and character trait checks, meanwhile your mercs will really add an insane amount of banter and flavour. TL;DR - 45$, 9/10 ;-) Have an awesome day!
The spirit of the series is definitely there in this game - It does have a few bugs to iron out - being unable to trigger turn based section of the game at will is an issue. The inventory is a huge issue as well - the AI is barely functional in some cases - so while the spirit of the ja and ja2 is definitely there, it will need to be ironed out to be a proper sequel - but even in its current form, it's already infinitely better than any of the pseudo 'sequels' that came out after ja2.
Back in Action was... ok. Good enough that I didn't feel like me taking part in their kickstarter campaign was a mistake. Buuut. It wasn't really a JA game. This one does look very promising, waiting for them to fix it up a bit before I buy tho.
yep, it could use a few patches/polish, but it's already huge fun, and once the modding tools are released, this game will be golden. Many controversial things already have mod options to wteak.
I like how Fox was aiming at the dudes chest few inches away, then turned the gun down to shoot the ground. For real though they should get rid of the Xcom style alert where enemies get to just run around the minute you're detected and "missing" sneak attacks. This game will be really solid when the modding community really gets going.
Great highlights! I'm using a "mouse" recruit character, she's awesome. Has great stealth, a lot of agility and very high dexterity - meaning her melee stealth almost always hits. She can even solo some locations in stealth if you get lucky with spread enemies. Also her lines are absolutely adorable, when looting she sometimes asks whether there's cheese in there!
I'm so sorry a lot of your community is made up of self-absorbed, overprivileged assholes who want you to do only one type of entertainment for the rest of your life time. Don't shoot til you see the white of their eyes Fox- missed! OK don't shoot til you smell the breathe of the enemy! Fox- missed again!!! Ok fox just... Get out of there.. Fox- K. I. A.
And yet I made her my designated sniper and she absolutely *wrecks* xD I love nurturing cheap mercs into something as scary as having to fight the Expendables. This game just lets you do that.
I am not sure if you find out that you can aim in this game. Like those 2 shots for 5AP, you could do 1 shot for 8AP that have much bigger chances to hit. Or a burst for 10AP. Funny enough I finished entire JA2for the first time without knowing that :D Also remember that the mercs you got are the most basic and cheap ones. The more experienced ones destroys.
I only just got the game, but I believe the majorly improved a lot of the game mechanics that you had issue with. Especially the melee on unaware. You tag them before you walk up to them. Then when you get close it goes into an animation.
Sometimes waiting for a game is probably better than buying it on release. Everything Joe wanted (better balancing, the NPC store system to buy and sell guns, more content) is all here now. So it's worth every penny.
Well, if you don't understand the games mechanics then of course you would think the miss chances are too high. He's playing with Grizzly and that character has an awful dexterity stat. Use a high dexterity stat character for melee combat (and a martial artist perk would make it even better). Aim is not broken, just use the characters to their strengths Try Blood as a starter character and you'd think he was way too OP with his melee abilities (and knife throwing)
Look, I really wanna agree, because Grizzly has been my favourite merc since I first played JA2 - which was when it released. So I know how to handle his stats and I got his dex up to around 85 today. He's a reaaaal menace with a knife now. But the devs chose to include a much more clear and readable stealth mechanic and missing around eight or ten stabs on an unaware enemy just feels ridiculous. Just make enemies waaaaay more easy to hit with a knife if they don't know you're there. The difficult part for Grizlly is sneaking up on anyone so you shouldn't be punished that harshly by not allowing him to stab his knife into the sentry's back. At least that's my opinion. But apart from a few minor gripes (I need Bobby Ray's - NOW!) I absolutely adore this game. It even excels JA2 in some ways. Brings a tear of joy to my eye ;-)
To me it's dumb that your mercenary can miss when it's attempting to hit (melee or ranged) a target directly in front of them, as in a successful sneak to behind an enemy should award an automatic hit
It's also an RPG though as in there's a marksmanship (and dexterity) stat which defines how good they shoot, (Grizzly and Fox aren't the best shots as example, Fox has lower Marksmanship and Grizzly lower Dex iirc) either way probably in their 70's, also one can aim, what I saw there seemed mostly "snap shots".
