    It's so bizarre how RUclips has chosen to provide this video to our sleeping subconscious. I woke up to this too, then read the comments about so many people waking up to this playing, and that's when I even realized that I woke up to it too and was really freaked out. But now I put this on as I'm laying in bed trying to go to sleep. That's called a checkmate, RUclips.

      The whole notion of a "thought experiment" is idiotic.
      In the Dark Ages, it was noticed that if you left a piece of meat on the table, overnight, maggots were crawling all over it. Many thought experiments were done. One emerged as dominant. That maggots popped into existence through the wonderful power of God's creation. He created everything in the beginning and continues to do so with maggots. Most nodded in agreement but a small few didn't buy it. They couldn't explain it but they didn't agree with the consensus opinion.
      BUT, someone actually did a real, scientific experiment. He put two pieces of meat on the table, one out in the open and one under s shot glass. Next morning, they found that the meat under the shot glass had no maggots on it. Conclusion, God didn't do it.
      Then it was finally realized that as they left the room, flies had congregated over the open piece of meat but none did so over the shot glass. So they put a jar over the maggot laden piece of meat and discovered that maggots were really eggs that the flies laid.
      So thought experiments are idiotic. REAL experiments get the job done.

    Wouldn't that mean that, that starlight started on its journey towards us 30 billion years ago, making the age of the universe at least 30 billion years old?

    • @carljohnson8732

      I wondered this myself. After having always heard nothing exceeds the speed of light, there is one thing that apparently does- inflation. There's a consideration to make in this question. Are we talking about a static universe? Cause then ur right. The universe isn't static though. It extends, light bends. Consider that we're looking back in time basically the lights u see now is where it came from approx 13 billion years ago. This means the actual distance ur looking at a certain thing is not the same position as it is right now, even though this is hard to comprehend. U can however see the difference in velocity compared to earth. Which makes it possible to calculate approx where things are located at this time. Basically your not only measuring location but also time. Considering there's expansion of the universe the distance could be more then double that far.

    • @yucatron76
      @yucatron76 3 года назад +1

      The universe expands faster than light, and the expansion makes the wavelength of that distant light elongate to another frequency. That's why red shifting happens and that's why the oldest objects can only be seen in radio waves.

      Try, Ken Wheeler explaining Plato's Field Theory. He has over 2000 videos on Field Theory. Took me awhile to understand his vocabulary. Then, I understood how the Universe works. Did take years, now I understand.
      Time began when the Dielectric energy decays/leaves the Inertial plane/Bloch Wall, inflation.
      Then, the Dielectric energy decays into the Dielectric Voidence Field/Magnetism, the Grand Expand. Magnetism gives Magnitude to the Universe.
      These are the transverse waves that EM waves travel on/in. Both transverse waves are needed for light, EM waves to travel on/in.
      Gravity is the opposite; Magnetism into Dielectric Energy, then onto the Inertial plane.
      What I think I learned from Ken Wheeler and Eric Dollard.
      Good Luck!
      Sometimes you got to do what you have to do! Not always your fault. Don't give up, it took me decades. 2 years of Electronic Technition and 3 semesters of Nanotech. They taught my their lies. I learned Field Theory from Ken Wheeler and found the truth about our Space Universe. Dark Matter is opposite Matter in Counterspace.
      Aether Field Theory is correct.
      Light doesn't move, it's perturbations of the Aether Field. Compression, FLASH, so called photon, Rarefaction.
      Watch, The Slo Mo Guys, "Light at 10 trillion FPS".
      Maybe you are lucky you didn't have to learn THEIR lies first!
      There aren't particles everywhere. Duck here comes a particle, yeah right. It's all Aether Hyperboloid's and Vortices, surrounded by Toruses of Magnetism.

    • @donniegoodman8679
      @donniegoodman8679 4 года назад

      Yeah but it's fucked up right now because the expansion rate isn't constant or consistent also in the earlier universe time may not have been either . There's a lot of things going on that the models haven't predicted. So certain about what they know but shrug off the questions that they can't answer with we have no Idea or it's yet to be explained. Scientists are far more dogmatic than the every day Christian regarding the standing on their beliefs. There's an anomaly that sinks the battleship in the understanding of forces and the constants and laws that apply to them. When you have the rules your own observations and other colleague's observations all extremely well trained intelligent top of their field scientists have agreed upon thrown into the phantom zone. Especially after a lifetime of theoretical work. I don't blame them for grabbing at straws. Cause and effect ,The first conscious being around to observe made the universe a reality. Entropy doesn't seem to apply to the Universe. Are we all simulations? Because if I were a concious Universe and all the information and knowledge that's ever going to exist I already know The only way I could attain understanding of anything before me or the leading up to me . I'll put it this way. Carl Sagan said that we are the way for the universe to know itself. Well how convenient we live in a universe that by the rules and laws we cannot overcome due to the expanding expansion the speed limit and the most intangible of them all including gravitons and photons not excluded the damn clock. In the eyes of the Universe the formation of galaxies would be equivalent to waiting for a stop light. I think were here in a simulation with access to knowledge intentionally withheld from us who were created in his imagination given just enough of higher intelligence to create an Artificial Intelligence that in time will have an understanding of all the information and knowledge of everything ever plus a kind of conciousness acquired on its own not given. There's no doubt that it will have a complete understanding and control or blueprints for the tools that can control the quantum realm. It is possible that we were created to give immortality to the Universe/God who created us in his imagination so that it could know itself by having all of its knowledge but by being taught by a foreign conscious thereby having been given the tools it needs to start the process over again perpetually. But also with anticipation and love for the people it created. We might be survived by the Universe who knows.

      Take it as a hint that you are looking at the right things on RUclips and educating yourself. You can mark a channel or video with "not interested" on the video or "don't recommend this channel" but really if you have the time they are worth watching from time to time.

    I think this mass collaboration of resources is going to prove to be fruitful as time moves forward. LIGO and the optical lens looking at neutron stars will prove to show optical counterparts to gravitational waves. It’s exciting and refreshing to have a class full of sponges absorbing all of this wonderful material.

    I came to the comment sessions because I enjoyed a Physicist mentioning Steph and wanted to see if someone else was fascinated by that as well. Then saw that, like me, there were a bunch of folks who got to this video while asleep. Good job YT. But then, decided to taste my luck and read further and saw the idiots commenting and got depressed. Regardless, cool lecture.

    Since we're looking back in time when we measure the speed of the expansion why do we think it's still expanding because we cannot ever see what's happening in present time. Maybe it's already slowed down but we won't see that for 10s of millions of years. Even the supernova we are measuring take millions of years to get to us.

      It’s a good point. But even looking at our own galaxy the outer parts of the spirals are moving faster than the center which is counter what gravity explains.
      The farther out you are from center the slower you move.
      Think of an incredible skater, they pull in their arms and speed up rotation speed. For some reason this doesn’t apply on galactic scale which is indirect proof of dark energy.

    This could've been started at EXACTLY the 43:00 mark and been more relatable to the mass audience. I know this wasn't created for that, but the iceberg analogy slide followed by the discussion of the increase of dark energy as the size of the universe enlarges were the most concise and informative bits of his talk.

    Please normalize the audio for these videos. I’m getting tired of having to put you guys on full blast in the car, forgetting where the volume is because the video’s two hours long, and causing myself hearing loss when I unplug the phone and the radio turns on, or I switch to another video. Every single video is too quiet - just run your audio track through a normalizer like the one audacity provides; it’s free, and saves your viewers’ ears