Joe are you and team going to play Remnant 2? The game studio actually listen to the critiques that people had with the game. They made great improvements and changes that held the game down.
I am so glad this franchise is finally getting the recognition it deserves. 24 years of waiting for a true sequel looks like it's finally starting to pay off. Really excited to see where the franchise goes from here!
I liked the real time aspect of jagged allience 2 back in action. Dont think I be playing this but for fans of turnbased strategy this might be awesome. Really hoped it would be real time as with pause function. Cool suit bro XD
There's a mod that showing the hit %. Marksmanship & Dexterity really important attribute for shooting & melee. If I'm not mistaken, Grizzly is not the man for stealth attack since his dexterity are awful.
Just putting this in for posterity's sake. There needs to be a GI Joe/Jagged Alliance Mod. This is the direction GI Joe should go in. Someone needs to tell developers this is HOW GI Joe vs Cobra should be. As a RTS, as a real time strategy game. It couldn't go wrong if they built it like this.
It's unfortunate we couldn't see OJ UI/screen when he was failing the attacks, when I did see AJ miss a shot, it looked like he was not spending any additional AP on the accuracy, so was always attacking on the lowest chance. You spend more AP by right clicking on the target and the circle shrinks to indicate improved change of hit. It looked like the attacks were all done on the lowest chance.
Not sure if it changes anything for hit probability but maybe trying to sneak up on somebody to knife them... using stealth mode might alter the odds? I miss Bobby Ray's too, especially also for tools like lockpicks, crowbars and also parts (or weapons to disassemble), oh and ammo maybe as loot only gets you so far. Oh and yeah in JA2 one would use some guys (Biff and Flo anyone? xD) to get around the map to pick up stuff and store somewhere but with the running across the grids to get to the in city "stores" is a bit tedious. Like to buy magazines the stall refreshes every day so one would be on a constant road trip to increase certain 8random) stats. The mines run out ridiculously fast as well though for some reason the value of the last mines doesn't seem to decrease. Weird that there's only 4 mercs to hire with map events (so far) and it's a sausage party too for those (why no murder granny as example?). The way how weapons, or rather the damage from them, works is also a lot (bad) video gamey. Like how would a certain round from a certain barrel have different damage depending if it's single shot or burst/auto? It's the same bullet with the same velocity hence impact force. Which kinda leans towards (especially with the games loot economy) single shot weapons way too much, (the sneaky sniper meta xD ). Oh, on another point is the ...again bad video gamey stuff... (Bethesda does it a lot past Morrowind) is the immortal NPC's if they're needed for the story as the developer intended to experience it. IE there's a certain location which serves as plot progress but one can meet an NPC who sort of acts as trigger there in 2 locations. In the more southeast location (both of them) one can't cause some fun or experiment what happens if one "guns 'em down" as they will only get unconscious no matter how much bullet they have for breakfast. Video game companies should again embrace freedom to have the storyline be broken, like again Morrowind shows that one would get a message that the main quest is broken now and it's a doomed world or whatever. Though in this case it shouldn't really alter much just have another guy replace the former one if they get taken out, ideally with that guy not being in the mao previously hence not immersion breaking as if they would be cursed to immortality Fallout child-demonspawns. That said overall it's a fun game which just needs more mercenaries, a proper webstore (with deliveries to harbors I guess, unless they expand the map in a DLC which introduces airports), also have some vehicles for regions so the already in game shopping trips can be cut shorter, oh and one major thing give us a pause button for tactical mode so one can click through stuff without running out of time for time sensitive stuff (enemy patrols or detecting a landmine etc).
Haha, I watch a lot of game review channels, and my friend yours is the best by far, very entertaining. You just popped up in my recommend feed, and I have been binge watching your channel all day. I especially liked the rdr2 review, it's my all time favorite game. I have been a gamer since 1980 when I got an Atari 2600 for Christmas.. SUBSCRIBED!!
This reminds me of that one mobile tactical mil game, that was 3d and had like missions to infiltrate and you had to stealth your way trough. I had fun playing those games, betting this is similar to that.
Brought the game day one as soon its available. Could use more polish but it have a lot of potential to be the best especially with the mod support! Hope for the best for the game!
Yeah I basically don’t bother with melee in this game. Ranged stealth is viable with silencers available from the beginning, but you better have a sniper with high marksmanship and pray for good RNG. There’s no option to hide bodies though and enemies are usually relatively close by eachother and discover them eventually so I don’t “quiet-complete” many levels.
I really enjoy JA 3 but I really hope that mods or the devs will patch some thing The lack of a real market to buy supplies is a real mistake in my opinion I really wonder why they did that ? Edit : didn't realise joe was going to talk about it. I understand what they were going for but it really feel less tactical
Haven't gotten to that part of the explanation yet, but my guess is that it could be fit for DLC, like a reversed Unfinished Business (if memory serves right and it went from the free-roam to a more linear approach with no store anymore, so this one could introduce web-stores in the future)
@@SCMorfildur Or knives... why can't one scrap those? xD Same with grenades maybe have them all turn into gunpowder instead of only the pipebombs (with wire cutter)
GotY so far. Its like JA2 but modernized and added with so much new things, intel, intel gathering operations and treasure stashes and feels like all grids have something to loom for! Loving it.
@Jps991 Idiot, when I said third is better. Its still very great game and much modernized than JA 2 even was and sit down son Ive been playing JAs all the way from the first with 486. JA3 also brings much new aspects to the game like minimissions and diamond run ambush and its just much more modern for new generation.
I like how they don't aim and then complain that they miss XD Also JA games some kind of fixed rng that when you miss something you can't just reload and try again the same thing and hoping for a different outcome. You have to do something else then. Ps: just now saw that Steroid has 48 Dexterity which makes him unbelievable bad at stealth kills haha.

I'm ready for this review
Oh man I love jagged alliance! I had no idea they made a third one.
Shame it's not turn based.
It is turn based.
Haha,
I watch a lot of game review channels, and my friend yours is the best by far, very entertaining.
You just popped up in my recommend feed, and I have been binge watching your channel all day. I especially liked the rdr2 review, it's my all time favorite game.
I have been a gamer since 1980 when I got an Atari 2600 for Christmas..
SUBSCRIBED!!
Joe: "is that an RPG"?! And he wet his suit
ayeyay!
target down!
I know it looks stupid but don't expect Grizzly to hit every time with a knife with only 51 dexterity.
This reminds me of that one mobile tactical mil game, that was 3d and had like missions to infiltrate and you had to stealth your way trough. I had fun playing those games, betting this is similar to that.
We need a TOTK review like yesterday man!
It's not coming. He just said it looks like the first game, but with more gadgets, and never played the game.
More like JACKED Alliance 3.
We want a FF16 review Joe!
Internet Mercenaries killed attempting to overthrow warlords in a pathetic fashion. Jagged Alliance truly lives on!!!! 😂❤
Brought the game day one as soon its available.
Could use more polish but it have a lot of potential to be the best especially with the mod support!
Hope for the best for the game!
Don't know the stats of the mercs you use, but back in JA2, you had no business going melee or stealth unless your merc is really good at it.
Used to play the first one on PC and now more a laid back console game after working all day on PC, so I hope this game comes to console.
I really enjoy JA 3 but I really hope that mods or the devs will patch some thing
The lack of a real market to buy supplies is a real mistake in my opinion I really wonder why they did that ?
Edit : didn't realise joe was going to talk about it. I understand what they were going for but it really feel less tactical
Haven't gotten to that part of the explanation yet, but my guess is that it could be fit for DLC, like a reversed Unfinished Business (if memory serves right and it went from the free-roam to a more linear approach with no store anymore, so this one could introduce web-stores in the future)
I want a market to *sell* stuff at. I have so many grenades, steel pipes and such, and I don't just want to leave them lying around somewhere.
After so many misfires we finally get a proper JA game
Hey Guys Quick Question u think this will come out for ps5??
One Storm Trooper is like the Terminator in this game
Great video so funny lol But they need too fix the game. So bad 😅
Steroid and Fox, on the same team? You madlads, you...
AND Grizzly! XP
I miss Bobby Ray's store.
